March's Prime Purchases
We decided not to renew our Amazon Prime membership in December so I haven't been ordering nearly as much from Amazon. My intention had been to try and not buy anything from them at all this past month but yet again I felt like I had no other choice!
Alec needed some new pants and I had NO IDEA it was going to be such an ordeal. I should have... we always struggle with pants for him. Even his culinary uniforms do not come long enough and I've had to try and let down the hems as much as I can so they at least reach to his ankles/shoes.
He has 3 or 4 pairs of Dockers that he loves and I just planned to order him the next size up in the waist in the same style... only to discover that for whatever reason 36" inseams are no longer available... anywhere! Not on their site, not through any of the stores that carry their products... not even on Amazon!
After several google searches and going to specific sites to search for the size pants he needed I gave up and ended up on Amazon where we ordered 6 different pairs to try; 3 chino and 3 that were more of an athletic/sweatpant material.
These Dockers were out of the same material as his favorite pants and happened to have one last 36x36 in stock in the charcoal heather color.
We also happened to find one last pair of these Dockers in his size in black;
These Amazon essential chinos in black were a great fit.
He wanted to find some athletic pants that didn't have that more tapered leg/slim silhouette so we took a gamble on these tree:
XL tall with 36" inseam on these TTZ sweatpants
We've purchased these Idtswch pants before but I went up a size to the xl xtall/36" inseam and he liked them.
And finally he wanted to try these cargo pocket sweatpants again in the xltall//36" inseam; they're the same brand as the first pair but a different style.
I looked in 4 different stores near me for basic paper bathroom cups (I HATE the plastic ones!) and could not find any! Even to order them on Walmart I would have had to pay $7 for shipping (pick up in store was not an option). So I caved and ordered these that should last us quite a while.
I looked in all those same stores for my favorite deodorant but it seems like no one carries it locally. I've tried other natural deodorants and none of them have worked for me-- either they literally didn't work or I hated the texture/smell/style. SO I headed to Amazon to reorder my favorite Ursa Major (it's a little pricey but lasts me 6-7 months).
Then while I was on their site I gave into quite a few impulse buys; other than the two clothing items these were things on my list to get but I didn't HAVE to get them on Amazon. The sweaters were total impulse buys.
This one is so cute though and it was still really thick and warm so I can wear it now but still look spring-like even if our weather is quite windy and cold. (the purple I bought it in doesn't appear to be available anymore)
This one will have to wait for much warmer weather but I have a pair of really wide leg jeans my mother in law gave me that I hope/plan to wear it with.
I've bought freeze-dried fruits in raspberry before and used the last of them in my homemade granola bars and while I wanted to replenish my supply I also wanted to find some organic options and settled on these:
I've been looking for some grab and go snack ideas that aren't really processed and decided to give this variety pack of organic dried fruit a try. Mixed with some raw nuts it should make a good trail mix for spring/summer hikes.
In preparation for summer and our CSA (community supported agriculture) boxes I wanted an immersion blender for making homemade sauce. This one had great reviews.
And lastly I bought this toothpaste for myself-- devoid of sulfates, artificial flavors & colors, etc. it's a healthier alternative to all the brands I grew up with.

It's great that you were able to find Alec some good options for pants. That purple sweater is pretty! I hope you get spring weather soon :).
ReplyDeleteIt was a struggle but I'm so glad we finally found some pants that fit! I keep telling him he needs to stop growing.
DeleteI’ve never bought freeze dried fruit. I need to try those. Great pants options my boys would like. Thanks for linking up with us!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't ever bought freeze dried fruits until I had a recipe that called for it but I do love using them in my homemade granola bars.
DeleteThose cups are so cute and genius for the bathroom- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteGood for you for quitting Prime! But, I have always been pleased with Amazon Essentials. I can't believe you found a natural deod that works. I have not had good luck and have stunk more than I have ever stunk. lol. Maybe I didn't give it enough time.
ReplyDeleteI can't use the natural one on really hot or active days because it's not THAT great at working but I don't think I smell on a day to day basis.
DeleteAlec must be really tall! Glad you found some pants that work for him! I like that floral sweater too!
ReplyDeleteHe's between 6'2" and 6'3"; both of my oldest are but Alec definitely has the longer legs.
DeleteI always enjoy seeing what you have found on Amazon. I love the pink sleeveless sweater! I wish my Amazon orders came a little bit faster than they do. #MMBC
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI've been trying to limit my shopping on-line in general, but I found a really great pair of like new work shoes on Ebay and I could not resist. Sometimes you have to get the good deals when they present themselves. Love that pink striped sweater.
ReplyDeleteYep, sometimes you've just got to jump when you see a good deal.
DeleteYou got a lot of great buys! I like that cute sweater you bought and the pants all look great.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteMy brother when he was young had difficulty getting pants too. He was tall and thin. I remember I used to go in dept stores and look through racks looking for his size. I'd call his wife and we'd discuss what I'd found. I rely on Amazon for lots of stuff. I don't know how I could survive w//o Prime. #MMBC
ReplyDeleteYeah, tall sizes are not easy to find! Even with shirts he really could use an extra tall as most sleeves are quite short on him.
DeleteThat's so interesting about you canceling your Prime membership- I canceled mine in January, and I haven't been ordering much either. I don't miss it, honestly! If I need something in particular, like the hair products I use, my best friend orders it for me and I pay her back. I have enjoyed saving money in this way!
ReplyDeleteI find that when I do place an order we always qualify for the free shipping anyway!
DeleteI found out a few months ago my eldest has Amazon Prime so I have been getting her to order me things, it's very handy!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! It does sound like an ordeal buying pants for Alec. Those sweaters are cute, I especially like the one with the flowers.
That is handy! We've been using my son's Prime account to watch TV. Yep, finding clothes for Alec is quite an ordeal he's just so long and lanky that he's tough to fit.
DeleteClothes are something I've never purchased from Amazon although I do see a lot of people getting nice pieces from there. When I try to look I think I find the choice overwhelming and worry about the returns process.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you got some great buys this month.
It can definitely be hit or miss but I find their returns are really no hassle (though I always double check that it says "free returns."
DeleteHi Joanne! I love the idea of using freeze dried fruit in homemade granola bars! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They add a nice sweet touch.
DeleteI appreciate your ideas for men's slacks as my hubby needs them desperately after losing several pounds last year. The dried fruit options look great, too! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteI always enjoy your finds. That's great you were able to find some pant options for your son. My hubby is a 34" inseam and it can be hard for him too. That sweater you got is so cute! Those bathroom cups are adorable and should last you a long time!!
ReplyDeleteYeah my oldest has a 34" inseam and those are hard to find too (but not nearly as hard as 36!).
