My Favorite Action Movies

In January I had the idea to share some more of my favorite books and movies; picking a Friday each month to focus on one genre (I shared my favorite romantic comedy movies HERE in January) and then never got around to publishing another "favorites" post.  Today I am picking back up with what has become another of my favorite genre of movie.

Years ago if anyone would have asked I would have said that I don't really like action movies but my husband LOVES them and so I've seen lots of them.  We actually found that we both enjoy those action moves that either have some humor or some romance thrown in (and even better if they include both!).  Not sure what I mean?  Here's a list of a few of my favorite "action" movies.

  1. This was fun to read- I am not an action movie person so these were all new to me!

  2. I love Fool's Gold and I watch everything with Matthew M.! Also, I like the Spanish connection to the gold they are looking for.

  3. I am a lot like you- I would not have said that I liked action movies but my husband does so I've seen a number of the ones you listed. Once my son was old enough to like them, he and my husband started watching a lot of those types of movies together. But I still watch some action movies with my husband. I will have to ask my husband about some of these. They don't sound familiar to me.

  4. I've watched most of the movies on your list.
    I especially love disaster movies.
That was a fun post to read.

    Hugs and blessings, Joanne.

  5. I am not an action movie person but I did think of Independence Day before I saw it on your list! I haven't seen many of these but I think I saw one of the Die Hard movies, Twister, and definitely Kindergarten Cop. Another one I loved was Speed!

    1. Yes! I loved Speed too-- I watched most anything Sandra Bullock played in. Point Break would have been another great one to add to this list too.

  6. I love action movies! And you have some of my favourites on your list like The Olympus/London/Angel Has Fallen and Date night that I watched not long ago. The Bourne series is really good and so are the Taken movies. Oh yes and of course all the John Wick movies!

    1. I haven't watched Bourne and I was afraid Taken might make me not want to travel! LOL. I am a big chicken. My husband recently watched through some of the John Wick movies so I know what they are... but they were just a bit too dark and depressing for me.

  7. I was going to say I am not a fan of action movies but I love so many of these. Armageddon is in my top 10 movies of all time and Independence Day too, the original, not the new one. I like most movies with Will Smith in most of those which are action movies.

    1. Yes, I am with you on the Independence day being the original. I really like Will Smith; the byplay between Smith and Goldblum.

  8. It's funny because I was thinking the same thing as Kim. But Red is where I first fell in love with Helen Mirren who is now my icon!!

  10. I'm not a fan of action movies, but then as I read through yours, I realized I might be! Many times, it depends on the actors in the movies. I really like Nicholas Cage movies because he's just so out there!

  12. OMG I forgot all about For Richer or For Poorer!

  13. What a great idea for a post. My husband loves action films, the Bourne Series, Mission Impossible, Mad Max. I must confess I haven't seen very many on your list. I'd say my favourites are Predator, The Great Escape and Robocop, but they might possibly be a different genre?!

    1. I didn't even think of the Mission Impossible series; I really enjoy those too! I tend to think of Predator and Robocop as more sci-fi but sometimes it's hard to tell the lines on some of these genres as they do seem to overlap so much.

    1. I can't say I willingly watch any action flick but most of the ones on this list I've watched multiple times.

  16. I wouldn't say I'm the biggest action movie person, but I do love San Andreas and most Fast and Furiouses (ha), especially 1, 5, and 7. Now that there's no Paul Walker, though, it's just not the same. (And I haaated Paul Walker when I was a teen--he's such a jerk in She's All That!--so this is real growth for me.)

    1. I didn't realize Paul Walker as in She's All That (though now that you say that I can totally picture him in it!!). I've seen bits and pieces of the Fast and Furious movies since my oldest was obsessed with them and bought all of them on DVD.

  17. I wish my husband loves movies as much as I do! I've seen probably 80% of your list! Love them, and a few I might watch sometime. Great idea for a post! What's your next favorite movie genre?

    1. I am so lucky that my husband loves movies too. We used to go to the movies every weekend when we were dating... it would get to the point that we'd have to stop because we already saw everything! I think next I'll tackle my favorite comedy movies. I have a lot of those as I just love comedies.

  18. oh wow, some amazing movies there, some a real trip down memory lane. I can honestly say I've watched most of these films at least once. Arnie looks so young in that True Lies cover, I think Jamie Lee Curtis was pretty hot in that film too.

    1. Right!? I love looking back and seeing how much the actors have changed and aged.

  19. I've never been much of an action movie fan either, but I do love Die Hard!! I also loved Men In Black and Armageddon. That's a classic!
