Pretty in Periwinkle with Ageless Style

This month's theme "Periwinkle" was based on Pantone's color of the year!  I love periwinkle but quickly realized that I don't own much in this color.  Then I started fretting that the few items I did have were either too purple or too blue and not really periwinkle enough.

I knew I was being obsessive and overthinking it so I threw together an outfit and headed out to photograph it on a warm(ish) day.

We did have to try a few different spots to get the lighting to work and the wind was wreaking havoc with my hair but that's okay.  I've learned to let go of perfection a long time ago.

I always wear a shirt under my sweaters and they almost always stick out a bit beyond the hem of my sweater.  I tend to like long shirts so that even if they ride up a bit when I'm moving they rarely, if ever, leave my bare skin exposed.

It's usually pretty cold here in the winter and I like to stay as warm as possible.

I paired my periwinkle sweater (and old style from Target that is no longer available!) with a similar toned undershirt, my distressed jeans, and calf boots. I also have some purple earrings and a tanzanite ring that I purchased on my honeymoon on but you can't see them in any of the pictures.

  1. It is a very difficult color to identify isn't it? And It's almost as if you have to have a color swatch with you when you go shopping in the store, or anything lavender or blue will start to look periwinkle to you. It's a very pretty sweater. I have a icy blue sweater I love to wear that's very similar to yours.

    1. Yes, I think having swatch would help a lot. Everything started to look blue after awhile.

  5. I always wear a tank as an undershirt and I like the layered look of the tank at the bottom!

    1. I like the layered look too. Especially if it's a bright white or contrasting color.

  6. LOVE those details on the sweater sleeves! So pretty! I have a sweater of a similar color also from Target and some years old, but didn't bring it up this season since I'm still trying to keep my closet at a minimal. I might have to dig it out soon though...
I always layer a tank top under my sweaters, on the coldest days I add a long sleeve shirt similar to yours over the tank top too. The extra layer is helpful as I don't like being cold!

    1. I have never thought to layer a long sleeve over a tank under my sweater; that would be a good way to get in one more layer.

  7. I love the details on your sweater: very pretty and I need to find a new pair of grey boots. Mine lasted forever but I had to chuck them this year. I miss them. Love your photo location!

  8. I know what you mean about the color. When I look at my sweater (which was described as periwinkle), I now think it's just a shade of light blue. But, I'm still going to call it periwinkle!

You look so pretty in blue. This sweater is really gorgeous with all of the details. I don't worry anymore about my shirts sticking out from my sweaters...I just say I intended it that way!

  10. That's exactly how I felt...we don't need to obsess over the exact shade of the color as long as we have something close. I love this sweater, and I'm shocked you don't also have on a scarf for warmth, haha.

  12. I love this sweater!!!! I too wear a tank top or something usually underneath my sweaters. I like layers and I like to feel nice and snug. These pictures are beautiful and it looks like fall still where you live.

    1. This was taken really early this month before our snowfall. It is definitely winter here... though we sure don't have as much snow as you do!

  13. Once again, we have very similar looks. Makes me smile. That is one pretty peri sweater. I like the thick cable knit.

  14. Love it! I love the ideas of sweaters, but I find a get too hot because I'm so hot natured.

    1. That rarely happens to me unless I'm cooking or something (but it does occasionally and that's when a shirt under it comes in handy).
