Movie Character Inspiration with Ageless Style

.It's the third Thursday of the month and time for another ageless style challenge.  When I saw that Bo picked movie characters as inspiration for our styling challenge today I spent a good hour (or 2!) online Googling various "famous movie outfits" and "iconic movie styles." Then I started Googling specific actresses and roles I knew they had played looking for some inspiration that could come from my own closet.

I finally settled on this outfit of Cameron Diaz from The Other Woman.  I knew I had white jeans and I just bought a reversible tank from Lily Pulitzer that is nearly identical in color.  I figured it was going to be so easy!

Inspiration outfit:

I put my outfit on and it felt like the embodiment of summer.  I added some of my own personal accessories and sandals and we headed out to take pictures.

But I hate how this outfit looks on me in photos!  Weird because it feels so comfy and so flattering.

What I created:

We took nearly a dozen photos and I didn't like any of them! Notice too how the tank changes color slightly in each photo.  Who knew it would be so hard to photograph?

I decided to try and take some mirror selfies more with a side view and a few with the tank tucked in a bit and that seemed a bit better.  Regardless of how it photographs I know this is one outfit I will be wearing again-- though next time I'll probably wear it with the print showing just to change it up a bit.

I think I just don't like the boxiness of the shirt with the style of white jeans I used.  Something cropped and more form fitting would have been better with the flowy tank but I worked with what I had.

  1. I don't remember that movie, but I love Cameron Diaz. I love white with bright colors. I think the outfit looks best tucked in like Cameron did in the inspiration photo and what you did in the selfies.

  2. I think you did a fantastic interpretation of the character 💚 Photography can be tricky at times. I love your color combination 🤩

  3. Funny how I looked at this picture too and now I am thinking how I could have chose this same outfit! Love the color of your tank and it is so pretty with white. Going to have to combine my halter top in that color with white jeans soon!

    1. Oh yes it would be wonderful in a halter top combo too!

  4. I totally know this movie!!!! What fun inspiration. Okay, I love that this top is reversible, like a two for one. Also, lighting with pictures is super tricky, I was struggling with mine too but being that it was literally two days before the post, I had to just go with the photos that I had. The most important part is that you felt great in this outfit and I am happy you are going to wear it again!

    1. Yes, I loved that this top was reversible (and honestly, I should have returned it for a smaller size-- but I loved how flowy the oversized one felt).

    1. I so rarely wear that color combo! If left on my own I would have paired the green with black pants or jeans.

  6. I think the color combo is fantastic, and in the inspiration photo, it looks like her tank is tucked in somewhat too. Either that or use an elastic to create a ruching. That might make it look better to you,
But I do think it's a fabulous summer look. Sometimes we get too critical about all of the details.

  7. I know the "doesn't photograph like it feels" phenomenon all too well! Sometimes outfits look so much better in motion than when standing still that the photo doesn't do it justice. I love that shade of green with white - so fresh and summery!

  8. I love the outfit! The green and white color combo is perfect for summer.

  9. It's a very pretty colour combination I think. Very fresh!

  10. Crazy how the color of the top changes!! It is a beautiful color - in each version!! - and looks very pretty on you. I can relate to picking out something to wear and feeling good in it, then taking a picture or looking in the mirror and realizing I don't like the way it looks at all. I felt that way about the white top challenge a couple months back Put on my outfit and didn't like it at all!! Ha!!

    1. I will wear it again and just not look in the mirror this time! LOL If I like the way it feels; that's good enough for me.

  11. I remember that movie! You picked a good one. I think these colors are so pretty together. Isn't it crazy how things can photograph differently than real life? Photography doesn't capture the movement of a piece well and I think that plays a lot into it. That top looks like it flows and moves really nicely.

  12. You look great, Joanne! White and green together is one of my favorite combos, especially for summer!

  13. Oh, that was such a fun movie! I think you captured the character perfectly. But, when you aren't feeling it, you just aren't. I think you look gorgeous. That color is wonderful on you!

  15. This is a fun prompt! I don't know who I would chose, although I've definitely drawn fashion inspiration from General Hospital on more than one occasion! Ha!
