Prime Purchases: Patio Edition

 Now that we've cleaned off the deck and patio and we're gearing up for warm weather, that will hopefully be arriving soon and sticking around for awhile, I headed to Amazon and ordered quite a few things to help keep us organized and comfy. 



We needed a new rug as the old one fell apart.  I ordered this one from Amazon and I just love the color and the material. It feels like it will hold up really well to the sun, sand, and water. 






We had an old grill basket for grilling vegetables outside but most of the non-stick coating had been scratched off.  We decided to try out this stainless steel basket for easier cleaning; without a non-stick coating I can wash it using our chainmail scrubber without worrying about ruining the finish. 





We had small storage cabinet on the patio that stores all our life jackets, sunscreen, etc. and it got destroyed this winter.  I knew I needed something to replace that and with the same approximate dimensions in mind I headed to Amazon. I found this great storage shed with shelves that I can not wait to arrive and put together. 



After Ian spent all winter repainting and making the old jet ski look like new we wanted to buy a cover for it.  We also needed a cover for the new jet ski we just got at the end of last season.  We have this one for the WaveRaider but we're still on the hunt for one that will fit the Sea Doo.  


I finally got annoyed with all the kayaks/ canoe/ paddles taking up so much space lying side by side on our patio that I broke down and bought a kayak storage rack. Ian put it together one afternoon and I just LOVE it! It's so well made and holds all 6 of our kayaks (we store my mom and step-father's kayaks here too).   It's on wheels for easy moving and the padded arms hold the kayaks secure. 



And while this was purchased last May as my Mother's day gift I did want to mention my favorite Amazon patio piece-- my hanging lounge chair.  It is so comfortable!

    The rug is lovely but my favourite is your storage shed, oh yes, I really need one of those. I like the chair too, but I'm not a sun lover so I wouldn't get much use out of it.

      Yes! I have my eye on a fishing rod station that organizes all the poles and tackle boxes but the one I want is not available right now. We must have a good 1/2 dozen of them floating around and I know my son was already talking about getting a new rod and reel with his birthday money.

    We had those very striped outdoor rugs. I loved them. But our very, very strong sun was hard on them. I bet they will last much longer for you.
    That hanging lounge chair would divine in MY backyard!! Going to check it out.

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Making Gift Card and Money Holders Using Scrapbooking and Cardmaking Supples

I don't tend to keep a lot of crafting supplies on hand so when I saw this month's de-stash challenge I wasn't sure what I was going to make.  I finally realized that with so many of my Christmas gifts being cash and gift cards this year that I needed to make up some fun paper crafting/ creative ways to gift them.   I still want my nieces and nephews to have something to open so I pulled out my papers and stamps and made up some cute little money/gift card holders. They were much easier to make than I thought.  The first one I worked on was to hold some oversized Nintendo gift cards.  I made a standard sized card and folded down one corner of the card front.  Then I ran my double sided tape along the bottom an 1/2 way up the side creating a cute little pocket.  Finally I added some cute embellishments and ribbons.   Voila! Making a Sugar Cookie "Gingerbread" House

 Alec really wanted to try making his own gingerbread house this year without using a premade kit.  We talked about how we never really eat the house since they don't taste very good.  Years ago we gave up on the frosting that comes in the kit and began making our own so we thought perhaps we should try making our our house too. Only problem is that no one in the house likes gingerbread.  We talked about trying to make the house using a sugar cookie recipe.  Alec was so excited at that idea since he just LOVES sugar cookies.   He found a recipe online for a simple sugar cookie recipe and mixed up the dough.  He rolled it out an cut it to the size of our cookie sheets-- we had read that it's easiest to cut the house pieces out after the dough has been baked and is still warm and soft because then you don't have to worry about any of the pieces losing their shape while baking.
