Friday Favorites: Two Week Wrap Up with Thanksgiving
I had this post 90% written just before thanksgiving but then forgot all about finishing it up and publishing it. I decided to just carry my Favorites over and add in this week's favorites too. We ended November with lots of family time and our December is off to a pretty good start. It has been cold and rainy so we haven't gotten out much but we do have plans to hike today
Friday Evan and I went hiking in the afternoon; we had one other family show up. It was a cold walk to the tri- state marker but we had fun getting to know this family better. I completely forgot to take photos though!
Alec's karate class was canceled on Saturday so I spent my morning wrapping gifts and addressing all my Christmas cards. I watched The Holiday while eating some chocolate covered popcorn and just enjoyed myself.
Saturday night my husband and I went out on a date night. We shopped at Best Buy (finishing up the bulk of the Christmas shopping) and then we went to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife. We thought it was really well done.
The whole family worked together to clean the house on Sunday. I was so thankful for all the help!
Evan and I made time to go hiking on Tuesday. It was a chilly 37 degrees but we bundled up and went anyway since the sun was shining.
Alec had a 1/2 day on Wednesday so after I got home from my hair appointment we made the chocolate chip pecan pie for Thanksgiving. (recipe here!). While he did that I put together a few floral jars for our dining table.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with my mom, step-father, and mother in law. It was a nice day so my husband and I went for a walk once most of the meal was prepped and ready and that allowed Alec plenty of time in the kitchen to make his homemade rolls. We ended the night watching Elf.
We decorated the whole house on Friday and my mother in law, mom, and step-father came back over for our leftover pie and to decorate the tree. We ended our night watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation while eating dessert. It was a wonderful way to start our weekend.
Saturday night we had another family movie night watching 8 Bit Christmas on HBO; it was fantastic! All about the main character's Christmas the year he tried everything to get his NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). Filled with all sorts of 80's nostalgia and a very cute story line too.
Evan and I had great check ups with the dentist on Monday. I hate getting my teeth cleaned but I do love our dentists and all their office workers.
The sun came out for about an or two hour on Thursday and Evan and I had just enough time to squeeze in a hike before picking up Alec from his 1/2 day of school.
Thank you for sharing that pecan pie recipe- it looks amazing as do all of your baked items- Alec's rolls look amazing too- sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving and start to the holiday season- woohoo!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteLove your wrap-up pics.
ReplyDeleteAnd you've got some beautiful hiking spots in your area.
We also went to see Ghostbusters last week :)
Thank you! We do have a lot of great places to hike.
DeleteMy mother in law makes a pecan pie that everyone loves! Looks like a couple of weeks!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great couple of weeks.
DeleteI cant wait to watch that 8 Bit Christmas... bring back all the fun 80's memories!
ReplyDeleteThat's how I felt! My boys were laughing at me as I yelled out things like "that's a Swatch Watch & I used to have those same jellied protectors for it!"
DeleteI've heard nothing but great things about Ghostbusters and 8-Bit Christmas!! We'll be watching 8-Bit Christmas soon over here!
ReplyDeleteIt was great!
DeleteThat's what I should do: watch a Christmas movie while wrapping! I don't enjoy it and have lots to wrap!

Yes! I try to make it enjoyable. I wrap while watching a movie and eating a special little snack.
DeleteYes to pecan pie. I love it. The Holiday is one of my favorite movies. Happy Friday friend.

Me too! Pecan pie is delicious!
DeleteThe pecan pie looks delicious and I haven't heard of adding chocolate. I usually play Christmas songs whilst we put up the tree and my husband, Mr M, is in charge of the wrapping. He does a much better job than me. It is a lovely time of year isn't it? Enjoy your Festive Season. I'm visiting from #weekendcoffeeshare and I'm sharing my Traditional Festive Baking. https://www.womenlivingwellafter50.com.au/my-traditional-festive-baking/
ReplyDeleteFor some reason my family does not enjoy listening to Christmas movies! So I listen in the car when I'm on my own.
DeleteOh how I love pecan pie. Your tree looks great. Now I really want to see 8 Bit Christmas. I hope you have the sweetest weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYes to all the yummy treats. I have been wanting to see the new Ghostbusters. Glad it was a hit. I can't believe you already started wrapping gifts. I need to get on that.
ReplyDeleteI typically don't wrap gifts quite this early in the season but I am loving having it done already!
DeleteI love that you've already been watching Christmas movies! We were going to start this weekend for our usual weekly family movie night but we are out both nights this weekend so it will have to be next weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great you're so organised and have done your cards and wrapped the presents too! I've sent my cards but still need to make a start on wrapping, eek!
Hope you have a good weekend ahead of you! Going to be a busy but fun one here with a few events!
Away From The Blue
Thank you! We try to get a jump on the season since things do seem to get busy fast.
DeleteWe might be going to a movie next week, so I'll add Ghostbusters as a possibility!! You are so incredibly organized Joanne,

Thanks! I am definitely not one to procrastinate.
DeleteWhat a cosy week you've had, with baking, hiking and Christmas prep! The pecan pie looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI just recently learned about that new Ghostbusters but I'm usually sceptical about spin-off movies. I might see it eventually though. I hope you'll have a lovely week!
Yeah, spin- offs rarely live up to the original. I can't say it was as good as the first movie but I did like that almost all of the original characters made some kind of cameo/ appearance.
DeleteIt sounds like you have done well in your prepping for Christmas and what a wonderful Thanksgiving you had.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGlad you had two wonderful weeks, including Thanksgiving. The flower arrangements, pie and rolls look amazing. Thank you for linking up with #weekendcoffeeshare.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne - Love your Christmas tree and your blue front door is gorgeous. I keep thinking about painting ours but my husband is a little reluctant and it stays "wood" coloured for now. And that pie still looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love that bright blue door too.
DeleteI love (and am jealous) that you get to do all that hiking! That pecan pie looks delicious! We still have to schedule a night for our annual family viewing of Elf! Hope you had a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeletePie looks awesome and I love the look of 8 bit Christmas. Really enjoyed ready player one, the book and the film so sounds like something that I should check out. Thanks for the share
ReplyDeleteOh I bet you would!
DeleteWhat a great two weeks.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Dawn
It really was.
DeleteI love your Thanksgiving flowers and tablecloth. And I don't think I've ever seen Elf. I have a lot of holiday movie watching to get to!
