Favorite "Based on a True Story" Movies

Having spent the last year or so working on sharing my favorite movies from various categories, I'm kind of surprised I hadn't thought to share some of my favorite movies that were based on a true story. 

This is one of my all time favorite categories of movies since I find that the movies themselves often prompt me to read and delve further into the stories behind the making of the movies. 



 A few like The Blind Side, Remember the Titans, Titanic, and Sound of Music were already mentioned in previous "favorites" posts and I'm trying not to repeat movies through all these lists (though it's not always easy and I may inadvertently list one or two I've forgotten I've mentioned before).

    Eat Pray Love, Wild, and Selena are my faves that I have watched! Some of these I did not know were books? I really loved the Forrest Gump book! Did you read that?

      We started watching a ton of these movies in our homeschool for history and then used them as a jumping off point to learn more about the person or that time period.

    I love movies based on true stories. There are so many on this list that I havent seen and I didn't even know they were based on a true story. I'll have to check them out.

      We actually visited the aquarium/ dolphin that Dolphin Tale was based off of on one of our trips to Florida.

    Oh my gosh, we were just talking about movies based on true stories. Have you seen the Netflix movie that just came out society of the snow? It’s about a plane crash in the Andes mountains in 1972. It was something with the survivors did to stay alive. I’m saving your list for sure!

      Yes! We watched that one Christmas Eve and I didn't want to turn it off to go to my mom's because I wanted to see how it ended.

    Apollo 13 is one of my favorite movies ever and is one I'll rewatch often. It's been sad to see The Blind Side story in the news recently. Lots of hurt there it seems. Argo and The King's Speech are two others that are favorites here. Have a nice weekend!

    I've seen the majority of the films on your list, and "The Terminal" stands out as my ultimate favorite. I'm a devoted fan of Tom Hanks.

    You have some great ones here!! I LOOOOVE Pearl Harbor. That movie came out when I worked at the movie theater and I used to sit in there on my breaks and watch it over and over. I also LOVE Selena. My friends and I were obsessed with that movie when it came out!

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Maui Day #3: Road to Hana

Every time I Googled things to do in Maui, the Road to Hana popped up as a "must see." Though every sight warned it was a LONG journey and a tough ride with lots of switchbacks and 59 bridges; 46 of which are one lane. The speed limit for most of the road is only 15-20 MPH and you have to stop to let others pass. So we headed out early and made sure we had a full tank of gas (since there is none on the road!).  We left our condo by 7 and didn't get home until 8 pm-- stopping for dinner this actually made it a fairly typical Road to Hana day (especially since we were staying on the other side of the island).   waves near Ho' okipa lookout-- they were HUGE on the way back. Maui Day #5: Kula Botanical Gardens

 Our last full day in Maui, we decided to visit the Kula Botanical Gardens-- the one that we closing when we tried to stop on our first full day in Maui. We slept in a bit and enjoyed a lazy breakfast at/around the condo before heading out.  It was another beautiful, clear day!  We arrived at the botanical gardens around 9:30 and spent nearly 2 hours exploring. Evan and I took a crazy amount of photos and Alec brought along his sketchpad and pencil.  My photos are in no particular order and I threw in some of Evan's as well... enjoy the roundup! notice the flowers growing OUT of the pink fronds! I was obsessed with these hanging flowers The green balls are macadamia nuts; this was a macadamia tree There were a couple of gazebos  we saw ducks, cats, koi, geese, and more.  This tree had the neatest bark! Share Our Lives: 15 Ways I Save Time on Chores

 I'm taking a break from recapping our Hawaii trip this week but will be back on Monday with daily posts from our time on the big island. Welcome to the first Share Our Lives link up of 2025! This month we're talking about how we're saving time on chores.  Over the years I have tried so many different ways to streamline the household chores/cleaning.  Now I'm not always 100% convinced that they save time but they definitely make cleaning the house seems like a more manageable job.  Some things we've tried over the years:  First and foremost stop dirt in it's tracks. We ask that people leave their shoes at the door! That cuts down on a lot of dirt coming into the house.  Ask for help!  I assigned tasks to each of the boys and rotate who had what chore monthly (something that no longer works with Ian working full time and Alec away at school but it was so nice while it lasted).
