What's Up Wednesday in July (2024)

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday. It has been such a quiet month and such a great one!

What We're Eating:

Monday: Egg salad BLT sandwiches with fries (butternut squash fries for me) and salad

Tuesday: Ham steak with macaroni & cheese and broccoli (just a large salad for me)

Wednesday: Baked fish with zucchini and roasted potatoes (hot dogs for the two that don't eat fish)

Thursday: Citrus yogurt marinated chicken with squash casserole and corn on the cob

Friday: Weight Watchers American Chop Suey with salad

Saturday: Steak, grilled cheesy potatoes (plain grilled for me), with green and yellow beans.

Sunday: My husband and Ian are heading out fishing so the rest of us will just fend for ourselves or get take out.

What I'm Reminiscing About: How is it nearly time to send this one off to college?!

What I'm Loving:  Our delicious CSA boxes-- I am loving having all these fresh vegetables to use each week and so far we haven't thrown away much of anything (just one batch of garlic scape pesto that we didn't like after making the recipe and one bundle of kale).

What We've Been Up To: The younger two boys and I started our month at the beach for a little overnight trip with friends. We celebrated a very rainy 4th of July weekend with my husband's family followed by my 47th birthday. Then poor Alec had all his wisdom teeth out and we celebrated yet another friend's birthday/graduation. The younger boys and I also went to the botanical gardens; it was a hot day but oh so pretty!

What I'm Dreading: Alec's dorm is right in the middle of the city (where we had to go for Freshman orientation) and I am already dreading trying to unload and move a car's worth of stuff smack dab in the middle of tons of traffic and hardly any parking!

What I'm Working On: I'm trying to get all my photos from October of last year until now labeled and put away and scrapbooked.

What I'm Excited About: My husband planned an overnight trip for the two of us as a belated birthday gift and I can not wait... even if it's not until September.

What I'm Watching/Reading: A whole lot of old movies I'd never seen before and a few new ones too: A Little Bit of Heaven (Amazon), A Family Affair (Netflix), The Bear season 3 (Netflix)-- was anyone else as supremely disappointed in this season? I thought it was so boring... I also watched Me Before You (Prime),  Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (Netflix), Which Brings Me to You (Hulu), You People (Netflix), The Rainmaker (my husband found it for us to watch so I don't know what streaming service we used). We started watching How to Get Away with Murder (Netflix).

I'll have a full recap of the 15 Books I read this month on the blog tomorrow and I hope you'll come back and share about some books you've been reading too with our Share Your Shelf link up!

What I'm Listening to: As I've typed this up I'm listening to John Stamos' book on my Libby app.

What I'm Wearing:

What I'm Doing This Weekend: I don't have anything planned yet.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month: All three boys will be starting school next month and I think it's kind of neat that they'll each be taking at least one college course.

What Else is New: Our fridge!

  4. A good month and lots of good meals! How fun to get a new fridge too! It looks nice. Hopefully for the college move-in, they will have lots of people helping and guiding you in parking and unloading. The unloading usually goes so fast in my expereinces.

    1. I told my husband I am trying not to worry about it since so far everything we have done and gone to with WJU has been so well organized and I'm assuming they'll have a plan in place.

  12. Looks like a pretty good summer. Great pictures of the kids (almost adults!!) having fun at the beach. I haven't gotten around to season 3 of Bear yet. A Family Affair was fun. How to Get Away with Murder starts of really strong but I gave up on it after a few seasons. Viola Davis is amazing!

  13. I remember moving in days...never fun. Neither of the colleges my two oldest went to (my youngest commuted from home) had parking close to the dorms. There was always so much walking and carrying up stairs. But, it was all worth it when they graduated. How wonderful your husband planned a getaway. Mine has only done that once. It was for my retirement in 2012. Love the new fridge!

    1. Neither my husband nor I (or our oldest) ever lived in a dorm so this our first experience with that. I'm guessing I helped when my oldest sister went off to college since I do remember her dorm well but I don't remember actually moving her in! This is the first trip (aside from our honeymoon which I 1/2 helped!) that he's EVER planned. I am making a huge deal about it hoping he'll get the hint to do it more often. :)

  14. What a lovely catch up Joanne. I hope the packing and unpacking goes OK for your son. Maybe they have back entrances...seems very impractical. I love that you have something to look forward to which your husband is planning..and congrats on the new fridge. They are so necessary in our lives but new is awesome. Denyse #TeamWWWhimsy

  15. Lots going on for you Joanne! It will be strange with your son going off to college and I'm sure you'll notice the changes, but that's life as a parent isn't it? All the best. #TeamWWWhimsy

  18. My son's school is in Atlanta but thankfully the school is pretty much self contained (especially with Atlanta) so we have a time slot to drop off his things and then we can help him settle in after we park the car. They even have rolling wagon carts to take it to the dorm. With a new month, I need to get back to a routine! Healthy food habits and back to moving. Just hoping that my cold goes away fast, I usually am never sick but this is my 2nd cold in 3 months!

    1. I'm assuming as it gets closer we'll get more information from the school... it sems like the rolling wagons are provided by lots of schools! I hope you are feeling better soon!!
