A Hodgepodge Wednesday (Finally!)
While I read Joyce's blog every week I rarely make an actual Hodgepodge Wednesday post (though I do leave a comment with most of my answers!). I try really hard to blog 2 weeks ahead of time so I almost always have a post ready to go by the time Joyce shares her questions.
But I've been in a bit of blogging slump lately and I thought I'd add a few "new" things to the blog; Hodgepodge Wednesday at least once a month being one of them!
1. Did you watch the Kentucky Derby this past weekend? Have you ever been to a horse race? Ever ridden a horse? Did you enjoy it? Have you ever been to Kentucky? Do you like Bourbon?
I have never watched the Kentucky Derby, been to a horse race, or tried bourbon. I have ridden a horse a time or two; mostly in a circle as a kid at zoos and fairs and things like that. I thought it was just okay.
2. What's something you wish you'd placed in a time capsule fifteen years ago?
Let's see 15 years ago Evan would have been 1, Alec 3, and Ian 5-- Pretty sure this was that was the year that Ian and Alec had their preschool graduation and my husband and I met up for a long weekend just the two of us in Disney after my husband been working in Florida for two weeks-- it felt like a second honeymoon! I wish I had placed the boys paper graduation caps in a time capsule; I'm pretty sure those would never fit them now!
I don't think I am even a little adventurous but I am trying to get better at pushing myself outside my comfort zone.
4. Something you want to make this year? It can be a new recipe, craft, diy project, a milestone you've set for yourself...anything at all.
I always have a list of new recipes to try and I made it a goal for myself to get back into painting this year. So far this past month I have made a couple of small paintings using acrylics but I also really want to break out my calligraphy set and remember how to use all those fun/ specialty tips to write and draw with.
5. Cinco de Mayo was also celebrated this past weekend...do you like Mexican food? If so what's your favorite dish? Have you ever been to Mexico? Margarita-yes or no?
I don't think I am much of a Mexican food fan because I don't really like spicy foods but I've also never really had "real" Mexican food; just the stuff we make at home like tacos and fajitas. I must admit that the tacos we had in Tennessee at a real taco restaurant (while spicy for me!) were delicious! I have never had freshly made soft taco shells before...
My husband and I just went to Mexico for the first time earlier this year; Cozumel was one of the stops on our cruise and it turned out to be our favorite day (and no, we didn't really eat Mexican food there either!).
We toured some Mayan ruins and our guide was just the sweetest! |
I have never had a margarita either... I don't drink alcohol and never really have as the few times I've tried it I haven't really liked it.
6. Insert your own random thought here. While I was searching for that photo of the boys in their graduation caps I decided it was a good opportunity to start looking for photos to use for Alec's graduation banner. It was such a fun trip down memory lane!

If you ever want to try bourbon, you need to come to my house. My husband is a collecdtor and has over 250. Lol! Cozumel was my first trip ever out of the US. Love that place so much!

Our husbands should meet lol. Mine is also a collector, although he doesn't have nearly as many as you. He is at about 90.
DeleteThank you; that sounds like quite the collection!
DeleteI did a hodgepodge post for the first time today as well. They are fun questions! I enjoyed reading your answers and looking at your photos. The picture of your boys in their preschool caps is so good! I put something relating to my kids being little in a time capsule then as well. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThey are a lot of fun; I often answer Joyce's questions each week but just in the comments section on a few other blogs. LOL.
DeleteWelcome to the Hodgepodge! So nice to see you here today, thanks for playing along. I have been trying to participate in more link ups recently as I needed to get my blogging rhythm back. It's helping! Aww, love those preschool graduation pics. When you start looking back through photos you realize how quickly time has flown. Enjoy time with your graduate!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI don't like spicy stuff that makes your lips burn but a good regular spicy salsa is where it is at!
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't like that! I find that even a mild salsa makes the inside of my mouth burn.
DeleteLove all the throwback pictures, time sure does fly!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWhen I was writing my answers I forgot that Cozumel was part of Mexico. I'll have to go fix that!
ReplyDeleteI almost said no about traveling to Mexico too! LOL
DeleteI think you were very adventurous to come to Nashville and so glad you did! So glad we met and that you had delicious tacos :).
ReplyDeleteThat's going to be a lovely graduation banner!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteSo fun! Give me all of the Mexican food AND Mexico for that matter-one of my favorite places in the world :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThose pics are so cute for his graduation banner!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm the same with #3...but I'm trying to push myself too.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Jodie
I am getting pretty good at it but I will definitely never be the type to go sky diving or rock climbing...
DeleteI agree with Marilyn that our Nashville trip was pretty adventurous! I loved seeing the preschool picture.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh, friend, come visit me. We have so many amazing authentic Mexican restaurants here. I don't like spicy food either, so I get it. ❤️
ReplyDelete❤️
DeleteWe have a really good Mexican restaurant here and food is not spicy at all. I don't love Mexican food, but occasionally I don't mind it. The graduation banner is going to be wonderful, I can already tell.

Aw, thank you! I'm also trying to put together a photo montage (which I've never done before!).
DeleteI will take one for the team and drink allll of the margaritas for you! Mexican food is not always spicy - keep trying things until you find something you like. My favorite thing is barbacoa tacos. The neat is so tender and juicy. Add a squeeze of lime and some chopped cilantro and onion and its the BEST.
ReplyDeleteI definitely will keep trying new foods and will keep an eye out for barbacoa tacos.
DeleteOh, I do like a good margarita! But, I seldom have them because I don't drink much at all...maybe once a year. So, they really hit me hard. That time capsule question would be hard. Fifteen years ago, I became a granny for the first time, so I would have put something from that in there! Fun prompts, Joanne!

Yeah I find that I just can't handle alcohol at all anymore and feel just 1 drink so fast.
DeleteMexico is certainly on my bucket list, and I love spicy food! And Frida Kahlo! Impossible to get real Mexican food here (australia) so I'll have to head off for the real thing one day.

Yeah it's not a bit thing in New England either. I know there must be some good Mexican foods perhaps in the larger cities but definitely not where we live.
DeleteI think it's good to change something sometimes to get your mojo back. And it's lovely to read!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteFun questions (and wonderful photos) but I especially love the time capsule idea. I must think on that one!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a fun question!
DeleteI have seen these Hodgepodge posts over the last few months and I am thinking about joining in too but I am the same as you, I blog in advance so already have a post ready when the questions come out. I might have to jiggle things around.
ReplyDeleteAww! The boys look adorable in their graduation caps and I love your paintings.
The trip to Mexico looks fantastic.
Thank you so much!
DeleteHi Joanne, these kind of posts are great for getting to know a person more! Love all the photos of your son. 15 years ago I will still spending two hours of every day commuting to work and was living the corporate life in a concrete building in the city in meetings most of each day. Ugh! I don't miss it but I do miss the social side of it. Thank you for linking up with #WWWhimsy ... hope to see you again next week! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHodgepodge - what a great word! And great questions too! I saw that Lewis Hamilton brought out his own range of non alcoholic tequila so maybe you can try (and enjoy) a margarita after all. I love Mexican food and margs but alas, have never been to Mexico. One day... PS Love the paintings - hope you stick with it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I hope to make it at least a monthly thing if not a weekly thing.
DeleteOkay, I would totally think of you as adventurous! Haha..But maybe you think adventurous more as daring? I think of it as that but also willing to explore and do new things.
ReplyDeleteYour trip to Mexico looked great. I went to Cabo, but I think I would also like to visit other places and be able to explore more.
Yeah, I guess I was thinking more daring adventures and not so much just exploring. I definitely like to explore new things!
DeleteI'm not super adventurous either so I'm right there with you. I would LOVE to be one of those people who is adventurous though! I have to be pushed, though.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteHow nice to meet you on here Joanna, it was good to hear your answers and made me think of what mine would be! Love the photos. So nice to look back down memory lane, my kids get annoyed as I tend to share the piccys with them or on Facebook! Do join my Chicandstylish every Thursday. Jacqui. Mummabstylish.
