Not Just a Mom: A Day in the Life Weekend Edition

I typically love day in the life posts and I was excited when we came up with the idea of sharing a day in the life on a weekend for our Not Just a Mom link up this month... however, I had no idea that the day I would be sharing would be so boring! LOL.  Sorry, but most of our weekends are pretty low-key.

I hope you'll join us! It's always the 2nd Monday of the month.

Saturday March 4th:

4:30-- The alarm goes off so my husband can get to work.  I often fall back to sleep but this day I'm wide awake so I pull out my Kindle and settle in to read. As I read I hear Ian and my husband hustling around getting ready for work. They work 1/2 days every Saturday.

6:30-- nearly 2 hours goes by before I feel the need to get out of bed. I wake up to a wintery mix of snow, ice, and rain and decide to cancel my plans to run errands.  I get dressed.

7:00-- I eat breakfast while reading some more and then pull out our monthly menu and my weekly grocery list to make sure I have everything marked on the list that I need to pick up for dinner--- my boys and husband are responsible for making sure they have what they need for their own breakfasts and lunches on the list.
Crustless quiche with 2 slices 647 bread and Brummel and Brown yogurt spread-- 3 points.

7:30-- I head upstairs, make the bed, sit down to finish reading blog posts from Friday and work on typing up a few blog posts for the week. I typically like to work a week ahead but use my Saturday mornings to make sure all 5 upcoming posts for the week are finished and ready to publish at 5 am each day.

9:30-- I spend 10 minutes debating about making cards or working on scrapbook pages-- for some reason I keep putting off starting my scrapbook pages for Universal but know I just need to dive in and get started.  I made two cards and then cleaned up.

10:45-- I noticed it was snowing much harder and headed downstairs to put away the dishes.

11:00-- I sat back down at my crafting desk and began working on scrapbooking pages.  I managed to get 10 pages mostly laid out.  They all still need titles and embellishments but I picked out the main colors and adhered the photos.

1:00-- I cleaned up my scrapbooking table and had some lunch--- by this time I had only had one glimpse of Evan.  I decided to check in with each of the boys real quick.  My husband had called to say he was working late-- he needed to work on some parts and plans for repairing our solar panel stand so we can get them back up and get them operational.

1:30-- I settled in to finish reading my book and put my kindle down around 3.  It was a good book but much more depressing than I had counted on; thankfully it had a happy ending but left me feeling melancholy just the same.

3:15-- 3:45-- I walked up to get the mail since the rain and snow had mostly stopped.

3:45-5:00-- I worked on making titles and embellishments for a few scrapbooking pages and get 3 fully completed.

4:15 (took a quick break)-- Washed the potatoes for dinner and got them in the oven.  I pulled out the broccoli and steak and prepared them for cooking too.

5:00-- Started cooking the rest of dinner and set the table. Then I sat in the living room reading.

5:30-- We ate dinner & watched some more of The Nanny.

ribeye steaks with mushrooms, baked potatoes and broccoli with salad

6:30-- We cleaned up the kitchen, emptied the dishwasher for the second time and refilled it before starting it for the last time today. Then I took a quick shower.

7:00-- I settled in to watch Daisy Jones and the Six-- despite not loving the book I just can't resist watching.

Sometime around 8 my husband came in and we watched The Rookie then went to bed sometime around 9.

I hope you'll join us next month when we share some of our favorite cleaning hacks.

  1. That sounds like a nice, low key Saturday. Cold outside, warm inside and plenty to do in the house. Hopefully in a month, the snow and freezing rain will be behind us!

    1. Oh yes, I am hopeful the snow and freezing rain will be behind us soon too... though not this week, I guess! We're bracing for what might be our biggest storm this winter.

  6. I need to watch Daisy Jones! I read the book and didn't like it all that much either... until the last page! That end made the whole read worth it to me! Still not my favorite TJR book, though!

    1. We wake up at 4:30 for 6 days each week (we do try to sleep in on Sundays)-- well just myself, my husband, and my oldest son. Alec is up by 6 the latest and Evan can sleep until whenever he feels like it.

  10. I never read Daisy Jones (was on the fence about it) and didn't plan on watching the show either. Are you liking it?
Good call on not heading out in the sketchy weather.

    1. The show is decent and seems to pretty closely follow the book; and the interview format doesn't seem as weird to me when watching as it did reading.

  12. Gosh, I have only been asleep a couple of hours at 4:30 am! I am definitely not a morning person. You accomplished so much on your "boring" day! I don't think it was boring at all. I enjoyed Daisy Jones and the Six and hope to watch the show.

  25. My days used to have such busyness and routines but now, it's an easier life with us two and we take advantage of that along with having some minor routines. Loved the pics... Great to see you link up your post for this week’s Wednesday’s Words and Pics link up at Denyse Whelan Blogs. Thank you for being part of the WWandP community. Denyse.

  26. I am in awe of the number of scrapbook pages you knocked out in one sitting. What am I doing wrong??? I usually worry over a 2-page spread for at least a week. Ha!!

And the reading. I read for 5 minutes and am either asleep or ready to jump up and do something else. I think they call that ADHD!! But I wish I could just read and read some more.

Hope the days of looking out and discovering it is snowing are behind you for some months. Surely spring will be along soon.
