What's Up Wednesday October 2024

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday. Another month is wrapping up and once again I am so surprised it's already over.

What We're Eating:

Sunday: steak, baked potato, and green beans with salad

Monday: Chicken pot pie with flaky crust (mostly because I need photos for the blog post since all my all photos were deleted from the blog!)

Tuesday: Egg roll in a bowl (I use this recipe from Holly) with rice (riced cauliflower for me)

Wednesday: Homemade chicken fingers with fries (butternut squash fries for me) with corn on the cob and salad.

Thursday: Homemade lasagna with salad and freshly baked garlic bread. (Though I'm not sure if I'll make it in a loaf pan or do a whole 13x9 for leftovers)

Friday: We're heading to Maine for the night with Evan to check out another college so Ian will be on his own and Alec is staying at college this weekend. The 3 of us will pick something up on the way.

Saturday: I'm not sure what time we'll be home from Maine or how hungry we'll be (most of these colleges put out quite a spread for their open houses!) so I have no idea what we'll do for dinner.

What I'm Reminiscing About: I am not a Halloween or costume or dress up fan but I do have lots of fond memories of taking the boys trick or treating at our local zoos during their zoo boo days. Fall is always our favorite time to visit the zoos and a few years both my sisters went with their kids too!

What I'm Loving:  Our weather has been fabulous this month and I am loving it.

What We've Been Up To: Lots of hiking, we went to parents' weekend at Alec's college, and I have been crafting up a storm.

Hiking purgatory chasm with friends

We hiked Pachaug state forest too

I made apple pies for the season

Alec showed us the chicken coop. apiary, gardens, and more

We had fun with a cake decorating challenge-- and left the cake at college for him and his friends to enjoy

I started a new puzzle

another fabulous hike

I've been playing around with my cardmaking supplies

I finished my latest painting (set of paintings)

Another fabulous hike

What I'm Dreading: Nothing!

What I'm Working On: I just finished making all my Christmas Cards! I'm currently working on putting together our Thanksgiving menu; since it's just us this year I'm trying to pair our menu way down to just the essential favorites.

What I'm Excited About: My parents found a house within their first week and half of living in North Carolina and from the pictures it looks fabulous. I can't wait to see it in person... hopefully sometimes in 2025.

What I'm Watching/Reading: Fire Country (Paramount+), Being Erica (Hulu), Great British Baking Show (Netflix),  A Gentleman in Moscow (Paramount+), Doctor Odyssey (Hulu), the latest seasons of both 911 and Lonestar 911 (Hulu), Dexter New Blood (Paramount+), Gifted (Prime)-- I Liked this movie a lot! 2017 edition of Will & Grace (Hulu), Outer Banks latest season (Netflix), Killer Heat (Prime), Six Feet Under (Netflix).

The full recap of what I've read/listened to this month will be up on the blog next Thursday. I hope you'll join us for our Share Your Shelf link up!

What I'm Listening to: I'm still mostly listening to the Clancy World Tour setlist on Spotify!

What I'm Wearing: All the long sleeves and pants and sweaters and warm clothes.

What I'm Doing This Weekend: We're heading to Maine to check out another possible college for Evan.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month: Thanksgiving!

What Else is New: I got a perm; and I am loving having curly hair once again (even if the actual perm gave me an itchy rash on my neck and face for a few days!).

  1. I hope the college visit goes well! Glad your weather has been great- so has ours. While I don´t hike too much, I do enjoy walks into town and around our neighborhood. That is great that your mom found a place already in NC. Have a great day!

  5. I'm so jealous of all your hiking! Love the outfits - I want to wear fall clothes but we're still having highs in the 80s and it's so gross out. I haven't caught up on Fire Country this season, and I want to watch Doctor Odyssey but haven't yet!

    1. Aw, thank you! We had a week or so with highs in the 80's and it's supposed to be 79 tomorrow but I don't mind these bursts of warm weather since it's been chilly most of the time.

    1. They really do; mine all tell me they'll never have kids but my mom and I have cautioned them that we both said the same thing and she ended up with 4 to my 3 so you really never know.

  14. Hi Joanne what a full week with baking and the chicken pie looks delicious. The scenery where you live is stunning and so uplifting. The boys look great in their costumes and I do love a poncho when the weather starts to cool. Thanks so much for linking up and sharing with us at #WWWhimsy. Have a lovely week. Sue L. #TeamWWWhimsy

  20. Since my doc told me I am just in the range of pre diabetic, I am going to work on low sugar, low carb meals for myself and actually eat breakfast. Hoping that my numbers will be different by this time next year. I'm hoping for a hike on Sunday afternoon.

    1. Oh I wish! It's getting to be coat and scarf season here and I just hate that so much; the long sleeves and pants I'm fine with but I really hate bulky coat season.
