Talking About it Tuesday #55

I hope your week is off to a great start! We're enjoying a very slight warm up of temps this week; which is such a relief after our below freezing temps last week. We're adjusting to a new schedule here as Evan starts back to the community college today for a class this spring, which means we're only homeschooling 3 days a week now. We tried to hit his books hard in anticipation of this and I think this semester is just going to fly by. 

We had lots of great blogs linked up last week and, as always, I had a hard time picking just a few to feature. Do you find yourself reading the same topics week after week or do you like to mix it up? I find I like a little bit of everything; some yummy recipes, some fashion inspiration, some crafting ideas, etc. How about you? What's your favorite?

    Thanks for the party. I just click on the link that interests me the most. I like recipes, but I know what I like to eat, so I only click on a recipe that I know I would probably enjoy. I also like fashion and travel.

    Thanks so much for stopping by and for your condolences on the passing of my friend Anne Marie...I was the final gut punch that 2024 had to offer as she was diagnosed with uterine cancer shortly after my husband passed away...

    I am so happy our weather is warming up some. I like being stuck inside sometimes because it is relaxing but when I can't leave because of the cold I go stir crazy!

    Also, I do hop around to different blog posts in different "genres" for lack of a better word. I am not really into fashion but I still visit the blogs. I like to read about different things even if it isn't "my thing" so to speak.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Big Island of Hawaii-- Day(s) 10, 11, & 12

Our final "real" day of vacation we wanted to check out a few waterfalls on the other side of the island near Hilo. I think we were all dreading that 2+ hour drive. But I am a sucker for a beautiful waterfall! Our first stop was rainbow falls: If you time it just right the cave behind the waterfall will fill with a rainbow too but we were a bit early; which actually turned out to be a good thing since the skies clouded up right as we were leaving! From there we headed to the boiling pots just 1.5 miles up the road; even knowing that the waters weren't high enough to look like they were boiling we thought it might be worth a stop anyway. It seemed like both islands we visited were very dry compared to what they usually are.  From there we went to Akaka Falls. I honestly don't think this "park" was worth the $30+ it cost us since it was a paved loop (with lots of stairs) that took about 30 minutes to complete. What's Up Wednesday in January 2025 (With a Bit of December 2024 too)

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday. Since I missed December's What's Up Wednesday I plan to combine both months into this one post... so it might be a tad long! Sorry but not really sorry.  What We're Eating: Sunday:   Shrimp carbonara (the kind with no diary or cheese but made with tempered eggs) with salad. Monday: BLT sandwiches with chips and salad (I'll end up eating just the salad). Tuesday:  Pumpkin mac and cheese with broccoli Wednesday:  Burgers and hot dogs with tater tots and salad (I'll have a garden burger and some butternut squash fries). Thursday: Crock pot lasagna soup with garlic bread Friday:  Pork chops with Hasselback potatoes, and green beans.  Saturday: Pineapple teriyaki chicken  (we'll cook them up in the air fryer since if it is too cold to grill) with rice, corn and salad. Old Fort Niagara

After we had stopped by our rental house and changed into dry clothes after our wet morning at the falls we headed out to Old Fort Niagara.   We stopped a local restaurant: The Youngstown Galley and had an amazing lunch!  Youngstown was so cute and I wished we had had more time to explore it but we knew the fort was only open until 5!  We arrived at the fort around 3 and we were just in time for a short video presentation about the history of the fort.  After the movie there was a volunteer guide that offered to lead us around the fort and tell us more about it; we were thrilled!   We learned that this flag was part of the original flag that hung at the fort.  It has been captured, brought to Europe and displayed in the family home of the leader of the battle.  Passed down from generation to generation it was nearly lost and destroyed in a fire!  It was eventually returned to the fort and those pieces that look ...
