Sentence a Day in October

We had a wonderful October with lots of fabulous (and sometimes downright HOT), sunny weather. We had some really cold fall feeling days too so it was often a challenge to know how to dress but those warm days made it all worth it. We did lots of hiking and I did lots of crafting. We toured another college-- if anyone is interested I do have photos/notes/thoughts about each college but I'm not sure if anyone really cares what we've thought or seen so I haven't bothered to share much about it on the blog! So far we've liked all the ones we've looked at and have 2 more planned for November.

1. I made some homemade pie crust, did some laundry, and worked on schooling with Evan before heading out in the afternoon to pick up his friend and go hiking at Purgatory Chasm. 13,602 steps.

2. Gym with my mom, school with Evan, and then all 3 of us (my mom, Evan, and I) went to lunch at Panera bread. I spent my afternoon blogging and card making. 8,429 steps.

3. Evan and I headed out hiking with our hiking group- it was so beautiful we kept adding onto our hike. We ended up hiking nearly 2 hours!  13,690 steps.

The river was nearly dried up; but I loved the rainbow effect of the sun shining off the little trickle of water

4. I was up and showered early to help my parents pack up their car and see them off; they hit the road by 7am. My husband and I ended the day with a date night. 8,373 steps (though I did take it off for date night)

I made some apple pies

5. Parents and homecoming weekend at Alec's school; though we only opted to attend Saturday since Sunday's activities didn't interest us. 12,404 steps

the culinary building

bread art on display

cake art on display

visiting the "bees" -- they're hoping to produce their own honey

and the gardens

and the chickens

Free chocolate tasting; and look at those chocolate/sugar sculptures along the back wall!

cake decorating contest

Much harder with just one piping bag and 3 colors of frosting!

6. I spent the day washing all the sheets & laundry, working on the blog, planning meals/writing up shopping list, etc. and ended my day with a RZR ride with my husband. 8,426 steps

7. Gym (without my mom 😒), grocery shopping, school with Evan, then ran errands in the rain. The sun came out in the late afternoon so I went for a walk to get the mail. 11,815 steps.

8. Tuesday I worked on some school with Evan and then we went for a walk on the bike trails. 10,324 steps

finally worked a bit more on my painting

9. After an awful night sleep (I have a massive sore throat though no other "symptoms") I decided to enjoy a slow morning and skip the gym. I did school with Evan and then we went for a short hike. 10,811 steps.

10. Evan and I had an amazing hike with our hiking group; we had never hiked at Mansfield Hollow. I nearly forgot all about picking up our last CSA box but luckily I remembered just in time! 16,139 steps.
I ended up wearing a sweatshirt over this for much of our hike!

started my Christmas cards; I can't wait to make up some fun surfin' Santa cards

11. I headed out around 10 to pick up Alec for the long weekend and then spent the day at home catching up with him & watching Will & Grace together. 5,957 steps

12. We packed away all the patio/deck furniture for winter and stacked wood. 6,770 steps

13. A rainy day but it started with a beautiful sunrise and a trip to the grocery store. I spent my afternoon making cards and finishing up a book. 5,893 steps

I started my Christmas cards!

14. Gym, then helped Evan with some schoolwork and folded lots and lots of laundry before heading out to drop Alec back off at college. We stopped off at Cava for lunch on the way; I was so disappointed in my meal (the boys were too sine I had been talking it up ever since I went to one in Nashville this spring). 11,239 steps.

rainy walk in the woods in the morning

I went out for a second little walk in the afternoon when the sun came out

15. I started working on some cards "just for fun" early in the morning then helped Evan with school, finished up my painting, and worked on some more "for fun" cards and also my Christmas cards before cleaning the downstairs and taking a short walk around the neighborhood. 8,293 steps

16. Went to the gym, worked on school with Evan, ran a few errands (gas, stop & shop, the apple orchard) then enjoyed a lazy afternoon watching TV and working on the blog. 10,123 steps.

17. We had a lovely hike with our hiking group, before heading out I finished up my Christmas cards, worked on my puzzle, and started my latest painting. 12,152 steps.

Apple with dip made from nonfat Greek yogurt and peanut butter mixed together

18. Gym, then grocery shopping, then a quick walk with Evan before heading out around dinner time to go pick up Alec from school for the weekend. 11,783 steps

19. I spent my morning working on the blog, reading my book, doing laundry, and working on my latest puzzle. We all went out for ice cream in the afternoon; it was a warm day with temps in the 70's! 6,375 steps.

black raspberry chocolate chip with hot fudge

20. Evan and I went to check out another college; this time we toured Eastern Ct. State University.  10,550 steps

21. Gym, school with Evan, housework and then a nice long hour hike after lunch. 12,849 steps.

22. I worked on my newest painting and helped Evan with school then did a bit of house cleaning before we were both ready to head out for a hike. 13, 969 steps.

It was so hot that I changed into short sleeves and wide leg pants after hiking- I even turned on the air conditioning for a few hours in the afternoon.

23. Gym then I just spent a quiet day around the house. 10,169 steps.

24. School with Evan and then we went for a short hike and after lunch I ran a few errands. 11,015 steps.

25. I skipped the gym since I had an early morning hair appointment for a perm then headed from the salon to go pick up Alec at college making it back home just about lunchtime. 5,526 steps.

26. Spent my morning working on scrapbooking pages then went grocery shopping after lunch. 4,367 steps

27. I finished up my scrapbook pages, read my book, painted my nails, and basically waited around all day for Alec to get home from work so we could bring him back to school. It was a late night since he never made it home until after 6:30 (he went to get his hair cut & colored after work). 3,923 steps.

28. Gym, school with Evan, then Evan and I went for a nice long hike/walk in the woods before I spent my afternoon cooking (making a quiche, a salad, and a chicken pot pie). 15,263 steps.

29. I did some yoga and Pilates workouts (plural!) in the morning, school with Evan, and then we went for a short hike before lunch. I spent my afternoon cleaning and folding laundry. 9,649 steps.

There were tons of these adorable squirrels all along the trail decorated differently but we couldn't figure out what they were for!

30. Gym in the morning then school with Evan, ran some errands (bank and to get gas), then Evan and I went for another hour long hike. 15,068 steps.

31. Gym, tiny bit of school with Evan, then went hiking after lunch; it was near 80! 13,237 steps.

So sad that nearly all the trees are bare already..

nearly finished my second painting this month!

  22. Breathtaking scenery on the hike early in the month. That 5th photo with the horizontal band of yellow against the blue sky!! Just wow!! I don't know of any other blogger who has scenery as beautiful as yours.
I have to read a little then scroll to the bottom and comment on something before I forget, then scroll back up and read some more. It is fun to see the weather getting chillier through your outfits. Love the kimono look - your hair looks so feminine done up like that. And amazed at all the kids' skills at culinary school.
Enjoyed seeing your butterfly come to life on your painting. And the landscape painting is very nice. What kind of paint are you using? I keep saying I want to do a watercolor of my grandbabies but it hasn't happened. Been doing a lot of scrapbooking lately. If I was smart like you, I would be thinking about Christmas cards.

  28. I'm always a week late commenting...the days just speed by and then the next Friday is upon me and I'm like "shoot, I didn't go comment"..ugh. Fall is beautiful in your area. WOW. I get how it can be hard to know how to dress...and add mild hot flashes, or just being a person who's warm all the time. Those vegetables look wonderful. I have a few squash I need to make. WOW..that bread art is amazing...so are all the other baked goods. Love the fog on the lake too. As always, I love your outfits and all the beautiful photos. The foxes puzzle looks neat. I'm working on a farm one right now. Oh my...the picture with the little waterfall, fall leaves and house or church in background is neat. That would make a fun puzzle.

    1. They really do fly by! My hot flashes seem to only hit during the night (so far), thankfully. Every time we've visited Alec's school they have other things on display and I'm always so amazed at the creativity. I have no idea what that white building is behind the waterfall; it is right where we park to hike but it looks empty and has no signs or anything.. I'm guessing it's an old abandoned house but I really don't know.

  29. I love the idea of a sentence a day. Purgatory Chasm sounds ominous, but so beautiful. Gorgeous photos. The displays at Alec's school look so amazing, and your cards and paintings are gorgeous.
