Monthly Musings: May 2022

It's the last Thursday of the month and time to link up with Holly and Patty for monthly musings.  This month we are looking at summer fashions.  I think quite a few of my answers are repeats from other Q&A posts and probably aren't very exciting but here goes...

1. Favorite summer footwear? So easy! My flip flops.  I have a good dozen pairs and I switch out which ones I'm wearing frequently but two of my favorites are Clark's brand and these cushiony Sketchers.

2. Favorite summer accessories? Practicality wise it has to be my sunglasses since I have such sensitive eyes but for fun it's definitely my earrings... pretty much the only accessories I wear in summer.

Even while swimming I wear sunglasses

3. Must have summer beauty products? Other than sunscreen I don't really use any beauty products.

4. Do you have a signature summer fragrance or perfumes? Year round I stick with Sunflowers (on the rare occasion that I actually wear perfume) mostly though I smell like bug spray all summer long since the bugs just can't seem to get enough of me.

5. Favorite summer outfit? I love my Lee Flex To Go Cargo shorts with a plain tee or tank top but I'm equally happy in capri pants a cute top.

6. Favorite sunscreen products? We tend to stick to Bare Minerals and Neutrogena products for the whole family.

7. Do you prefer a one-piece, tankini, or bikini swimsuit? I actually have one of each so which one I wear depends on what we'll be doing and how long I'll be wearing the swimsuit.  I'm most comfortable in my tankini though.

8. Do you keep your hair the same in the summer or switch up your style? My hair hardly changes at all from season to season or even year to year.  I do try to make sure it's long enough in summer to put it up in a ponytail though for those really hot days.

9. Favorite summer nail colors? Anything pink or pastel!  Mostly though I like to find some cute summer nail wraps.

10. Favorite summer lip colors? I don't wear anything but Chapstick or clear gloss.

  1. It's cold here at the moment in Australia, we are sitting around fires to keep warm at the moment.

    1. It's actually quite chilly here today too; not fireplace cold but jeans and sweaters cold.

  3. Funny: we use that same sunscreen and I wear my sunglasses all the time even just to keep my hair back. I think I only have one pair of flip flops that I use at the beach and pool but I don't know where they are right now.

  5. At home, I always wear those 99c rubber sandals, but I go through them so fast and was thinking maybe I should invest in something higher quality like yours.

    1. I actually can't wear those; for the longest time I thought I couldn't wear any flip flops at all as I always got blisters between my toes but my mother in law suggested I try a pair with cloth and a pair with leather between the toes. She bought me 2 pairs for my birthday one year and it's now become an annual tradition where each summer she buys me a new pair.

  6. I was pretty sure the questions were the same in the past so I decided to skip this one. I do need to buy more sunscreen!

    1. I feel like we never have enough sunscreen-- my husband keeps one in his truck, Alec had one in his track bag, and I need to get one for Ian to bring to work too, I keep one in my car and we like to keep a few down back on the patio for when we're in the water too.

  7. I prefer sandals to flip flops. I really hate that bit in-between my toes. I love my sunglasses, I couldn't do summer without them. Your nails are so pretty.

    1. I had a real hard time with flip flops too for years and preferred sandals but now I definitely prefer my flip flops.

  8. Sunglasses are a must! I couldn't agree more! I love those nail wraps. The ones with blue tones are beautiful... they remind me of watercolors.

    1. I have bought a few hats through the years but have a real hard time wearing them with my big hair always getting in the way. I'd love to keep my face out of the sun with one though and so I keep on trying different styles.

  11. The blue swimsuit is adorable; I love the one-shoulder look and wish I could wear it. Bugs also love me, so I can relate to smelling like bug spray :)

  14. We go to a resort between Cancun & Tulum 3x a year, so my "weakness" is tankinis and I have at least 20! I take different ones each time, plus a few extra bottoms (they stay wet longer when you're out of the pool but sitting) and I can also "mix & match). I also wear flip flops as long as possible (we live north of Dallas) and even have UGG flip flops to try to prolong the season! (the traditional tan suede with fuzzy underneath for the straps ~ if I wear longer boot-cut jeans, my feet stay warm for most of our winter). My favorite summer dresses have handkerchief hems ~ the perfect hem for "shorter" people ~ to combine a "midi" with a mini length ~ and most of my dresses are non-wrinkle, so I can roll them up in my suitcase to take with me to Mexico.

    1. What a great weakness to have! I have had fleece lined flip flops for more fall and winter wear before too.

  15. Once you find a way to keep the bugs from biting you, share!! I swear I have bites all summer long, and my husband?? NONE.

    1. Same! Usually as I am grumbling about being eaten alive my husband will look at me and ask "what bugs? They aren't bothering me."

  16. Those are just the cutest nail wraps! I love them! Also, those flip flops sound so comfy. I found Birkenstock's rubber sandals last year, and those are always my go-to now haha

  17. I rarely wear my sunglasses as I need new ones and I just haven't gotten round to ordering them. When I could wear contacts, I had a huge collection of them! Now, one pair...because they're so expensive!!

    1. That has got to be tough; I am so thankful I can still buy lots of pairs of cheap ones since I am just awful about not scratching/ breaking/ losing them.
