Simple Fall Pleasures

I wrote this blog post years ago about embracing the simple life.  It was based on the song by Ella Fitzgerald that plays in the Father of the Bride movies.  We had just started homeschooling and I was noticing how much simpler our life was and yet how much more we were enjoying it too.

Since I wrote that post in summer it listed all the simple things we had been enjoying during that season and I just knew that with this week's 26 lists focusing on simple pleasures I wanted to do the same type of thing but with a fall twist.

Here are some of our simple pleasures for fall:

Wearing thick, warm sweaters and comfy boots

Hiking in the woods & watching the leaves change colors

Picking apples and making our own caramel apples

Playing board games & putting together puzzles

Enjoying a fire in the fireplace on cool evenings

Cook up some fun new fall desserts and recipes.

Watching movies together

Eating dinner as a family with comfort foods like soups, stews, casseroles, and fresh bread

Burning fall scented tarts and candles (see my list of favorite fall scents here)

Curling up with a cozy blanket and reading a good book

Don't be surprised if you see most of these things winding up on our fall bucket list too.

    1. We woke up to fall-like weather this week for sure... it was only 45 this morning! It is warming up into the 70's most days and I'm braced for a second coming of summer that we often get just as I think fall is here for good.

  8. Great prelude to your fall bucket list!! I am ready for cooler temps, snugly sweaters, boots, fires in the fire pit or fireplace. So glad homeschooling translated to a simpler life for you. I am longing to return to my quieter pre-Covid life. Love helping with my darling granddaughters but every day is too much.

    1. OH I bet! I get exhausted being around my young nieces and nephews; it's so easy to forget just how much energy they have at that age.

  10. I always dread fall because it means the end of summer and a long, cold winter lies ahead, but there really is a lot of good things about fall. It's just a very short for us in Wisconsin.

    1. Our fall tends to vary; the past few years we've had real mild winters so our fall seemed longer but other years we can get snow quite soon and that usually takes down the leaves and makes for a very short fall.
