Share Our Lives-- Where I Shop

It's the second Monday of the month which means it's time for the Share Our lives link up.

This month for the Share Our Lives link up we're sharing where we like to shop.

I struggled a bit with this prompt since it's so open ended. I thought I'd list my "top 3" stores in various categories.

inside our local Market Basket

Groceries:
  1. Market Basket
  2. Price Chopper
  3. Stop and Shop
For Gifts:
  1. Amazon (free shipping to family that lives far away is fabulous!)
  2. Local independent stores/crafters
  3. The mall--typically the end stores like Macy's, JC Penney, etc.
For the Home/household goods:
  1. Target
  2. Amazon
  3. JCPenney
The mall I went shopping in this July for my birthday

For Clothing (for me!):
  1. Those same end stores at the mall
  2. Stitch Fix
  3. Amazon
Clothing for my guys:
  1. Carhartt (for my husband and oldest son)
  2. Old Navy (for Evan)
  3. Kohl's/Amazon (for Alec)
For fun:
  1. Stampin' Up!
  2. Michael's craft stores
  3. Hobby Lobby
I hope you'll join us next month when we look at Our Favorite Smells

  1. I went to a mall back in February in Charlotte to actually walk with a friend and it was so nice to see one still vibrant. I feel like that is a rare thing these days. These are good lists and I like those stores, although we have different grocery stores here.

    1. Yeah that mall I shared a photo of was actually really empty and struggling like most of the malls up here...

  2. Great list! I really like Macy's and another department store we have called Von Maur. We don't have a Belk, but I discovered online they have great prices. I think it's a southern store.

    1. Yeah my grandmother used to talk about Belk and another one (that I want to say was called Bealls?) that she just LOVED to shop at every winter when she went to Florida. We don't have those up here either. But I am now going to add Von Maur & Belk to my online shopping lists.

  3. Your grocery store names are all unfamiliar to me. Does your area/state have Kroger stores? Just curious.

    1. Nope, no Kroger anywhere in New England.. Looks like they don't go any further north than Ohio/Virginia.

    2. Kroger owns a ton of other supermarkets too, although none may be in New England.

    3. I just went right to their website and did a map/search of where there stores are and I have no idea if that includes all the other chains they own or not...

  4. I love how you have to shop at three diff places for your four men- so cute! Yes MB all the way here too :)

    1. Poor Alec is very limited in where he can shop because not many stores carry tall/long sizes and both my husband and Ian are so rough on their clothes they need something rugged!

  5. I used to shop at Stop N' Shop when I lived in NJ. You don't see them here. I love Hobby Lobby and we do have one of those in our town which is fun to browse, and of course buy : ) They have such great seasonal stuff. Happy Monday!

    1. Stop & Shop is my last resort because they are pricing themselves right out of business (literally they've already shut down 32 stores this year). I love Hobby Lobby too but our closest one is nearly an hour away so I don't get there very often-- maybe once a year if I'm lucky!

  6. Hi Jo - we don't have Michael's and Hobby Lobby here in Australia - I hear them mentioned by other bloggers and I bet they'd be a fun place to browse (even for those of us who aren't big crafters!)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, I think even non-crafters like to browse them too since they do have seasonal decor items.

  7. Old Navy seems to be the best store for men's clothes as far as my boys go!

    1. Evan is the only one that likes Old Navy but I think for the past year he's pretty much exclusively bought all this clothes through them.

  8. I can't tell you the last time I went into the mall for a store. Our JCpenny's and Kohls are no longer connected the the mall so there is no need to go in, also there is no more Disney store.

    1. It's definitely not my local mall; since the mall that is only 30 or so minutes away basically just has a Macy's and a Men's Warehouse now but each year for my birthday my mom and I like to take off for the day and we'll check out different malls and outlets.

  9. Thank you for hosting! We still go to the mall at times. We have outlets near us that are pretty good. Target, Home Goods, TJ Maxx are my weekly spots to check out.

    1. You're welcome! I have never been in a Home Goods...

  10. I wish I had some of the stores you go to in my life! My amazon orders can take a couple of months :(

    ReplyDelete

    1. It is dangerously convenient that most Amazon orders take no more than a week. I'm trying to wean myself away from them but it's hard since we don't have all that many stores near us.

  11. This was a hard prompt. I like the way you broke it down by category.

  12. Thanks for hosting and love the topic this month. My sister-in-law LOVES shopping at the Market Basket, we don't have one near me.

    1. You're welcome! Yeah Market Basket is definitely just a south eastern New England thing but their prices can not be beat and they don't adhere to any of the gimmick-y things like store cards.

  13. Your grocery store looks so nice! It's fun to learn where people shop.

  14. We shop at a lot of the same stores!

    1. I noticed a lot of similarities between all the lists linked up-- the biggest differences were with local grocery stores.

  15. I shop at the Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores, you can kill two birds with one stone by shopping there. You get really cheap stuff, and avoid contributing to predatory dishonest big corporations that are overcharging, using slave labor overseas, and turning folks into debt slaves with their high interest credit cards.

  16. Hi Joanne, It's interesting to me to find out where you like to shop. I'm not from the clothing or houswares shoppers, but do love to shop for food. My choices in Tucson are many, but at the top of my food shopping listare Fa5mer's Markets, Sprouts, Natural Grocers, and trailing Target and Whole Foods. Warm regards, Nancy Andres @ Color 3 Health

    1. Those sound wonderful and so fresh! Our farmer's markets are only seasonal up here (of course!) but I do love to shop fresh when I can.

  17. Carhartt is so popular now. I don't think I mentioned, but there was a Carhartt store in Spain!

  18. Market Basket in Somerville is my friend and relatives' favorite grocery store. Yeah Stop and Shop is not doing too well. We like Trader Joe's and a lot of little Asian stores. There's an HMart grocery store near Central Square. In Florida, I like Bealls and Publix. And the usuals - Home Goods, TJMaxx and Costco and Walmart.

    1. I've never been in an H Mart but I do know it from the book Crying in H Mart.

  19. This was interesting to read. I've not heard of any of those grocery stores. The Macy's stores around here are not good...the aisles are crowded, and there's just a general air of disarray. The other mall I go to is more high end and is becoming truly upscale with the addition of Louis Vuitton and Tiffanys as well as Gucci. Needless to say, I don't go in those stores, but I'm wondering about the stores I do go to...will they be able to pay the rent if these are the kinds of stores this mall is wanting. Time will tell, I suppose. I miss the old malls.

    1. We have one Macy's near us that is a disaster zone and I won't shop there but a few of the others are really nice so it definitely can be hit or miss.

  20. How fun how you categorized them all! I have about four places I go to regularly!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for including your favorite places to shop for the guys in your life. I always struggle with that one. As I was reading your post, I realized that I haven't been in a shopping mall for ages. I do so much of my shopping online or through pick up services now. I may have to visit during the holiday season!

    1. I do a lot of online shopping nowadays too but once or twice a year my mom and I or my husband and I will take off for a day of shopping at "real" stores.

  22. I have not heard of a lot of the shops that you have mentioned but I guess it would be the same for you when it comes to shops from the UK.
I have heard of Target and would love to shop in there and of course Macy's & JC Penney from movies and TV shows I've watched. You can't beat Amazon though!

  23. Hobby Lobby is my favorite for crafts and holiday decor! They have such great stuff!

I haven't even heard of those grocery stores. It's so interesting how they are different depending on where you live.

  25. That Market Basket is beautiful. We are really limited in grocery store options. Walmart, and Walmart and Walmart. I wish we could get a Kroger, an HEB, a Trader Joe's.

    1. I've never been to a Kroger or an HEB but I am so glad our local Walmart is not our only choice; they have an awful selection of fresh foods.

  26. This was neat! You shop at different grocery stores than me, but part of it might be what you have up there. Was curious where you shopped for the guys.

    1. Yeah, Market Basket stores only have 90 across New Hampshire, Mass, Maine & Rhode Island, Stop & Shop stores are only in New England, New York and New Jersey, and Price Chopper is in some New England states plus New York and Pennsylvania. But those are really my only 3 grocery store options other than Walmart... which I never ever shop at for some reason (unless we're on vacation and it's all I can find).

  27. I love seeing familiar and unfamiliar names of stores across the country. The grocery stores are always so different.
