The 10 Best Things About Summer

I don't know about you but I just LOVE summertime!  I always have.  While I am not a huge fan of the super hot days that we can have in summer there is something about a sunny day that just makes me smile.

My summers are always pretty laid back and we spend lots of time by the lake or in the pool, reading books, and just hanging out.  To me, summer has always equaled fun so I was pretty excited when I saw that this month's 10 on the 10th's was all about our summer favorites.

I'm going to have such a hard time narrowing it down to just 10!!

1.  Flip flops-- by far my favorite shoes are my flip flops and I try to wear them starting as early as I can and keep wearing them until just about the first snowfall of the year.

2.  Ice cream and all sorts of frozen treats-- There is nothing better on a hot day than something cool to eat.  Last year I swapped out most of my ice cream consumption with frozen yogurt bars but every now and then the real thing just hits the spot.

3.  Books!!-- While I love reading year round there is something about a great beach read that just makes my heart so happy.

4.  Beach days with friends-- (or family!).  While my boys and I don't love lying on the beach all day we do enjoy a fun beach day walking around in the water, getting ice cream from the ice cream truck, and searching for sea life. Plus there is nothing quite like the sound of the waves crashing against the shore and the scent of that salty sea air.

5.  Days on the lake-- In a boat, on the jet ski, out on the kayak; being on the lake is always a fun way to pass the time.

6.  Cookouts and time with friends-- Living on the lake we tend to host a lot of summer get together and since I prefer hanging out with small groups of people we often break them into smaller parties rather then one or two large parties.

7.  Late nights outside by the fire-- We don't often think to get fires going in our fire pit but when we do we are content to gather around it until well past dark.

8.  Vacations and/or Day tripping-- Mostly we stick to day trips in the summer and hold off on our family vacations for early fall but there is something about summer that always makes me think of family fun and escaping our reality even if it is for just one day.

9. Long days capped off with beautiful sunrise and sunsets-- I love nature and watching the beautiful colors that appear most every morning and evening make me so happy.

10.  Cute and comfy clothes that help beat the heat-- When it's hot I tend to reach for shorts, capri pants, tank tops, and tee's to keep cool.

How about you? What would make it onto your top 10 list?

    1. Yep, that sums it up nicely! We tend to be the friends' lake house that everyone comes to but that's just fine by me.

  5. Such great summer favorites, although I'm probably the only person on earth that can not walk in flip flops. LOL. And honestly I find them not very comfortable.
But that ice cream cone looks delicious and the romper looks great on you!

    1. I never liked flip flops at all and then a few years ago my mother in law bought me two very expensive pairs for my birthday and asked me to try just wearing them around the house for a week and if I dind't like them she promised to return them. Well, I fell in love with them and have never looked back. But I still can't wear any cheap ones as I get blisters between my toes quite easily.

  8. Your outfit there (#10) is cute! I can't wear flip flops super well but I do like summer shoes (um, sandals)! :) And I agree, walking at the beach (and getting ice cream) makes a much better beach day than simply lying on the beach!

  9. Yes to all of those! Today the British weather has rewound to winter - boy is it chilly today and the sky is an ominous grey colour ... It must be lovely to live somewhere where you have almost guaranteed warm days and sunshine!

  11. Yes, Yes, Yes!!! Great list. Ditto everything on it. Wish we had a lake close. And a beach!!
Glad you mentioned books as I seem to read more in the summer for some reason. Seems like
    the opposite would be true.

You are looking just precious in that romper.
    Thanks for joining me!

  12. Oh I love all of these things about easy summer living as well. I feel like we started summer vacation 3 months ago though! Haha. Although this week is the last week of my kids’ school so I can finally put an end to that daily struggle and enjoy the summer! Thanks for sharing and linking up with me.
