Friday Favorites: A Teasing of Spring
We had some lovely spring-like weather this week and we tried to get outside as much as possible and enjoy it.
As soon as I dropped Alec off at school on Friday, I went and waited for the blood lab to be open to get my blood work done. I came home and the boys and I set right to work on their schooling. We were done by 11 and Ian headed out to work on moving more tree stumps. I worked on getting the last of the bedding cleaned.
After picking Alec up from school we also picked up a grocery order from Stop & Shop and picked up books from the library. Evan and I went for walk just before dinner and he talked me into getting take out.
My mother in law took Alec out to dinner and dropped off a puzzle for me!
Alec had karate on Saturday. Two new students joined his class and the time just flew by. Once home I spent my afternoon in my craftroom making cards. I am loving playing around with these new sets. We have a few birthdays coming up in our family so I made birthday cards too.
Sunday morning I headed out to the woodworking shop with my husband to work on the countertops. We went to his machine shop to get a huge piece of metal to lay all the bits of boards out on so we could see what the countertop would look like before we glued it together... and I totally forgot to snap a photo of the 1/2 we laid out.
Alec made some vanilla cupcakes for a Pinterest challenge post we're working on- we're going to make fairy garden cupcakes.
Monday morning Alec had school and I headed to the grocery store on my way home to pick up some ingredients for making frosting. As soon as I finished school with Evan and Ian I whipped up some frosting and got the cupcakes frosted. I also made some banana bread.
After school Ian washed my car and then Alec and I settled down to make some fondant decorations for the cupcakes. It was Alec's first time making fondant and he did a great job. I have a full post about these coming up on Tuesday the 16th with even more pictures.
With Alec off at school and Ian off at work on Tuesday, Evan and I flew through his schoolwork and then headed out on a hike. We hiked for an hour and a half before heading home for some lunch. It was just SO beautiful out!!
I went for another short walk in the afternoon and I didn't even have to put on a coat.
Wednesday morning we woke to a beautiful sunrise. All three boys were home for school and were finished up by noon; which was perfect since Evan had an MRA scheduled for 12:30 at our local hospital. (Just like an MRI but with focus on the veins). Hopefully we'll get some answers next week about the ringing his ears.
As soon as were done at the hospital we went to the local park to meet up with some friends. It was chilly but it was so nice to see them.
Ian headed off to work on Thursday and Alec settled himself in the living room for another day of virtual schooling. Evan and I flew through his work and then headed out to find him some new sneakers. We bought his current pair nearly a year ago and boy are they getting tight!
I suggesting breaking in his new shoes with a nice hike when we were done. It was 70 out; 70! We were actually hot and sweaty by the time we finished but enjoyed nearly 2 hours out on the trails.

ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous there and also thawing away too. It was over 60 degrees several days this week, so Ellie and I went for several two mile walks. We actually watched the progression of a lake near us go from completely frozen to not, and it was magical. Spring is almost here. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, muddy and wet but I'll take that over icy and frozen! Our lake has almost zero ice left as of this morning.
DeleteThat's the first time with fondant? That's amazing!!!!
ReplyDelete& tell Ian he can come wash my car too :)
I love that puzzle - I love a colorful one
We worked with fondant a bit during the cupcake class we took earlier this month but this was the only time we made our own and really sculpted things with it!

I am planning on watching Coming 2 America soon. I loved the first one I hope the 2nd one is just as good.
Those cupcakes are just adorable. Great work. x
I honestly thought that the 2nd movie wasn't nearly as good as the first.
DeleteWhat a creative week. I love your card designs and the cupcakes look yummy. We are heading into Autumn where I live although on the Gold Coast in Australia, the winters are very mild. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for coffee. #WeekendCoffeeShare
ReplyDeleteThank you! I would love to wear somewhere that winters were mild. I think part of why I love spring and summer so much though is that winter is very cold.
DeleteGreat card and cupcake creations! We also had nice and sunny weather this week. Next week it looks like we'll back to seasonal temperatures and still sunny. Thank you for your coffee share. #WeekendCoffeeShare
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for hosting.

DeleteHi Joanne - I loved those decorated cupcakes and also all the beautiful nature shots. You can see Spring creeping in - and it must be such a nice feeling for you after all the cold weather.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a wonderful feeling. I try to embrace all 4 seasons we have here in New England but winter is definitely my least favorite and seeing signs of spring makes me so happy.
DeleteYour cards are so pretty and those cupcakes look amazing!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteGorgeous hikes and adorable cupcakes. Your son has real talent.

Thank you! They tasted great too and eating so many of them led to more and more hiking.
DeleteI LOVED the spring weather we had last week and can't wait to read more about those cute cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteI was loving that weather.. now we're back to freezing cold and ice. But I keep thinking it's just a matter of time before it is warm permanently.
DeleteSpring has certainly been a snarky little tease this past week! It was so nice for like 2 1/2 days here and now it is bitter cold again. Those cupcakes are so fun, and as always, I love all of your landscape photos! Thanks for linking.
