Making the Most of Our Maxi Skirts with Ageless Style
It's the third Thursday of the month and time for another ageless style challenge. This month Amy picked maxi skirts as our theme and while I have a couple that I wear in the summer I didn't have anything that felt appropriate for winter.
I ended up buying a denim maxi skirt and I really love it but that's not what I ended up wearing at all.
First off it was a cold and windy day (think 28 in the sun!) so I wanted to wear my fleece lined leggings underneath and a thick turtleneck sweater. I was so surprised to find that one of my spring/summer maxi skirts worked much better with the fleece pants so I just went with it.
But in all honesty I took the skirt off as soon as got back to the car. I really just can not bring myself to wear dresses and skirts when it's cold outside and it feels much too weird (and staticky!) to wear my leggings underneath the skirt. But I do like knowing I could if I needed to.

Oh, pretty! And that necklace looks really nice with the sweater and the entire outfit.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWhat a pretty monothcomratic look! I love all the shades of blue and the addition of this chic necklace.

Thank you so much!
DeleteI love maxi skirts, and this one is just beautiful. It looks great with the denim jacket too - I pair a jacket or cardigan with my maxi skirts in winter. Shoes are always the hardest for me to pair with a skirt in winter. You look great!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! I probably could have used a winter coat but thought it would look funny. :)
DeleteI like the look and you blend in beautifully with the gorgeous background!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWhat a good idea to wear the fleece leggings under the lightweight skirt. I wear mine all the time to go outside for supervision when its cold but not cold enough for ski pants. That's a lovely print and I can see if paired with so many things for spring and summer.

Thank you! It was the only way I could even think of taking photos outside in a skirt.
DeleteWhat a great idea to wear fleece leggings under a maxi skirt! I love this look on you. I like how you styled your maxi skirt. It looks great with the denim jacket. I can't believe it's so cold by you. It's been so unseasonably warm in Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Our weather seems to be all over the place; we've had everything from near zero to near 50 in the last few weeks!
DeleteYour new hairstyle looks great! I like the outfit too.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLooks great! I think I am too short for maxi skirts.
ReplyDeleteMy mom has that problem too.
DeleteThis really turned out pretty: love the big chunky turtleneck under the denim jacket. Yes to fleece leggings!

Thank you; I love all shades of blue too.
DeleteNice job winterizing the lightweight print skirt. It has a very sweet print that works well with your neutrals. Maxis in the winter feel a bit odd to me because I wonder how people keep the hemlines dry when there's snow, but I do like to wear shorter skirts in winter as my go-to option with tights.
ReplyDeleteYes! I definitely felt like I was holding my skirt off the ground anytime we were near any snow/ice; thankfully most of it was melted but it was cold enough that the mud was also frozen.
DeleteI think you look fabulous in this outfit, Joanne! Aren't denim jackets just the best? I do hope you wear the denim maxi some time because I remember really liking it when you shared it!

Aw, thank you! I definitely plan to keep the denim skirt and style it more in the spring.
DeleteIt is a cute outfit! I can't do it either in the cold. same here.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI can understand that it doesn't feel nice with that cold to wear a skirt. But it sure does look very good on you Joanne!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteI don't even wear dresses much here in Tx in the winter. It seems more of a warm weather thing. You look cozy though! So funny about taking the skirt off after the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI think so too; I rarely even wear skirts or dresses in spring and fall but often turn to them for summer.
DeleteI love your outfit and the shades of blue look so lovely all together. But with the wind blowing all that static wouldn't feel very comfortable. It's a great transition into spring outfit though.

Thank you!
DeleteI think adding those leggings was brilliant. That's why I think our summer things can be more versatile than we think!!
ReplyDeleteI have worn mine all day just hanging around but I did take off my skirt yesterday when unpacking boxes 🤣

Aw, thank you!
DeleteI love this outfit!! Kudos to you for braving the elements to get some photos for us:) I love skirts and wear them often and think I could put something similar to this together!
ReplyDeleteI really thought it was going to feel so much warmer in the sun than it was! LOL
DeleteSo stylish and cozy at the same time! Great idea adding fleece lined leggings to keep you warm!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThis look is so cute and cozy! I love the print of your skirt! Fleece lined tights and leggings are such a lifesaver in the winter!

DeleteJoanne,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!!! I did smile reading this post as it reminded me of a time when I used to wear maxi skirts about 45-50 years ago!! Imagine that...What goes around does definitely come around again! I hope you have a great week!!

It certainly does!
DeleteVery pretty! I am obsessed with maxi dresses and skirts and now loving the midi length too! Have you tried that length out yet?
ReplyDeleteI have and don't mind that length either; though honestly I rarely wear dresses or skirts and do prefer ankle length when I do just for ease of movement.
DeleteGIRL. You look so much younger with that new haircut. I love it on you so much. And that outfit? Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteI love this look and these are such beautiful photos of you!
