Monthly Musings: August 2021

I almost didn't pull this post together in time to share today.  I have been having such a hard time making myself focus and get down to blogging this week with so much else going on.  I didn't want to miss a link up with Holly and Patty though!

Since it's the last Thursday of the month it's time for Monthly Musings and this month is all about back to school & fall planning.

1. Do you meal plan and prep? YES!  I tend to plan a whole month out at a time and prep most of my meals in the morning so I can just throw them together at night or (once fall hits) toss them in the crock pot and forget about dinner until it's time to eat.

Some of our favorite back to school recipes & meals can be found in this post all about quick family dinners

2. How do you buy and organize school supplies? It depends on the supplies... our back to homeschooling supplies all get put on our bookcase in the office.

Alec's back to school uniforms are all organized in his closet; academic uniforms on one side and culinary uniforms on the other.

on the left: culinary hats, neckerchief & masks, pants and jacket.
on the right: khaki's, polo shirts, shorts, & gym uniform.

3. Any back to school traditions? Not really, when all three boys were homeschooling we used to enjoy a Not Back to School beach day and lots of other field trips all through September since we had parks and places pretty much to ourselves.  But since it's only the second year we've had anyone in traditional school we haven't established any traditions yet.

4. Bring lunch? Buy Lunch? Favorite lunchbox items? Alec always brings his lunch and packs it himself.  What he packs depends on if he's in shop or in academics since he has access to a microwave while in shop.  Our favorite item has got to be his Yeti. We bought him this nice slim size that fits right inside his lunchbox and keeps his iced tea nice and cold.

5. Favorite things about back to school then and now? My favorite thing about back to school time when I was in school was getting to pick out new clothes.  Now, I'm not so sure I have a favorite thing... maybe getting back into a routine?

6. Pumpkin spice... love or hate? It depends on the item itself but I usually like pumpkin spice.

7. Do you decorate for fall? Yes!  I love fall and tend to put lots of small touches throughout the house.

8. How do you transition your wardrobe to fall? I tend to start mixing in jeans and pants with all my summer tops and then as it gets cooler add in more long sleeves and sweaters... but I do try to keep those flip flops out for as long as I can!

9. Favorite fall fashion staples? My jeans, my boots, and my sweaters.

10. When does school start where you live? This year it starts on the 30th which is coming up quick!

    1. Thanks! They worked perfectly last year and then I can see at a quick glance when I need to do his laundry too so he never runs out of any clothing item.

  6. Don't know how you organise a month full of meals! Pretty good. I don't decorate for fall, but we don't decorate a lot here in the Netherlands.

    1. I pretty much only decorate for fall and Christmas and then just put up all season flowers/ neutrals the rest of the year and I don't decorate nearly as much as many others I know. I just love the colors of the fall and feel the need for some cheer with our long winters.
