How I Did on My Summer Bucket List

I think I did pretty well with my bucket list!  Mid-way through the summer I did read through it and decided there were a few things I no longer wanted to do but that's the fun of these lists.  I'm in charge!

1. Go kayaking-- Check! We only managed a few short rides but at least we got out there.

2. Enjoy a weekend away with my husband for my birthday-- Check! We had the best time in Kennebunkport.

3. Go birthday shopping with my mom- Check! We went shopping at the Warwick Mall and I found some decent sales/deals. Then we had a delicious lunch at Longhorn complete with a delicious dessert.

We went to the Warwick Mall

4. Get together with my college bestie-- Check! We met up for lunch and enjoyed an afternoon at Harkness park.

5. Visit our friends at their beachside summer rental-- Check! We had the best day at the shore!

6. Visit another college (or 2!) with Alec-- Check! We went to check out the CIA and Alec spent 3 nights and 4 days at Johnson and Wales living in their dorms and baking in the bakery.  He loved it.

7. Paint again-- whether it's a canvas, a rock, some watercolors, I don't really care I just want to start painting something again-- Check! It took me until the week before school started (and uncovering a whole bin of artwork from college!) before I pulled everything out and spent an afternoon playing around with my watercolors.

8. Make macarons-- Check! (though this was completely Alec's doing, I just watched and learned)

9. Go strawberry &/or blueberry picking-- Check! We picked strawberries and talked about going blueberry picking but honestly we still have blueberries in our freezer that we never used.

10.  Go for a walk on the beach-- Check!  I got to do this twice! Once with my friend Jen and her 2 girlfriends when we were at their summer rental and once with my husband in Kennebunkport.

In Rhode Island with my girlfriends

In Maine with my husband

11.  Try at least 2 new restaurants-- Check! With 2 vacation falling during summer we tried out LOTS of new restaurants.. I was going to list them but we honestly tried out so many that I just can not remember the names of everywhere we ate!

Here are a few:

  1. In Maine: Big Daddy's Ice Cream, Satellite Doughnuts, Mornings in Paris, Barnacle Billy's, Mike's All Day Breakfast, Mabel's Lobster Claw, Sweat Pea's Ice Cream
  2. In Virginia: Old 33 Beer and Burger (best burgers I've had in a long time!), Kline's Dairy Bar, Hanks Grill and Catering (yummy BBQ!), Romano's Italian Bistro (amazingly fresh and good!), Spottswood Dining Room,
  3. In New York: Apple Pie Bakery inside the CIA, Rj's Steak & Seafood.
  4. In  Rhode Island: Olneyville New York System

Lunch at The Boathouse in Kennebunkport

RJ's Steak and Seafood in Chatham NY (Such fresh, yummy food!)

12. Have friends & family over for a little cookout-- Check! My aunt and her husband came up from North Carolina and my Uncle Jerry came up from Florida and we hosted a big family cookout.  It was so much fun!

We played lots of card games

enjoyed so many games of cornhole

Some went fishing

Some went jet skiing

13. Make ice cream-- Nope! I decided 1/2 way through the season that we were eating plenty of ice cream between all the ice cream stands we kept vising and trying out that I didn't want to make any and have an excuse to eat even more.  We did make some watermelon sherbet though!

14. Squeeze in some summer hikes-- Check!  It was a really rainy summer so a few of our favorite hiking trails were flooded out and the mosquitoes seemed extra bad this year but we still managed to hike at least once a week or so.

15. Watch some fireworks-- Check!  We went to the town fireworks and ate ice cream while watching them over the river.

16.  Play cornhole-- Check! We dragged out our boards for the cookout and nearly everyone had a turn playing.

17. Play mini golf-- Nope!  I thought this was going to be so easy to check off the list but out of both of our vacation we saw zero mini golf places!

18. Read a book while relaxing outside- Check! I read SO many books this summer and almost always got to sit out on our deck any day that wasn't raining.

19. Go to the movies- Check! We went to see Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny,

20. Watch the sunset (or sunrise!)-- Check!

  12. You did a lot of fun stuff this summer! I feel like you don't see as many mini golf places as there used to be. Making ice cream is good and is a fun activity once in a while but I don't feel like I've ever found a recipe that is any better than any ice cream you can buy at the store.
