Monthly Musings for July-- Late Summer Fun

I can't believe that it's already the last Thursday of the month and time to link up with Holly and Patty for Monthly Musings.

1. The only place we've traveled to is to Little Compton, Rhode Island for an overnight trip with our friends. We have no summer trips planned this year.

2. So far this summer we've enjoyed picking strawberries and blueberries, lots of reading, lots of planning and shopping for college, we've made a trip to the botanical gardens and the beach. My husband and I had a nice date night out at a new restaurant on the water.

3. I am trying really hard to wear a variety of outfits this summer using ALL the pieces in my closet but that said there are some favorites I seem to keep falling back on.

I end up wearing these gauze pants at least once a week or every other week; they are so comfy and pair well with just about everything in my closet

I've been wearing this outfit on repeat too; swapping out this shirt for my other very similar one with butterflies instead of flowers

I wear my linen Old Navy shorts a lot too

And these pinstriped linen pants from Walmart are another favorite; luckily I have a good dozen black shirts so it's never quite the same outfit twice.

4. I am never without earrings, my sunglasses and my flip flops!

I already have my sunglasses in hand in this photo!

5. Any pair of flip flops will do but I do like the ones I bought this summer with a bit of sparkle like the ones in the photo directly above.

6. We spontaneously went to get ice cream a few times, the day we went to the botanical gardens it was only decided an hour or so before we left the house same with the days we went blueberry and strawberry picking.. in fact I think most of our summer plans when we don't have trips or parties planned tend to be spontaneous.

Lots of last minute card games have been played too

 7. We went to the movies to see Bad Boys: Ride or Die. I enjoyed it.

8. My favorite summer sweet treat is definitely ice cream!

brownie sundae

cookie jar ice cream with shell topping

9. I'm torn between wanting summer to slow down and yet seeing how excited Alec is to start college and knowing we have a trip to Hawaii planned this winter I am also a bit in a hurry for fall to get here.

10. All 3 of my boys will be taking college classes this year and other than few last minute things they'll all need (like textbooks when classes are just a week or so away!) I think we're all pretty much ready. BUT we have a whole full month left before that comes.

  1. Those are your Umgee black pants, no? I wore my black and light blue a lot at the end of the school year. I just don't wear pants during summer much. I am contemplating getting the pants in the oatmeal color. Aren't they great pants?
You are doing great at getting dressed! I'm being lazy this week because I have to start putting outfits together next week!

    1. You're welcome! They have far fewer sizes and color choices left this time of year but I did just break down and order them in coral this morning!

    1. That was definitely my plan and we are spending lots of time together; I think Alec was hoping to pick up lots of extra shifts at work but I'm not mad that he's really only been working on weekends.

    1. I really should have snapped up another pair in navy or tan this summer since I only have the one pair in black.

  7. I forgot to mention sunglasses as an accessory; I live in Florida so they're a year-round thing to me!

  9. It looks like you are having a nice summer Joanne. The RI trip looked nice. I wish you a lot of luck with getting your boys ready for school. How exciting to have a trip planned to Hawaii. I went once to Hawaii in 2016 and loved it. I'm due for a trip there!

    1. Thank you so much! I am so excited for Hawaii; we've had this trip in the works for a few years now waiting for a nice long winter break to take advantage of.

  10. I also forgot about sunglasses, though they are year round for me. We planned to see the movie you mentioned but we never did. We will have to catch it when it streams. Your ice cream looks so good- how can it be beat in the summer??

    1. Me too; I find my eyes water any time it is even remotely bright outside... plus I use them as headbands quite often too!

So where do you pick the blueberries? Can you just go out in the wild and get them?? I love having our orange and grapefruit trees, but blueberries would be incredible too.

    1. We do have wild blueberries right across the water from our house but we find they're hard to get to so we go to a local orchard that grows them. It should be nearly time for peach picking soon!

  14. Gosh, I haven't picked blueberries in decades! But, there is nothing like fresh picked blueberries eaten as you pick and then made into delicious things! I've been eating frozen wild blueberries on my Greek yogurt every day for lunch and love them! I miss the days of back to school shopping, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't miss the cost!

  16. I want summer to slow down too. We only have a bit of it the past few weeks. And I finally found the time to read! Gosh I love that!

  17. That basket of blueberries looks so yummy!! One of my favorite fruits! And I'm never without earrings, too!! I literally never take mine out... only to change to another pair, which is very rare!

    1. Thank you! They were so good! I planned to freeze a bunch for winter and just realized that we ended up eating them all and I never got any in the freezer (though I had sworn that I did...).

  20. Hi Joanne, I love ice cream too! Your pink paisley top looks perfect for summer with your navy shorts. It is a bittersweet time for you - you want your son to go and take on life yet you don't want him to leave. I get that. Even though you haven't had trips away this Summer you've still been making memories. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and outfits and #WeekendTrafficJamReboot. Best wishes to your son as he embarks on an exciting new adventure in life. x

  21. I've never picked blueberries! I love to pick strawberries, but we didn't get a chance this year because we have been so busy. It looks like you are making the most of your summertime!

    1. We eat some fresh, bake with some, freeze some for winter... though this time we made jam and ate so many fresh berries I had none left for the freezer.
