Our Christmas Bucket List-- How We Did

It's a bit weird to be wrapping up our Christmas bucket list before Christmas has officially arrived but I plan on taking some time off from blogging and wanted to make sure I wrapped everything up before I did since I'll be sharing my winter bucket list when I come back.

1.  Tour another one of the Newport mansions and see all the Christmas decorations-- Check!  We went to the Breakers mansion this time.  You can read all about the decorations here.

2.  Decorate the house-- Check!  You can see our home tour here.

3.  Bake Christmas cookies-- Check!  You can find our recipe for upside down Buckeye cookies here.  We also made a Yule Log.

4.  Make a few fun crafts-- Check!  I made some fun crafts anyway.  The boys weren't very interested in crafting this year.  You can find directions for the shadow box here.

5.  See some holiday lights-- Check!  While we never went out with the intention of just driving around to see Christmas lights we spent a lot of time in the car after dark and saw quite a few really nice displays!

6.  Watch Christmas movies as a family-- Check! We watched Elf, the younger boys, my husband and I watched the newest Grinch movie, Ian and I watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and Evan and I watched Christmas With the Kranks.

7.  Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa-- Check!

8.  Get a fire going in the fireplace-- Check!

Snuggled under the blanket with a fire going watching Elf

9.  Put together a family puzzle-- Check!  We just finished it on Saturday.  It's such a pretty puzzle.

10.  See a holiday play or production-- Check! Alec and I went to see some friends of our perform in a Christmas Concert.  It was wonderful.

11.  Attend a holiday party or two-- Check! We kicked off the holiday season with a family party this weekend at my in-law's house.

12.  Make a gingerbread house together-- Check! We actually ended up decorating two as Alec and Ian each had their own.

I think this is one of the few times we managed to get everything on our list done!  I think short and sweet is the way to go; plus only having a month to do it all in really helped keep me focused.

  6. You guys smoked this list!! Wow, wow, wow!! So proud of you. I can't wait to make the gingerbread houses. I think it will be great fun. One daughter is married to a sweet guy from Afghanistan and the other daughter is married to a sweet guy from Mexico. I don't think gingerbread houses are something they will have done before. Heck, I am true blue all-American and I haven't made one. Should be a good time!!!

Wish you lived next door and we could work jigsaw puzzles together. I threw my winter one out. Had put it in a puzzle roll to keep it in place but some of the pieces fell out and I am sure we lost some. My Prince C. refuses to work one with me. But my girls are coming home for the holidays...maybe now is the time to get a new one and have them help.

Love the buckeyes. Had planned to make the traditional ones but might try your recipe instead.
    Merry Christmas.

    1. That will be so fun decorating houses with so many other cultures involve with you! What a great tradition to start.

My oldest son is the only one who will work on a puzzle with me; I did throw away our puzzle from the fall as it had really odd shaped pieces and after working on it for over a month we had hardly any of it put together, but this one was perfect.

      Merry Christmas!
