Splurging with Ageless Style

It's the third Thursday of the month and time for another ageless style challenge.  This month Marsha suggested we focus on an item we've splurged on. I'm not usually one to splurge on clothing but I have a few pieces here and there. 


One recent splurge item was this dress from Soma. I don't think I paid full price for it; but I know it was more than the $59 it's on sale for now at the end of the season (gosh I really wish I had waited because I've only worn it this one day for photos!). 

It's a very comfortable dress with a built in bra, pockets, and a soft jersey material but what really caught my eye was the pattern. I do need to make a minor adjustment though; the straps need to be shortened quite a bit.

    I love that pattern of the dress! Thanks for sharing today...I joined in with this one when I saw the focus of things we've splurged on. I don't do that a lot, but every once in a while I will pay a lot more for one item of clothing than I usually would. It's nice to do that on occasion!

    That dress is pretty! Somewhat ironically, I have a dress that is very similar in style to the one you featured that was a splurge for me last summer. I think it was from J Crew or some place that I don´t normally shop at. It´s just a little bit different and I think it was worth the splurge. I like the red in your dress. Very pretty!

      I love them! I have 3 already plus another one of their jumpsuits... those I've worn so much and I'm hopeful I'll start wearing this one more often too.

    The dress is beautiful. Don't you hate it when you buy something and later find it's on sale? But then again, I've had other regrets when I didn't buy something and then it was no longer available.

    The pattern is really pretty: go get the dress altered so you will actually wear it! That is my problem sometimes when buying something that is not quite right. Am I actually going to get it altered to fit right.

      The problem is I do my own alterations and getting myself to actually drag out my sewing machine usually means I need a pile of clothes waiting to make it worth while... unless it's for the boys! LOL

    Wow, it is stunning on you Joanne. That's the thing about finding it on sale later, but if you had waited, it might not be available in your size. It's a risk, right??

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my boys were youn

Dorm Move In & Alec's Dorm Photos

 Alec and I loaded up the car Wednesday morning. I was literally unable to sleep the night before thinking there was no way we were going to fit all his stuff ( see yesterday's post! ) into my car. But first try we got it all to fit! There wasn't really any room to spare but that's okay, we all fit and so did everything he wanted to bring with him.  Since Alec is in the honors program he got to move in 2 days before the rest of the school (on Thursday).. which meant we didn't hear a whole lot from the school on what to expect for move in day. We were told to be there anywhere between 10 am and 7 pm so we decided to shoot for the 10 am and give ourselves plenty of time. His roommate wouldn't be moving in until Saturday and Alec will have a full day of activities and meetings today (on Friday).  We did label everything with Alec's name, dorm name, and room # just in case and printed out a parking pass (again, just in case)-- none of which we needed to do but were
