Mid-Coast, Maine Getaway Weekend; Recap #1
My husband and I headed out of town the very first weekend in October for a little birthday celebration. We spent 4 days and 3 nights up in Edgecomb, Maine. We had never vacationed further north than Scarborough and thought it would be fun to vacation further up the coast.
From Edgecomb we easily navigated to Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, Camden, Rockport, and Southport; just to name a few towns we visited and drove though/ around.
Friday morning we packed our bags and hit the road by mid-morning making Kittery, Maine a perfect stop for some shopping and a delicious lunch. We stopped at our favorite York River Landing for lunch where I enjoyed some haddock nuggets and French fries and my husband got his first lobster roll of the trip.
Photo taken on our last trip there (I forgot to snap one this time!) |
We arrived at our hotel around 3:30 which was perfect since check in was not until 3. It was a cute little inn and our room was nice. Though I was surprised our "ocean/water view" was across the front lawn and highway!
After getting settled, I talked my husband into a short hike somewhere since we had been sitting in the car and eating all day. We picked a nearby nature preserve and just beat the setting sun as we made it back to our car.
Though it's hard to tell from any of the photos I took over the weekend; the leaves were beautiful! |
This old, crumbling foundation with a pumpkin perched on the end caught our eye |
After hiking we headed back to the hotel and began looking up places to eat in the area.. turns out most things closed at 7 and it was already nearly that. We ended up at the Mountsweag Farm Restaurant. It was delicious and we enjoyed the live music they had playing.
One the way back to the inn we stopped for gas and drinks. I was so excited to see Clearly Canadians in stock; I hadn't had one of them since I was in high school!
It was a wonderful start to our weekend.

Sounds like a perfect weekend getaway. The inn you stayed in really looks so cute and cozy. Maine sounds like a beautiful, relaxing place to visit just like how I always imagine it when I read about it in novels.

I always think of Maine as beautiful and relaxing too.
DeleteOh this looks and sounds so beautiful Joanne! Can't wait to read more :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLooks like a lovely trip! Looking forward to reading more. I am sure it's breathtakingly beautiful there this time of year. I know you guys will find the best hiking spots. I wonder who put the pumpkin on that crumbling foundation? Kinda cool; kinda creepy!
ReplyDeleteI wondered the same thing; especially since we were in the woods a bit close to sunset and I was already a bit spooked. LOL
DeleteHow fun! And Clearly Canadian! I am going to Maine, asap!
ReplyDeleteYou might want to check your local stores first; apparently they are making a huge comeback!
DeleteWhat a lovely break away and the hotel looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a nice trip with your husband. I would love to visit Maine sometime.
ReplyDeleteHow perfect was this! My husband and I are getting away on a fall trip on Thursday and I cannot wait! I truly want to go to Maine sometime
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fabulous trip!!
DeleteSo pretty. One of my blogging friends lives in Maine. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI think I could move to Maine... as long as I could hibernate in the winter.
DeleteMaine is so beautiful and scenic! Our children loved outlet shopping when they were in high school and cared about designer names on clothing. Thankfully, as adults they care less about that! Are lobster dinners still inexpensive in Maine? It's so expensive here in my land locked state.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I did lots of outlet shopping when I was in high school. I don't find them nearly as appealing now but we do stop into one or two stores on each trip. And.. no, Lobster dinners are definitely going up in price even in Maine. I had a bit of sticker shock at a few of the places we ate at.
DeleteOh that looks so lovely. I can't wait to get up to Maine someday.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a beautiful state.
DeleteThat is so funny about the ocean view...sometimes they are so tricky when they describe the view from a room. Looks like a great start to the trip.
ReplyDeleteI do find some descriptions are quite tricky!
DeleteI love how you guys get out an explore!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had that drink, haha.
XOXO

It's just a flavored sparkling water but they were hugely popular in the 90's and then disappeared from store shelves but they are slowly making a comeback.
DeleteHaven't had a Clearly Canadian in forever, they were so good! Great photos, looks like a great time!
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised to see them on the shelves! I thought they had vanished for good.
DeleteSounds like a fun weekend! I love Maine and think it's one of the prettiest states. Also love eating my weight in lobster rolls when we're there. I am so behind in reading blogs and need to sort out a few things on my own as I don't think the email follow link works anymore. We have been so busy and some just have to wait for more free time. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh I do too! And.. yes, I have not been getting your emails from your blog. But I do try to pop by when I remember!
DeleteHaddock nuggets sound scrumptious. I love Maine and have very fond memories of visiting as a child. We are headed to Boston and NYC in about 10 days and I am so excited. Wish we had time for an overnight jaunt to Maine. We stayed in a beautiful ocean front cottage in Rockport when I was little.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter mentioned she found Clearly Canadian recently, too. Can't remember at what store but she lives in Ft. Worth. Maybe it is making a comeback.
It is! I ended up Googling it because I distinctly remember looking a few years ago and finding they went out of business but I guess there was a huge social media push to bring it back and it's making a hue resurgence.
DeleteWhat a wonderful weekend you had. I haven't been to Maine in years, maybe even decades now that I think about it. Weekend trips are wonderful, though, aren't they?

They really are fabulous. My husband and I were talking about how we actually seem to enjoy weekend trips more than a full on vacation-- I think because we let ourselves indulge more when it's just a few days versus a whole week.
DeleteWe were in the forest last Sunday and indeed the colours were fabulous! And all the leaves on the ground, it made a beautiful carpet.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are definitely starting to carpet the ground here too and while I LOVE it; it also makes me sad that all our beautiful foliage is coming to an end already.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful getaway! The room looks so nice and cozy too!
ReplyDeleteIt was! ... until our heater started smoking up the room early Monday morning! LOL. That's a story I talk about in my next post.
DeleteI have some friends that were up in Maine this past weekend camping and hiking and their pictures made me pretty jealous. looks awesome
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd want to camp there... but that's just me! LOL. I am NOT a camper but I really did love the hiking trails we found.
DeleteLooks so amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place! One of these days I hope to make it up that way! It's just beautiful this time of year!
