4th of July Recap and Favorites
We celebrated the 4th of July on the 6th. The morning started out with thunderstorms and pouring rain but thankfully the rain cleared up by lunchtime and while everything felt pretty wet and sticky the rest of the day we were still able to head to the cottage for my husband's family's annual cookout. We had a much smaller crowd this year as a few branches of the family were traveling and at sports tournaments and things.
The whole "family" complete with friends and girlfriends and boyfriends and others (and yes, Evan is missing he gave up after waiting 2 hours for the photos).
There were so many leftovers from the 6th that many of us went back the next day to hang out and use up the food (like we've started doing these past 5 years or so). I didn't take nearly as many photos though. I just kind of forgot.
We kept seeing lots of little bunnies everywhere... it was so hot and we were all so tired. There was hardly any breeze and nearly 100% humidity.
It was a really nice weekend.

So fun! You have a big family!
ReplyDeleteYeah his side is HUGE; at our wedding I think my family took up a handful of pews and "his" side had nearly every pew filled!
DeleteWhat a fun time! That ice cream looks and sounds delicious!

He owns an ice cream stand and each year picks a new flavor to bring to our party. So far they're all pretty tasty but I'm a sucker for anything with chunks of candy in it.
DeleteLooks like such a great day and that ice cream sounds sooo yummy!
ReplyDeleteIt is so good!
DeleteI love a whole big family gathering. So nice you're able to continue doing this. I'm hoping to make homemade ice cream on Sunday and am thinking peach as I bought a few. Yours is tempting though, and the grandkids would love it I'm sure. Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh yum! I bet fresh peach ice cream would be delicious.
DeleteThat ice cream flavor is now officially my favorite! (Not that I have had it- just from your description, lol!) Looks like a really nice celebration with family.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I bet you'd love it!
DeleteWe celebrated our 4th on the 6th as well. Our turn out was less than usual. Many were celebrating on the 6th. Family attendance was great. It was our friends who were spending time with their families.
ReplyDeleteThe cookie jar homemade ice cream sounds and looks delicious, oh my! Looks like everyone had a wonderful time. Sure enjoy seeing your photos.
Take care and best wishes.
Thank you! We always try to celebrate on a Saturday close to the 4th since many of the cousins travel from further away.
DeleteLooks like you all had a wonderful time. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLooks like this year the 6th was the new 4th! We celebrated on the 6th also.
ReplyDeleteThere were lots of other parties on the lake that day too!
DeleteHomemade ice cream? I'm in!
ReplyDeleteYep, my brother in law runs an ice cream stand (where my family eats for "free"-- really it's in exchange for the work and help of my husband when his brother needs something built or done). It's dangerously good.
DeleteWhat a fun way to celebrate and build family connections. I absolutely love seeing your large family and it made me happy knowing that our place at the lake is becoming that for our family and friends as well. I hope the rest of July is also going well for you. It's much too short not to enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteAw, that is wonderful! My husband's family has been doing this since before I knew him and I've been attending since I was 17!
DeleteWhat a great day! It looks like a fab get together with a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of fun.
DeleteI love that y'all take those group photos every year. So fun to see how everyone grows and changes from year to year! And those bunnies are so cute! Olivia would go nuts! She loves bunnies!
ReplyDeleteIt really is so fun; I really wish we had started those group photos even sooner-- I think the first one was when my boys were small but it would have been really neat if we had started them back in the '90's!
DeleteHot, sticky and humid. That about sums up the Fourth of July!:) Looks like you guys definitely made the best of it!! That ice cream flavor sounds delish!!
ReplyDeleteYep!
DeleteAlways so fun to get everyone together!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is; I didn't even recognize a few of the nephews (and Evan was told by a few family members that they wouldn't have recognized him either). They're all changing so fast.
DeleteIt looks so relaxing and fun! Your brother in law has some mad ice cream skillz!
ReplyDeleteHe owns an ice cream shop so he kind of has to! LOL
DeleteWhat a fun day! Our weather was great albeit a little too hot but me and the 2 youngest spent our time in the pool after eating while everyone else sweated playing basket ball and such =) The best fun is in or near the water in my opinion!

Definitely! I like being near the water in summer too.
DeleteSeeing the bunnies reminds us of our area around here. They are all over and of course Piper loves to chase them.
ReplyDeleteSo much so that we started listening to watership down because I wanted to hear it again!
Xoxo

They are really prolific here this year; we often see bunnies in the spring but I feel like we are seeing them everywhere this year.
DeleteIt looks like such a fun time! That homemade ice cream looks absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

Aw, thank you!
DeleteWow! that is a huge family get together. That's amazing that ya'll still get together like that. Here it rained on the 4th of July, 2nd year in a row. So disappointing.
ReplyDeleteWe had rain the 4th, 5th, 6th, & 7th! LOL... and it's raining again today too.
DeleteWhat an amazing couple of days...looks like something fun for all. The ice cream looks delish!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

ReplyDeleteWe also celebrated on the 6th this year with a dinner at my son's house! The weather has been oppressively hot here (98 degrees) so we stayed inside. Looks like a great couple of days and wonderful reunion with family. That ice cream sounds amazing!
Yep, that is hot! We were so thankful to come home to our a/c on Sunday; the heat and humidity were giving me a headache since it was literally hard to breathe.
DeleteWhat a gathering! Nice to be near the water when it was so hot.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is!
DeleteIt looks like a fabuous time! and tasty, too!
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful Joanne . . .

DeleteJoanne,
ReplyDeleteMore power to you sitting outside in this heat..I have been cooped up in the house with the shades drawn to keep the sun out and to not over use the air conditioner in this horrible heat and humidity... I do not do well in the Summer physically and it is really taking a toll on me... Thanks so much for stopping by!! stay cool, my friend!!
Hugs,
Deb

I hope the heat breaks soon!
DeleteWhat a lovely spot - I always envy those in the US with a lakeside vista like this - the fact that you can sit, swim, jetski, etc is such a great way to keep everyone occupied when you have a get together - and I'm sure it's cooler by the lake than it would be in suburbia. A wonderful time of celebration for you all Jo.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is often much, much cooler at the lake.
DeleteYour 4th of July celebration looked lots of fun. I love spending my summers in the lake.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
