My Recent Birthday Favorites

I had a fabulous birthday this year! My sister sent me the cutest book shaped vase so I flat out old my husband that I was going to need some flowers to put in it.

Ian and Evan got together and bought me a rocking outdoor chair that they gave to me a bit early so I could use it at the cottage during the 4th of July festivities. They also picked out a nice card and got me a small bag of Lindt dark chocolate truffles (my favorite!).

The Monday before Alec had his wisdom teeth removed (July 8th), my mom and I headed out on our annual birthday shopping trip. It was HOT so I wore a nice cool tank and shorts.

We headed to the Buckland Hills mall and while I tried on lots and lots of clothes...  we shopped forever before I found a few things I liked enough to buy.

This set was a no for me..

As were ALL of these!

It was nearly 2 o'clock by the time I called it a day and we headed out for lunch. I had skipped breakfast and was starving (not good!) but a burger sounded great so we headed to Artisanal Burger Company.

I ordered their Artisanal burger with a side salad.

Then we split a brownie sundae for dessert..

My mom had also made me a bookmark and found a debut book for me to try. She also bought me a necklace that matches the earrings I had bought on our trip to North Carolina last fall (on top of lunch and a little shopping spree-- she's the best!).

My mother in law always picks out a little something for me and gives me some money to spend on myself. This year she picked out this adorable tank top and earrings.

My husband picked up some flowers and chocolates and a Carvel ice cream cake for me but best of all he made plans for us for a little overnight trip at one of the local casinos to see a comedy show (he even made dinner reservations!) but the show isn't until Sept.  I can't tell you who we're seeing since he wanted to keep THAT a surprise and I promised not to look it up and ruin that surprise. I am so excited.

I put his flowers in the vase my sister sent! It's shaped like a book; isn't it cute?

My mom always takes the clothes I pick out on our day of shopping and brings them home to wrap then gifts them to me on my birthday.  I found a nice assortment of shorts, 2 capri pants, a skirt, and a few tops. One thing about a July birthday is that I almost always find some really great sales this time of year (though this year the sales weren't as great as usual-- then again I'm not sure anything could beat the $4 jeans I found one year!).

Here are a few of the pieces on:

The olive capri pants paired with a shirt I already own

We bought this tank and these wide leg capri jeans

I love this lacy blue tank; it has an elastic bottom to give it that tucked in look

The blue shorts from my mom with the white tank from my mother in law

The white lace skirt and black shirt from my mom

  1. Awww, feeling loved by your people and getting great, thoughtful gifts from your people- it doesn´t get much better than that! I like the idea of parents taking adult kids shopping for their birthday- you get to spend time together and the parent gets to buy nice things for their child. I am glad you had a great birthday!

    1. Thank you; that is a tradition my mom started with me when my boys were quite young and I don't think we have missed a single year since! It's always a fun day even if some years we find hardly anything we like we still get to spend the day together and enjoy a delicious lunch.

  9. I love spending my birthdays with my mom! I had to work on my birthday last year, but I think it falls on Friday this year, and she always wants me to shop for something I wouldn't normally buy for myself. I think that's so sweet that you and your mom do the same thing! We're so fortunate to be able to do this with our moms!

I love shopping for my birthday too, but you're right...this time of year is good for end of summer sales--plus you still have time to wear the things.
