Weigh- In Wednesday: Protein Bowl Recipe

After rejoining Weight Watchers, I knew I wanted to reinstate my Weigh- In Wednesdays posts. On the third Wednesday of every month I'll have a new post/party up for everyone to share workout tips, weight loss thoughts and ideas, and healthy recipes to fuel us on our journey to better health.

I feel like I've been doing decently well with focusing on organic, whole foods and while I can't say I've seen any huge changes in body mass/weight/muscle mass/etc. I do feel like I have more energy (which is a good thing since I spend SO MUCH more time in the kitchen making/prepping food). Overall I have shed 4 or 5 lbs that I've been keeping off so I'm happy with that. Now that spring is arriving we should be able to get out more for longer hikes and exercise and I can't wait!

I got into such a habit of just eating my fruit/yogurt/granola bowls each morning and I've been making a real concerted effort these past few months to try new things. One of my favorites is these easy protein bowls; they take just a couple of minutes to pull together and the added protein helps keep me sufficiently full until lunch.

my "usual" breakfast-- mixed berries or fruit with non-fat greek yogurt and 1/4 cup homemade granola

 My "new" breakfast ingredients:

1 cup yogurt
2 Tablespoon protein powder
1 Tablespoon chia seeds
1 cup mixed berries
Handful of raw pecans

I just mix the protein powder and chia seeds (sometimes I sprinkle on some hemp hearts or flaxseeds too) and add in the berries then top with the pecans.

  1. Great breakfast! I don't like nuts, sadly. I just can't.

    1. I like the crunch but you could easily swap out with a bit of granola.

  3. That's a smart way to add more protein! I don't care for protein shakes but I could add it to my yoghurt.

    1. I am not a protein shake person either so I was scouring the internet for ideas on what else to do with protein powder.

  4. Hey!! Always glad to see your WW posts. Just finished my Joanne-inspired fruit and yogurt breakfast. Trying to increase my protein, too. Going to fetch the chia seeds from the cupboard and put the next to the granola so I remember to add them to my protein bowl tomorrow. Thank you!!

  5. I put chia seeds on my yogurt and my oatmeal too, but I have never used protein powder. I used to make my own granola but have gotten a little lazy in that department and need to get back to it. My homemade has a lot less sugar (I use honey) than the store bought varieties which I need to watch. I have a sweet tooth so not real successful. I'm ready to get back out hiking more too. The pollen is still a little crazy here but we're on the downhill side of it and usually by early May it's not an issue. Happy Easter!

    1. Our pollen season is just gearing up and I expect that as soon as we start to see some sun it will feel like it's exploding everywhere. My homemade granola uses honey too (and sometimes some maple syrup too).

  6. That bowl of goodness looks delicious! I wonder if my collagen powder which is high in Protein would taste good in a bowl like this. I usually just put it in my tea. I think I will give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Thank you! Let me know about the collagen powder; I tried using it a few years ago but I don't think hot things and found that even though it says you can mix it in cold drinks it really was not good. But I'd love to find a way to add it back into my diet.

  8. That looks like a great and delicious breakfast. As I can't eat nuts, I might just add the pumpkin seeds for the crunch.
