Making a Fall Sign Using the Cricut

Today I am joining up with a few other crafting bloggers to share some fall craft and decor ideas.  I decided to make a sign using my Cricut.  I had found this perfectly sized wooden sign at the craft store and scooped it up a few months ago for when inspiration struck.

I found this free SVG file and just knew it would be perfect. I had to tweak it a bit since the image was more square and my surface was a rectangle but with a bit of resizing and a few extra leaves and pumpkins it was just perfect.

I rifled through my vinyl drawer and picked out 4 coordinating colors to use. In hindsight I really wish I had not picked out the lighter brown as it doesn't show up well against the wood but I didn't have anything in a nice sage green color like I really wanted.

I cut out my images using the Cricut.

Weeded them all and cut them apart.

I placed them where I thought I'd want them and then used transfer tape to move everything over to the sign.

I cut a slit in the vinyl whenever it went over one of the slats and pressed each sign down to  meet in the groove.

Since I was using the sign inside I didn't bother to put any sort of sealant over it.

  11. Love your sign and the mantle looks beautiful! I have an old, old Cricut, the one that uses font cartridges. I'm looking forward to upgrading soon. Did you compare the Cricut and Silhouette models before you chose your Cricut? I need to do some research.

    1. My husband surprised me with the Cricut Maker for Christmas. I was pretty intimidated jumping to that from my old Cricut (with the cartridges!) but after watching a few videos and just giving it a shot I did find that it wasn't nearly as intimidating as I had originally feared.

    1. I bought a larger mat on Amazon hoping to cut out some larger images without having to break them into multiple pieces. It comes in handy for cutting out more than one color too though.
