Friday Favorites: One week Post Op

This is going to be a pretty boring weekly wrap-up/ Friday favorites post since I haven't left the house at all.  Post-op is going pretty well but I am trying so hard not to overdo it.

I spent most of my day in bed on Friday too still recuperating from my surgery.  Alec headed out to school.  Ian was heading out for a 2 hour driving lesson with his driving instructor.  I spent most of the morning resting, watching TV, reading, and napping.  I did make a card for my husband in the afternoon.

For dinner we heated up a Sheppard's pie I had in the freezer.  For the first time since Sunday night I joined the family around the table and even managed to lie in the recliner and watch a whole movie with them.

I slept right through until 6 am on Saturday morning; skipping my Motrin dose by almost 2 full hours!  I took that as a good sign.  It was such a beautiful day but I spent 90% of it in bed.

After breakfast Ian and my husband headed out to pick up our "new" jet ski (do you remember the one we owned for a weekend back in June? Well, the company we bought it from finally decided it was fixed! and they went to pick it up).

After test driving it ourselves we pulled both jet skis out of the water to get them winterized.

Alec baked up a Tollhouse pie for my husband's birthday dinner.  We were going to be celebrating with his mom later that night and while he was making his own dinner of burgers and tater tots we figured we could at least make him a scrumptious dessert.

I did get dressed and walked outside for a bit; just around the yard but it still felt great to get out of the house and get some fresh air.

I was feeling even better on Sunday and worked on a few craft projects as well as my blog.  I even felt good enough to get the pot roast going in the crock pot.

My girlfriend stopped by in the afternoon to drop off some food for us-- a few mini pot pies, a lasagna, some homemade sauce and dropped of a beautiful mum for me too.  She stayed for just a bit and we chatted.  It was so nice to see her but I definitely needed to lie down and rest by the time she left.  It's amazing how fast my energy gets zapped.

By dinnertime I was feeling good enough to help Alec prepare the butternut squash and potatoes to go with our roast.  It felt almost normal to be preparing dinner again.

I must have overdone it on Monday though since my whole body was aching by dinnertime.  I had spent most of my day sitting near Alec to help him complete his schoolwork and while I felt fine to do that by bedtime I was running a low grade temp.

I did work on my blog and take a few photos from my bedroom window in the late afternoon. The lake is just stunning this time of year.

Evan cooked dinner for us heating up some sauce my girlfriend had made and making some pasta and ravioli to go with it.

I was determined to take it easy again on Tuesday but did help Alec with some schoolwork and managed to get a load of laundry done (while having Evan help me with any lifting involved) and even boiled up some hard boiled eggs for my husband for the week.

Alec got bumped into honors Algebra!  I thought he had been working through the program quickly and easily.  This should be more challenging for him and helps set him up for earning college credits in high school as well.

My husband and Ian were off for another driver's ed. class (and my husband has been doing groceries while Ian's at class) so it was just the three of us at home.  I was in bed with another low grade temp and unable to get it together for dinner.  Alec and Evan ended up going to eat at Panera Bread with my mother in law and I just had some soup for dinner.

I spent the majority of my day in bed on Wednesday.  These low grade temps while not all that alarming are completely sapping me of strength.

Alec came up once to show me his science test/score; he's doing so well with virtual learning and all it's frustrations.  He had a good day of school and then both him and Evan worked on cleaning the upstairs for me. Alec headed out in the late afternoon with my mother in law to his outdoor karate class which they managed to have despite rain storms in our area.  Luckily the wind and thunder/lightening held off until the drive home and they do have a pavilion to use to stay dry.

Evan and I walked to get the mail and back-- s-l-o-w-l-y.  All the campers are packed up and moved out for the season and it's so quiet!

My husband made waffles and bacon for dinner with some fresh cut fruit.

I ended up on the phone with the on-call doctor Wednesday night when my low grade fever went over 100.4-- the magic number they had given me at the hospital.  After going through a whole list of questions her best guess was that there is no underlying infection and that I could wait to be seen at the doctor's office on Thursday and skip a trip to the ER.  Phew!

Alec headed off to school on Thursday; he gets to spend two full days in each of his three favorite shops during this rotation and he was so excited to be back in the building.  He spent the day in Sustainable Architecture putting together a computer model of The Burrow from Harry Potter (which they'll build an actual 3-D model of tomorrow).

I put together some chicken noodle soup in the crock pot for dinner and made up a batch of no-knead bread too.

The doctor's office decided not to see me since I had no fever of any kind (by the time they called). That reinforced both our belief that this can't be caused by an infection & I already had an appointment scheduled for Friday as a recheck anyway.  Best guess-- it's just my body's way of coping with surgery and getting the rest it needs.

    1. I thought it was going to be so much more fun and restful than it was! LOL It's hard to just rest and sit and still be a mom. All the boys were so helpful but still needed help with things this week and I hate asking someone else to take over for me and give that help to them.

  3. Recovering is the worst. Continue to take it easy! I remember after my c-section with Autumn I went to the store with my MIL (since I still wasn't allowed to drive) for a short trip. I wore Autumn in a carrier and regretted it the next day. I'm glad that the fever wasn't anything to be worried about. I hope you share the Burrow!! :)

    1. It was delicious; though I only got one 1/2 slice of the pie! The rest of the crew gobbled it right up before I had another chance to have any.

    1. My anxiety has found other outlets this week! Lol. I just knew that low grade fever aside I felt so good and I figured with an infection I'd start feeling awful.

    1. I'm equally parts amazed and frustrated at how well recovery is going. I know I have surpassed everyone's expectations with how well I am recuperating but I am so bad at just resting and relaxing and not doing too much.

  13. I'm glad you're doing ok and not pushing yourself too much. That's always the hardest part for me, taking it easy. We used to have Jetskis and loved riding them! I could see us getting them again when the boys are a bit older. Soup is one of my favorite things during this time of year. I hope you have a nice weekend and can rest some more.

  16. Yes, my guess would be that you had done to much. And that your body said it needed rest. That is hard to do with a family that needs you I think. That view from your bedroom is so amazing, so relaxing. Never would get enough of that!

  18. Was holding my breath all the way through this post. Hope your fever is gone for good. That scares me!! If it comes back, I think you need to be seen. Dr. Clingan, here!!

Stunning photos from your window. That water is so still it is like glass. What beautiful reflections on it. Those fall colors.

So glad your fellows are stepping in to cook and help with chores. Hope this week you are feeling much, much better.

  21. Recovery happens in its own good time even when we really think we are in charge. Resting is helping you heal. I know, you know...but it is true! I had great news last week...after my wound surgery (after the abdominal wound from earlier surgery in July opened) and in 6 weeks and 1 day, everything was healed. Unreal! I got teary. I am still a bit sore on the inside but that will be months to get better...but no more dressing changes and showering every day..such simple things much more appreciated. Take care, I know it is tough!

Thank you for linking up for LifeThisWeek and I hope you join in again next week, where the optional prompt is 42/51 Self-Care Stories #6. 19.10.2020. Denyse.

    1. I am already able to shower each day and all my dressings have come off (and can stay off) so that's a step in the right direction. I do feel stronger and better everyday but know that even if I feel pretty good I am still healing and need to take it easy-- something I'm not very good at doing!

  22. I am so glad to hear that you are recovering nicely, Joanne, and that you have friends and family taking good care of you! A very happy birthday to your husband! And what gorgeous views. I wouldn't mind staying in bed all day if I could look out the window at that beauty! Thanks for linking with me.
