Western Caribbean Cruise day 5

We were docking in Cozumel, Mexico at 7 am. We ate breakfast then relaxed in our room for a bit before getting ready for our tour.

I made sure to eat a big breakfast in case we didn't get any lunch this day either... cinnamon bread, potatoes, eggs, bacon and lots of roasted veggies

Our original tour was canceled (we were going ATVing and snorkeling in an open top cave) but instead we got ready to head out hiking to a Mayan ruin site followed by some time at the beach.

There actually was no hike at all but our guide gave us some earbuds and receivers so we could hear her at all times.  Yane, our guide, was so knowledgeable and I really enjoyed learning all about the Mayans and the importance of the Gervasio Ruins.

This ended up being our favorite shore excursion!  (though I should have used bug spray because I was eaten alive even though we were assured we wouldn't need any since it was not mosquito season; I get bug bites in the middle of winter so there really is no such thing as NOT mosquito season in my world).

From there we got back on our charter bus and went to visit a Mayan shaman at a bee sanctuary so he could bless us all.

While everyone else shopped, my husband and I went on a little nature walk around the sanctuary.

Our final stop was at the ocean on the Caribbean side of the island (cruise ships dock in the channel between Cozumel and the mainland). We got food at El Pescador and we split a huge order of shrimp and steak fajitas. It was delicious! They were so fast and efficient too.

After lunch we walked around on the beach. The waves were huge and there were red flags everywhere.  After yesterday's fiasco in the water I was fine with just enjoying my toes in the sand and a cool breeze on my face.

We drove back to port and walked back to the ship.

We spent our afternoon at the pool.

We wanted to try the 4th and final restaurant included in our package so we went to Cyprus for dinner.

I'm doing awful with remembering to take photos of my food.. but i ordered a spinach turnover, pasta kordelia (sort of like an alfredo but made with a different cheese), and finished off the meal with a chocolate tort that was made with ganache
We had the best time at the show.  We laughed so hard, comedian Ralph Harris was hilarious.

    1. I was thrilled not to be snorkeling! Though I do think the cave would have been much less stressful to snorkel in than the open ocean the day before. :)

    1. Cozumel was probably our favorite stop-- it didn't hurt that the weather was just perfect; not too hot, not too cold, not windy but a lovely breeze.

  22. This sounds a lot better than snorkel day! I would think the area would have so much history that it would be quite fascinating. This is part of the world I've not been and I love reading about it.

  23. I am ready for vacation now! I always get eaten up by mosquitoes too no matter the season but the 2 times we went to Costa Rica, we haven't had issues at all thankfully.
