Hello Monday! A Look at Alec's Senior Prom

On Friday, Alec's school had their senior prom and seniors are allowed to leave school at 10:45 (as long as they have parental permission) so that they can "get ready" for prom.

Obviously, Alec does not need 8+ hours to get ready so he asked if his friends could just follow him home from school and hang out at our house all day. Of course I said sure and even offered to buy them pizzas.

They laughed their way through a movie (or perhaps TV show; I wasn't paying real close attention)

They played Battleship

They ran a good 30 minutes behind schedule with hair and make up even with Alec pitching in and helping one of this friends with their hair style so we were very late getting to the park for pictures with all of their other friends (and didn't get any at our house like we had planned). But it ended up working out well since the park was pretty much deserted by the time we got there and it had been really busy with 2 other proms in the area on the same night.

Before arriving at they had all decided they'd rather take extra time and get lots of good photos at the park than be on time for prom- they all agreed that they don't love the photos the school contracted photographer takes (hence, why you've never seen Alec's senior photos on the blog-- we got some taken and only selected the 1 photo for the yearbook, declining to order any for ourselves).

I would guess they were about 30 minutes late to prom and they were back at my house by 9:45 so they probably left prom a good 30-45 minutes early. But they said they had a great time. They all agreed the best part was seeing everyone dressed up and taking photos. They each had cameras and cell phones with them but there was also a photo booth set up and they could take as many free photos as they wanted.

His group took that as a challenge and each came home with several photo strips.

    1. Aw, thank you! I thought he did a great job picking out his tux and all the colors. It sounds like they really had a lot of fun; and that's saying something since he didn't want to go in the first place.

    1. Yes, I love seeing the different styles and designs. I commented on one of the girl's and her pockets and a fellow mom turned to me and said that she wished we had had that option back when we were going to prom too.

    1. Yeah, the school photographer just doesn't take photos that are our style-- everyone tends to look very washed out and bleached and she costs a small fortune BUT that does mean she takes photos for proms and special events for free for them so it's a trade off I guess.

  21. I think going to prom with a group of friends is probably so much more fun than going with a single person. I, of course, went with my now husband and had an OK time. But, a group of friends would be sure to make the event fun! Love the photo booth photos!

  23. That's funny that they got off of school early so they had time to get ready for prom and they were still late. Sounds like it didn't matter much if they got home early. Their outfits are lovely.

    1. I know! But only one of the girls even knew how to do hair and make up so she was basically getting all 3 girls ready by herself while Alec just hung around-- until he was pulled in to take over using the curling iron on the very last girl.

  24. What a fun time with friends. I think it's so funny the school gave them 8 hours to "get ready." I only had one of my 3 kids go to prom, and he was home by 9:45pm, too! :) ha Visiting from Talking About it Tuesdays.

    2. Thank you! I thought it was pretty funny too but I guess a few of the girls were remarking that between hair/nail/make- up appointments many of them really had to scramble to be ready on time. I think it probably didn't help that it's a regional school and depending on where some of the kids live the venue was over an hour's drive (it was less than 30 minutes for my son).

  26. I love where the kids at my son's high school take their prom pics. It's 45 min from the house but worth the drive (Berry College). They all ate out after before heading to prom. Like your son, they didn't stay that late.

    1. All our proms include a sit down meal so luckily no one needed to be fed first or we would have been even later! They had a real hard time finding a park that was somewhat centrally located since kids in his friend group come from a wide variety of towns around the north east corner of our state.
