Nature Photos I've Been Taking

 Without my weekly photo challenges (which completely fell by the wayside last summer) and with our weather being rather dreary I have been so unmotivated to take photos.  But my mother got me a tripod for Christmas and I am determined to use it.  So I've been breaking out my big camera more and taking photo of the lake or when we're out hiking.  

I even pulled out my tripod to try and get some photos of the light snow we had a week or so ago.






The next morning the sun was shining through the clouds and I had lots of fun playing with light and shadow and reflection.




All the branches were glistening in the sun-- and best of all I could take these photos through my windows! LOL.






Once the skies turned blue and the sun seemed like it was out to stay, I dragged the younger boys out on a hike. The sun didn't last but all the rain and snow we've had made for some great gurgling sounds as we walked.







Evan and I went on a snowy hike last Thursday and I snapped a few photos (even though the viewfinder got filled with snow and I could hardly see what I was taking photos of!)










Yesterday while getting read I saw this hawk land on the tree outside our bathroom window so I ran to grab my camera and was so surprised it hadn't flew away!

    We have had some awful weather here too. It actually snowed today for about 10 minutes. lol

      We had what they call a "wintery mix" today-- rain mixed with ice/sleet/snow... pretty much ALL the cold stuff that makes driving awful in winter.

    Beautiful photos!! All the views of the trees reflecting in the water are beautiful, and I especially love the snowfall photos. I really miss the I Spy link-up and have really slacked off in taking any photos lately.

      Yeah, I am finding it hard to stay motivated; luckily Evan is studying photography this year so reading with him about how to properly use the camera is helping a bit.

    You live in the prettiest place. I know I say it all the time. But TRUTH!! What a great unexpected capture of the hawk. The reflections are so clear it is hard to tell where they leave off and the land, trees begin. The darker photos in shades of gray are my favorites. Haunting. But the little bit of blue sky in some of the later photos make them hopeful, uplifting. Beautiful captures.

    I'm so happy for you about the tripod and that you're getting your real camera out! You have some beautiful nature near you. Some beautiful photos here, my favourites are those with snow falling and those moody ones at the beginning. It's hard to find motivation for photography when the weather is dull, I haven't used my camera properly for a long time, mainly to take some simple shots of places where I walk and run.

    You did a great job using the tripod. I've become less able to cart around my photography equipment these days so my second granddaughter, who has quite the eye for stills' photography has most of my gear now.       Thanks! It takes me awhile to get it all set up and I haven't even thought about it taking it out of the house yet... but I am having fun playing around with the camera more.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Maui Day #3: Road to Hana

Every time I Googled things to do in Maui, the Road to Hana popped up as a "must see." Though every sight warned it was a LONG journey and a tough ride with lots of switchbacks and 59 bridges; 46 of which are one lane. The speed limit for most of the road is only 15-20 MPH and you have to stop to let others pass. So we headed out early and made sure we had a full tank of gas (since there is none on the road!).  We left our condo by 7 and didn't get home until 8 pm-- stopping for dinner this actually made it a fairly typical Road to Hana day (especially since we were staying on the other side of the island).   waves near Ho' okipa lookout-- they were HUGE on the way back. Maui Day #5: Kula Botanical Gardens

 Our last full day in Maui, we decided to visit the Kula Botanical Gardens-- the one that we closing when we tried to stop on our first full day in Maui. We slept in a bit and enjoyed a lazy breakfast at/around the condo before heading out.  It was another beautiful, clear day!  We arrived at the botanical gardens around 9:30 and spent nearly 2 hours exploring. Evan and I took a crazy amount of photos and Alec brought along his sketchpad and pencil.  My photos are in no particular order and I threw in some of Evan's as well... enjoy the roundup! notice the flowers growing OUT of the pink fronds! I was obsessed with these hanging flowers The green balls are macadamia nuts; this was a macadamia tree There were a couple of gazebos  we saw ducks, cats, koi, geese, and more.  This tree had the neatest bark! Share Our Lives: 15 Ways I Save Time on Chores

 I'm taking a break from recapping our Hawaii trip this week but will be back on Monday with daily posts from our time on the big island. Welcome to the first Share Our Lives link up of 2025! This month we're talking about how we're saving time on chores.  Over the years I have tried so many different ways to streamline the household chores/cleaning.  Now I'm not always 100% convinced that they save time but they definitely make cleaning the house seems like a more manageable job.  Some things we've tried over the years:  First and foremost stop dirt in it's tracks. We ask that people leave their shoes at the door! That cuts down on a lot of dirt coming into the house.  Ask for help!  I assigned tasks to each of the boys and rotate who had what chore monthly (something that no longer works with Ian working full time and Alec away at school but it was so nice while it lasted).
