Encouraging Hearts and Home: Outdoor Living

We have hardly eaten outside all summer!  We used to eat out on the patio or deck at least once a week but this summer it just has not happened... I think we've eaten out once at home and maybe a handful of time at cookouts and family gatherings.  Mostly it's been the fault of the weather not cooperating but when I saw so many picnic, summer themed food, and nature themed posts at last week's party I found myself wishing for at least one more perfect day for eating out our patio.

And Now, It's Time for This Week's Encouraging Hearts & Home Blog Hop!

Join your Encouraging Hearts & Home Co-Hosts each week for encouragement and support for your heart & your home. We hope to provide a space that builds each other up and lends a helping hand along the way. With all the negativity in the world, let's shine a positive light!

  1. We haven’t eaten outside much at all this summer either. It is kind of a pity. We were going to grill this weekend, but it looks like it will be miserably hot and humid again. Maybe I need some fall outdoor dining plans instead!

  2. I'd like to eat outside more but we have such uncomfortable chairs on our deck (1st world problems, I know). Since summer is winding down, maybe we can find a good sale on some new outdoor furniture so it won't make our backs hurt to sit out there. lol. Thanks for sharing my post from last week on reasons to blog! I appreciate you hosting us here.

    1. Oh yes, this should be a great time to pick up some new patio furniture.

  3. I started out having my lunch outside everyday, but then it got into the 100 degrees that I had to stop. Hopefully soon, I can get out there again. Thanks for hosting, Joanne, and have a great week.

    1. I eat breakfast outside most days in the summer and occasionally my lunch but it's so much more work to eat dinner outside with all of us. And it has been so miserably hot here for much of it.

  4. Joanne,
We used to eat outside all the time when we had a larger patio but now, with the change in our weather that we frequently have dew points that are considered Tropical and temps in the 90's, it is just too comfortable to eat outside anymore... I cherish the air conditioning in my home!! LOL!
Thanks again for hosting this charming party every week! I know how much time goes into doing so and I want you to know that it I truly appreciate it!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  5. We haven't eaten outside a lot either! It's funny because it has been such a hot and sunny summer- not complaining at all but when it comes down to sitting down to eat, I think everyone is appreciating the coolness of the air conditioner #firstworldproblems

    1. Definitely! With my husband and older son working outside all day the last thing they want to do is eat dinner outside too.

  6. We haven't eaten dinner outside often this year. But I frequently eat my breakfast and even lunch on our screened-in patio. It's where I sit to do most of my computer work this time of year so it's a little bit of "eating at my desk," as well. But I love being out there.

    1. I eat my breakfast outside frequently on our deck and occasionally lunch out on our patio (since the deck shades it from the sun).

  7. Summer is so short that we have to grab the opportunity to picnic whenever we can!

  9. We don't eat outside often because we have four dogs that think our food is their food, too! It's also unbearably hot and humid here in Louisiana.

    1. We don't have that problem with dogs but we do have a few squirrels that have zero fear of approaching us when we're out on the deck!

  10. We eat outside as often as we can! Even when it's not that warm!

    1. My boys and I once ate breakfast outside in the middle of winter to watch the sunrise; it was fun but not something I'd want to do as often as I eat outside in the spring and summer.

  11. Absolutely love eating Al fresco. I love fall but I’m kind of sad this summer is almost over!

    1. Oh I am too; I love fall but I'm always so sad to see summer come to an end.

  12. We haven't eaten much outside either, but not for weather reasons, rather hubby has been utilizing the outdoor table as a workspace all summer so it's always covered in tools and stuff. I'm not gonna clean it off every time I want to eat outdoors. Hopefully next year!

    1. That makes it hard to eat outside for sure.

  13. Sigh. Just the other day, my husband and I were discussing the need for a new patio umbrella. Or maybe not. We rarely go out there and certainly don't eat out there like we once did. Why? I love eating outside. And our weather has been lovely the last couple of days. I think tonight is a good night for dinner outside:) Thanks for the inspiration!!:)

    1. We got rid of our patio umbrella because we kept getting wasps nests inside- and even worse a bat! in it. But we moved our patio table down under the deck and it makes a perfect spot to eat outside when the weather is nice.

  15. I love the idea of eating outside, but the bugs are a real drawback--mainly because I involuntarily jump at the slightest buzzing! And the sun is definitely not my friend. I guess what I really need is a sun room, haha!

    1. I find that bugs just love me waay to much and find me no matter where I hide! LOL. We used to have a sunroom in our old house and I loved it.

  16. That picnic bag is so practical and that watermelon juice looks great. We haven't ate outside as much as I would like either.

    1. I heard we had rain a few days this past week; our lawn is still totally brown and crunchy but it looks like we have some water back in our streams and rivers again.
