Photos of the week: October 29th

 Oh boy did I struggle with this week's prompts for the I Spy photography challenge!  We had a really miserable, rainy week and I don't think I got out of the house at all so that just added to my challenge as I'm not usually motivated to take photos around the house.  


– scary-- Our hike on Friday was a bit scary; it was steep and the rocks and leaves were slippery with all the rain we've been having



– mend-- I've been meaning to mend this yo-yo blanket that my great grandmother made. 



– starts with G-- A bowl of grapes.


– spiral-- We topped the chocolate cake we made this week with chocolate spirals.

      Thanks! I have two completely different quilts that she made for me and I try to hardly ever use them because I am so afraid of ruining them.

    What fun prompts. You did well with them. That bit of your hike does look scary and I love the photo of the chocolate spirals. At first glance I thought they were wood shavings x

    You have gotten so much rain this year! Watch, next year you will have a drought. ha ha! Beautiful photos. I just went hiking today and the leaves on the rocks were so slippery!

    Oh yum the shot of the top of the cake is making me hungry!

    Even if you didn't get out much you did get some lovely photos of autumn with the hike and by the lake! I like seeing the leaves change colour, we don't really get that for autumn here in Brisbane!

    That quilt is beautiful. My great-grandmother was a quilter as well, and my parents have so many treasures from her.

      I have another one that she made special just for me all pink and white with little teddy bears and I just treasure them both.

    You found some great photo opportunities for the prompts, can't tell you were struggling! Slippery hikes really are scary. Early last spring we decided to do a spring hike, but there was still snow on the ground and we only hiked for a short distance because it was so slippery! Won't do that again!

      We went hiking one spring and when I slipped on the slushy snow I actually managed to pull a muscle in my lower back.

    I think you did well with the challenge. I am a bit scared on rocky slippery hiking paths these days. If I know it is going to be like that I take my hiking poles, which can be a bit of a hinderance when trying to take photos. Enjoy your week, stay safe and thank you for visiting my blog this week.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my ...

Making Gift Card and Money Holders Using Scrapbooking and Cardmaking Supples

I don't tend to keep a lot of crafting supplies on hand so when I saw this month's de-stash challenge I wasn't sure what I was going to make.  I finally realized that with so many of my Christmas gifts being cash and gift cards this year that I needed to make up some fun paper crafting/ creative ways to gift them.   I still want my nieces and nephews to have something to open so I pulled out my papers and stamps and made up some cute little money/gift card holders. They were much easier to make than I thought.  The first one I worked on was to hold some oversized Nintendo gift cards.  I made a standard sized card and folded down one corner of the card front.  Then I ran my double sided tape along the bottom an 1/2 way up the side creating a cute little pocket.  Finally I added some cute embellishments and ribbons.   Voila! Dollar Store Candy Cane Wreath

Making a Sugar Cookie "Gingerbread" House

 Alec really wanted to try making his own gingerbread house this year without using a premade kit.  We talked about how we never really eat the house since they don't taste very good.  Years ago we gave up on the frosting that comes in the kit and began making our own so we thought perhaps we should try making our our house too. Only problem is that no one in the house likes gingerbread.  We talked about trying to make the house using a sugar cookie recipe.  Alec was so excited at that idea since he just LOVES sugar cookies.   He found a recipe online for a simple sugar cookie recipe and mixed up the dough.  He rolled it out an cut it to the size of our cookie sheets-- we had read that it's easiest to cut the house pieces out after the dough has been baked and is still warm and soft because then you don't have to worry about any of the pieces losing their shape while baking.
