20 Facts for Our 20 Year Anniversary

My husband and I will be celebrating 20 years of marriage this week and in honor of that milestone I thought it might be fun to try and share 20 facts about us... And lots of wedding/ honeymoon photos!

1.  We met at some point in grade school and began dating between my 16th birthday and his.

2.  I am just shy of 3 months older than my husband.

3.  Our first official date was to the lake where we went boating-- kind of funny that we now live on that same lake!

Our wedding invitations-- so fitting!

4. We both were born in the hospital where our three boys were born and have always lived within just a few minutes drive of where we grew up.

5. My husband is the person that taught me to drive; I was terrified of driving and he was so patient.

6. My diamond is heart shaped and while I lost the stone in my original ring and had to get a whole new stone/ setting I refused to get anything other than another heart.

7. We got engaged at one of those all-inclusive resorts in the Pocono mountains when I was still in college.

8. We went on a Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon that my husband planned; it was wonderful!

9. We returned from our honeymoon, moved out of our starter home, and moved into an apartment in my parent's backyard so we could start building our dream home.

10. We have lived in that house for 18 years now (it was a lengthy building process).

11.  As soon as our kids were old enough to stay home alone we began running errands together and taking advantage of all sorts of mini day dates.

12. Our kids were only ever babysat by their grandparents which  means we never once paid for baby sitters!  (Well, to be fair I do think their aunts or uncles may have pitched in a time or two just like we have done for our siblings' kids).

13.  We have never watched any professional sporting events of any kind (other than the Olympics)-- in person or on TV.

14.  We have never been to a concert together; we've already established I've only been to two and I'm pretty confident in saying he's never been to any.

15. We've owned several cats through the years but never a dog or any other furry animal.

16.  We send flirty little texts to each other during the day when we're apart and hold hands when we're side by side.

17. We have only ever owned Chevy/ GMC vehicles.... and have never had a car payment.

18. We try to get away at least once a year for a long weekend (or even a whole week once or twice!) just the two of us.

19. Our very first vacation together was while we were in high school; I accompanied his whole entire family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) to Old Orchard Beach, Maine.  We've been back to Maine almost yearly ever since (sometimes back to OOB, sometimes to York or Kittery or Freeport).

20. Neither of us drink alcohol but my first sips of alcohol were given to me by my mother in law just 4 days shy of my 21st birthday at his family's annual summer cookout at the lake.

  16. Happy Anniversary, Joanne! This was so fun to read and I love all the photos! You know, we have never paid a babysitter either relying only on grandparents and the occasional friends who we traded babysitting duties with! Childcare is expensive and I think babysitting is even more so. Cheers to 20 more years of wedded happiness, my friend!
