My Sister In Law's Art Show

We did something a little out of the ordinary last week; my sister in law had a show for her artwork at a gallery!  We had never been to a gallery opening before. I love walking through art galleries but I don't ever remember going to an opening or seeing the artwork of anyone I know in one before.

It was definitely a favorite moment from my week!

My husband and I decided to make a whole date night out of it. We got dressed up, went to the gallery and then planned to head out to dinner.

The invitation- The gallery is called the DeBlois Gallery in Middletown Rhode Island

I had such high hopes for a lovely night on/near the water with the gallery being located right near Newport but it POURED so much that we elected to not stop in Newport and wander around after the show... but enough about me; I really wanted to show you more about the show itself.

It's a fairly small gallery but it was packed with people and art from many artists (though my sister in law has already been invited back for another snow next year).

I've had my sister in law's artwork at my house for months at a time trying to get good photos for her portfolio but it is not easy artwork to get a good photo of since there is such dimension and detail. There are little sparkling gems imbedded throughout too

This is the best I've ever managed but seeing her art work framed, in a gallery, with the lights shining off it was wonderful!!  The larger fish piece seemed to sparkle and I heard so many compliments on that piece.

I spent most of the hour or so we were there chatting with family and trying to take photos of her, her work, etc. but I did wander around and snap a quick photo of other works of art that caught my eye.

I love a good ocean painting and this one had such lovely colors and a real feeling of movement.

This painting was so neat because the bottom 1/2 of the rocks are under some sort of clear acrylic or epoxy that mimics the look of water so well!

This "reflection" work of art is all made with fibers; string and yarn and whatnot and was so detailed!

While I am a traditional paint on canvas girl, this gallery also showcased photos, sculptures, and a really wide variety of mediums and art. I was really inspired.

    1. Me too! I mean I can paint on canvas but I'm not usually into experimenting with new mediums... I'm often baffled by them.

    1. That is so cool!! My grandmother was a phenomenal artist but I don't remember her doing much with her artwork other than framing and putting it around her house (which is what I've always done too!). I have a few of her pieces now and I love looking at them.
