Highlights and Happenings in July; One Sentence a Day

We had a pretty rainy, muggy, hot July but it was a lot of fun too. We crossed a lot of things off our to do list which felt great.

1. My mom and I went to the gym then the boys and I loaded up the car and headed to Little Compton Rhode Island to spend some time with our friends eating, playing games, and walking along the beach.

2. The boys and I woke up early, checked out of our rental, and headed back over to our friend's cottage around 7 and by 9 am I was taking all 4 boys out to breakfast, then I read on the deck for a bit while they played games and then we spent our afternoon on the beach before it was time for the boys and I to head home.

3. I got caught up on household tasks like watering plants, prepping food, paying bills, doing the laundry, etc. and got our fridge/freezer all cleaned out in time for the delivery of our new one!

I LOVE my beautiful new fridge!

I changed in the late afternoon when the wind picked up knowing we were also headed to the grocery store and it would be cool inside.

4. Happy 4th of July! We had a lazy day with no plans so I spent most of my day reading and working on the blog. Alec had a job cooking at a cookout and I had to pick up our CSA farm box but in the afternoon I was sitting outside as the flotilla parade went by (before it started pouring in the middle of it).

5. We woke to more rain and no real plans other than prepping food for the party tomorrow so I spent a quiet day crafting, reading, blogging, and watching TV.

6. Saturday morning we woke to get ready for my husband's family huge annual 4th of July cookout to find it pouring, thundering, and lightning-- from experience we knew the party would still go on but thankfully the rain stopped right around noon and held off the rest of the day.

7. Alec headed off to work and Ian and Evan headed off shopping for my birthday gift; they gave me part of my gift early so I could bring my chair with us to the cottage for another afternoon of lake fun.

8. My mom and I went to the gym then headed out for my annual birthday shopping/lunch trip. We went to Buckland Hills mall and lunch at Artisanal Burger Company.

9. I was up early and got the laundry done, dishes put away and made a lasagna before we headed out at 8:30 in the morning for Alec to have all his wisdom teeth removed. I spent the rest of the day taking care of him.

10. I woke up and decided to skip the gym so I could see how Alec was feeling when he woke up; he had a great day and only took one dose of pain meds choosing to just use Motrin the rest of the day. Evan and I did do groceries but then I just hung out at home all day.

I finished my library's color challenge-- Well, I started the final book for it anyway!

11. Another day spent mostly at home taking care of Alec-- he was doing great but still was a bit sore and tired. We got some paperwork done for college and I went to pick up my CSA in the afternoon.

I beat Alec, Ian, and my mother in law at rummy

12. Gym with my mom, blueberry picking with the boys (it rained on the way there but stopped by the time we parked at the orchard), food prep, cleaning the house... it was a busy day!

13. It poured all morning and our power kept blinking on and off-- Alec went back to work and I worked on the blog and some reading while waiting around for him to come home hoping he wasn't overdoing it. My husband and I headed out on a date night to try a new (to us!) restaurant called Alicante-- it was delicious.

14. A hot, lazy day lying around the house and the lake reading and visiting with some family.

15. Gym, grocery shopping, Amazon dorm shopping with Alec and then Alec, Evan, and I headed to the botanical gardens.

16. Prime day shopping, lots of cooking and baking, bill paying. cleaning house, etc.

Blueberry Boy Bait

I made blueberry jam following my 3- ingredient jam recipe

17. Gym in the morning then Alec and I headed out to Target, the bank, Lowe's, a couple of greenhouses (he wanted 2 specific plants), etc. to finish up his dorm room shopping.

18. Another long morning spent online doing some research for college, getting Alec signed up for his own credit card, looking into the Amazon student prime account, etc. Then I went to pick up our CSA box in the afternoon.

19. I spent my morning making Kabobs for dinner and my afternoon driving Evan back and forth to his friend's house (they live over 30 minutes away so that was a good 2 hours of my day). I did find time to do my nails though.

20. We had a birthday/ graduation party for one of our homeschooling friends but it ended rather suddenly when the skies opened up and began downpouring.

we all got a kick out of the "Happy Bitrhday" sign when we finally noticed 1/2 way through the party that it was spelled wrong!

21. We got a late start to our day but my husband and I headed to the grocery store and then spent a lazy afternoon around the house reading, mowing the lawn, etc. He talked us all into getting ice cream after dinner.

22. Gym with my mom, ordered Alec's culinary uniforms/picked out actual dorm room/ ordered MORE stuff/ etc.

23. I worked out at home then headed out for a haircut (just a trim) and spend most of my afternoon reading and napping.

24. Gym with my mom, cooked up a dish for dinner and then worked on cleaning the whole upstairs before heading out for lunch with Alec at Pub 99 and to (hopefully!) finish up shopping for his dorm.

25. I cleaned the whole downstairs and started washing bedding in the boys' rooms before heading out to pick up our CSA box (in the pouring rain!) and stopping at the library to get Alec some books on houseplants and succulents.

26. Gym with my mom, washed the boys' bedding, and spent a good portion of my day outside weeding all the gardens and the walk and patio too.

I showered and changed around 3:30 after I finished in the garden

27. Ian, Evan, and I headed to my mother's house to do odd jobs for the day getting their house ready to sell.

What I wore; but I took off my blue blouse for painting staying in just my shorts and white tank top

Ian pressure washed their whole exterior for them!

My brother and his whole family showed up too.

I was on door painting duty with Evan's help

28. I started my day grocery shopping with my husband and then we had to rework our entire menu for the week to make sure to use up all the fresh veggies we've been getting (my mother in law dropped off lots of eggs and tomatoes, my father in law dropped off 12 ears of corn plus we had veggies from our CSA box on Thursday). I made tomato sauce and marinated our chicken in a new basil marinade.

29. We woke to no power around 3:30 and some major downpours luckily the power was back on by 5:30ish so I was still able to get to the gym with my mom and then headed back to her house to finish painting doors-- it took me nearly 4 hours to paint the 3 doors plus trim and various touch ups. I was wiped out by dinner!

a yummy afternoon snack; homemade pita chips with hummus and carrots

30. Took the younger boys shopping for clothes and shoes then I spent my afternoon scrapbooking!

31. Gym with my mom then I settled down to work on the computer and some more scrapbooking while it rained.

    1. I thought that colorful challenge was going to be so easy (and I guess it would have if I had settled for picking colorful book covers but I really wanted the color name somewhere in there so that made it more challenging).

  5. I concur with Lindsay (she lives a couple hours south of me) that it rains most days in July! August is looking better in that area except it is starting with really high humidity! I am hoping I will move more in August and get back to some healthy habits. July was a doozy in that area!

  11. I love your summer outfits and your nails are gorgeous. Your fridge looks beautiful with all the space and the lights. That would be my husband's dream fridge with the water dispenser. For now, he'll have to stick to filling water bottles and putting them in the fridge himself. LOL

  12. Our July was rainy too, but cool. Thankfully we got a heat wave recently to help our tomato and pepper plants along. I love your blue hydrangeas, but what happened to your lamppost? Did one of the boys back into it? I would love to know your blueberry jam recipe.

    1. That is not my lamppost; that's at a house along the shoreline where we were visiting so I'm really not sure what happened to it. To make my blueberry jam I followed this recipe & just subbed out the blueberries for the strawberries: https://www.myslicesoflife.com/2024/07/easiest-3-ingredient-homemade.html

  21. I enjoyed your update...what a beautiful place to visit. Love your new fridge too...I was so excited when we finished our addition and got new appliances. My blueberries are just about done...I think I can still get another gallon size bag...I've collected 12 gallon size bags this season...

  22. So much goodness here. First, I always love your nails. I think you use wraps quite often. I keep buying them and then am too scared to try them. DUMB. And I love your blush outfit with the little striped blush top and solid pants. You look beautiful in that color. We really, really need to paint around here but trying to get certain people on board has been hard.

All your eats look scrumptious, too. Wish I could get PC to eat salmon. And peas.

The boys have grown and changed so much. You look just as young and pretty as ever. How does that happen?
