Monthly Musings July 2024: Summer Fashion

 It's the final Thursday of the month and time for Monthly Musings with Patty and Holly.  I know I've been pretty sporadic about joining in this year but I do enjoy these little Q&A type posts. This month we're looking at summer fashions. 



1. Favorite summer outfit? You mean like pick one?! I can't do that.  Here are a few favorite outfits I've worn this past month.



I actually have worn this twice this month as it is quite cool since the pants are nearly see through when not on and the shirt has lots of little pin prick holes in the design



2. Favorite summer footwear? That's easy- flip flops!  I own at least a couple dozen pairs.

I haven't seen the Rafters brand of flip flops in ages so I picked up this cute blue pair and the pink below on our travels this summer


These sketchers are another favorite and oh so comfy with a thick cushioned sole

3. Summer accessories I wear on repeat? In summer I tend to wear just earrings and maybe a bracelet with a few rings but I do switch them up everyday to match my outfits.

4. My summer bag? It's always some sort of Vera Bradley.

5. Summer scents? Um... bug spray! LOL  That is definitely the scent I most use in summer because mosquitoes just love me and will not leave me alone (even with the bug spray).  I really can't use perfume or anything pretty smelling. 



6. Maxi dress, romper, or jumpsuit?  Yes to all 3!! I have several maxi dresses, rompers and jumpsuits and I am wearing them quite often this summer.

I've been wearing this jumpsuit from Stitch Fix on a near weekly basis

I have this maxi dress from Soma in 3 diff colors- Navy, black, and this pretty pink cloud pattern

I get so many compliments on this dress from Modlily!

A jumpsuit I bought in 2020 (without even trying it on at a Nautica outlet) and it fits so well

This jumpsuit was purchased on Amazon and I've even worn it to bed a few times it's so comfy

7. Favorite sunglasses? Some cheap pair from Target that I bought a couple of years ago.



8. Favorite Pj's? I tend to wear the Cool Nights from Soma the most in the summer or else a pair of lounge pants with a regular tank top.  

9. White after labor day? Yep, though in all honesty I hardly ever wear white at all. It's not a real flattering color on me. 


10. Favorite summer fashion trend? I honestly don't keep up on trends much but I am loving all the jumpsuits everywhere.  I am a huge jumpsuit fan.

    Those jumpsuits look so great on you- wish I could wear them! Ok I know you don't like white on you but I LOVE that outfit on you with the white jeans- on point and you look amazing :)

    I laughed and cried when I read "bug spray". They are so bad here - at least for me. They love me. I even spray myself and still get bit sometimes. You have such a good collection of summer clothing and you "get dressed" each day it seems like. I am super lazy if I am at home and just wear my lounge clothes.

      Yes! I've taken to carrying bug spray with me and applying it while hiking-- I doused myself 3 times in 45 minutes this morning and still came home with at least a 1/2 dozen bites!

    I love all your cute outfits, but I do have two favorites- those flowy black pants and the romper you've worn to bed. I love something flowy and comfy, especially when it's really hot outside. I live in dresses for the same reason, because when it's over 100 in humidity, I don't want ANYTHING touching me. So, easy breezy dresses for the win! I hope you're having a great week, friend!

    What a great set of questions.
    I love all of your outfits but especially the one with the purple coloured top. I love the idea of flip flops but can't get away with wearing them, I always get a sore patch between my toes. I love that bright sunflower dress of yours from Modlily, I saw a similar skirt from Shein and did think about buying it.

      Thanks! I love that one too. I just wore it for the first time this summer and I love it. It has a fun little slit up to the knee too.

    We have big mosquito issues here...so we're all about the bug spray. I LOVE the Stitch Fix romper/jumpsuit. Perfect for summer.

      Thank you! I have been getting bit a lot this past week so it was high on my list of things to spray. LOL I even went to check and see if that Stitch Fix Jumpsuit came in another print-- because if it had I would have scooped it up in a second.

    I love flip flops but they need to have a little arch in them. Fortunately there are a lot of companies making them that way now. I wear a lot of white in the summer.

      I hardly ever wear white; even my wedding dress was more ivory than white. I have to have a pretty good base tan to wear white.

    Love all the maxis and jumpsuits, Joanne! My sister used to sew for Vera Bradley back when it was just a cottage industry. She would be given x amount of fabric and zippers and had to account for all of it when she returned the completed pieces. It's so funny to me to see people loving it because it got to be so commonplace at home (back when I lived 20 miles away from Fort Wayne, IN). I only have a couple of pieces. One is a backpack I got on eBay. I wanted it so badly I paid way too much for it. I was kind of surprised when I discovered it came FROM Ft. Wayne. Whoever was selling it had probably bought it at the annual sale.

      I can't say I love all their pieces or patterns but every now and then I stumble upon a new pattern that I just love and have to have. I like them so much better than plain black or tan purses.

    This was fun! You have so many cute rompers, jumpsuits and maxi dresses! I like white after Labor Day too. I feel like I always spill something on my white clothes but I love them!

    I love that Vera Bradley bag - wonderful color combo and print! It's funny...we are kind of opposites since I don't like to wear flip flops or jumpsuits. That star print romper from Amazon is really, really cute though... :)

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my ...

Making Gift Card and Money Holders Using Scrapbooking and Cardmaking Supples

I don't tend to keep a lot of crafting supplies on hand so when I saw this month's de-stash challenge I wasn't sure what I was going to make.  I finally realized that with so many of my Christmas gifts being cash and gift cards this year that I needed to make up some fun paper crafting/ creative ways to gift them.   I still want my nieces and nephews to have something to open so I pulled out my papers and stamps and made up some cute little money/gift card holders. They were much easier to make than I thought.  The first one I worked on was to hold some oversized Nintendo gift cards.  I made a standard sized card and folded down one corner of the card front.  Then I ran my double sided tape along the bottom an 1/2 way up the side creating a cute little pocket.  Finally I added some cute embellishments and ribbons.   Voila! Dollar Store Candy Cane Wreath

Making a Sugar Cookie "Gingerbread" House

 Alec really wanted to try making his own gingerbread house this year without using a premade kit.  We talked about how we never really eat the house since they don't taste very good.  Years ago we gave up on the frosting that comes in the kit and began making our own so we thought perhaps we should try making our our house too. Only problem is that no one in the house likes gingerbread.  We talked about trying to make the house using a sugar cookie recipe.  Alec was so excited at that idea since he just LOVES sugar cookies.   He found a recipe online for a simple sugar cookie recipe and mixed up the dough.  He rolled it out an cut it to the size of our cookie sheets-- we had read that it's easiest to cut the house pieces out after the dough has been baked and is still warm and soft because then you don't have to worry about any of the pieces losing their shape while baking.
