What's Up Wednesday: October 2022 Edition

Was anyone else a little shocked to realize that this is the last week of October? I feel like I missed a week in there and this link up caught me by surprise.  Luckily, we have been busy making the most of our month so I'm not complaining.  Anyway... onto this month's Q&A!

What We're Eating This Week:

Sunday-- My husband and Ian are heading out on a 12 hour deep sea fishing trip so the younger boys and I decided to head to panera bread.

Monday-- Fresh fish with baked potatoes and roasted zucchini/summer squash (the younger boys had chicken since they don't eat fish.

Tuesday-- Unsloppy joes with fries (butternut squash fries for me) and salad (BLT for Alec since he doesn't eat ground meat).

Wednesday-- Chicken noodle soup with fresh bread.

Thursday-- Pork tenderloin with broccoli and rice pilaf.

Friday-- Weight Watchers Tuscan chicken pasta (I use this recipe) with salad (plain pasta and sauce for Alec and Evan)

Saturday-- Grilled kielbasa (hot dogs for Alec) with roasted potatoes and some sort of veggie.

What I'm Reminiscing About: I was writing up a few posts for this month and came across some old photos of the boys in their Halloween Costumes.  It was SO much work to go trick or treating (where we live we actually drive from house to house and getting in & out of the car is time consuming with thick costumes and often even coats!) but they were so darn cute!

What I'm Loving: My nails are finally growing out again after they all broke last month and I am loving these dark manicures.

What We've Been Up To: My husband and I started the month in Maine.  We enjoyed 4 days of eating, hiking, and exploring seaside towns like Camden, Wiscasset, Boothbay, Edgecombe, and more. Evan and I went on a LOT of hikes and enjoyed watching the fall foliage.  Alec and I made apple pies one day so we're all set for the holidays!

What I'm Dreading:   Snow, ice, the short, dark days of winter.

What I'm Working On: Sadly, nothing! I should be working on getting the scrapbook pages from 2022 done and start making/designing my Christmas cards but I am so unmotivated to sit at my desk while the weather is still somewhat nice.  I did get 2 pages done... and made a card for my monthly card exchange but that's it.

Alec's black belt apprentice grading back in February

What I'm Excited About: Alec gets his first degree black belt next week!

What I'm Watching/Reading: I've been on a real movie kick lately.  This month I've watched: Unplugging, Rosaline, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 1& 2, Runaway Bride, Autumn in New York, & Father of the Bride 1 & 2.

I only managed to read 6 books this month and my review of them all will up on the blog soon.

What I'm Listening to: It's so quiet in our house right now that the only sounds I hear are the heat and the dryer running.

What I'm Wearing: Sweaters, pants, & layers

What I'm Doing This Weekend: We're probably going to be stacking wood to have on hand for the woodstove.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month: Alec's karate grading (to 1st degree black belt!) and Thanksgiving.

What Else is New: We had our mandatory home energy audit and we're all ready to put in our new solar panel!

  1. Your scrapbook pages are so creative! I have a friend who's an avid scrapbooker- she goes away to scrapbooking retreats, has a craft room just for paper crafting, and makes beautiful/ creative pages just like you do. I'm sure you've run across all sorts of talented people on craft blogs. Love all the fall pics of your area and of Maine. Congrats on the black belt. That is impressive!

    1. Aw, thank you! I used to have a huge craftroom but had to give it up when we reworked our heating system. I was lucky enough to set up a whole corner of my bedroom with all my favorite supplies.

  12. Your photos are always amazing! I really enjoyed Emily Giffin's Meant to Be. Some of her books are so formulaic, but this one didn't seem to be! Thanks for sharing.

  13. We're hoping to do a fall hike this weekend. It's been awhile since we've been able to get outside. And I love your dark, sparkly manicures. I need to do my toenails soon (they've been bare for a month -- GASP!) and now I'm thinking I should go dark and sparkly.

  14. Hi Joanne, I love your pics - such beautiful weather and where I live doesn't get autumn like that. Those leaves!!!

I wasn't sure if you mentioned what sort of pie that was but it looks good.

And I love your winter wardrobe pictures as we're heading into summer in Australia and it's getting hot. (And I hate the heat!)

  15. My nails are surprisingly long for me!! And my cuticles relatively unchewed. I am contemplating on going to get a manicure before our vacation. Love the pretty fall nail colors. Yours look so pretty. And you do such a good job with your manicures. I get it all over my hands. My granddaughters give better manicures.

Pinned the WW pasta recipe you linked. Thank you. Will need it when we get back from vacay, no doubt!!

I am taking a bit of scrapbooking break right now, too. I have a big mess on my craft desk. Have been trying to finish scrapping our beach trip from summer 2021. But feel like all of my pages look exactly the same. Need some new inspiration. And I should think about Christmas cards, too!!

    1. You should get a manicure before vacation. That's a fun excuse to treat yourself. I find keeping my nails painted helps them grow better and be a little stronger than usual.

  16. Hi Joanne - I loved all your photos - you're very prolific! I've never really caught onto the idea of photographing every day life, so my photo reel is very sparse (and it shows when I try to find pics for my end of month updates!) I always enjoy having a glimpse into your life.

  17. I just loved seeing those older photos of the boys. Isn't that just so heartwarming??
I remember those snowy, cold days. I have to admit it's worth the hot summers to be here in AZ.

Thanks for being part of the link up for Wednesday’s Words and Pics and sharing your post. It’s always great to see you join in. See you next week…and it’s November already! Denyse.
