My September Reading

I had another great month of fun reading!  I managed to tackle a few of them on my kindle too; I make sure to pick my free Kindle First read each month but am pretty awful about actually reading them.  This month I tried so hard (and failed!) to only read books that were on my Kindle.

1.  Blessing in Disguise by Danielle Steel-- Isabelle's life didn't turn out quite the way she expected.  The book begins with Isabelle reflecting back on her life and how she ended up with three so very different children by three very different men.  Her business is thriving and she pours her heart and soul into it, but when a medical issue crops up she decides to hire a personal assistant and Jack ends up being such a blessing in disguise.

2.  The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry-- When a young child is found abandoned and with years worth of scars she's brought to the hospital where Dr. Christopher Bauer bonds with her and convinces his wife Hannah to adopt her.  The couple had been struggling with fertility for years and this seems like the perfect solution. But Janie is no ordinary child and while she is fiercely loyal to Christopher she is less than perfect for Hannah.

3.  Life After Perfect by Nancy Naigle--  Katharine (Katy) always thought she had the perfect life... then one day her entire world collapses in an instant and Katy decides to hit the road. She finds herself in Boot Creek, North Carolina where she finds herself drawn to local doctor and volunteer fire fighter Derek Hansen.

4.  Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine-- When a car plows into Gina Royal's house one afternoon her whole world shatters.  On the run with her two kids, Gina struggles to keep them all safe.  When she finds herself in a lovely home on Stillhouse Lake she thinks they might finally be able to put down roots.  But the past is slowly catching up with her and she has to decide whether it's better to keep on running or stand up and fight back.  I had no idea this was the first book in the series... and it ended on a cliff hanger!  I read the book in under 48 hours because I just HAD to know how it ended.  I will definitely read the others in the series but need a break from all the creepy stuff.

5.  The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren-- I saw this cute book listed on a few other blogs I read and follow and thought it sounded like the perfect light and fun book after reading Stillhouse Lake.  Olive finds herself on her sister's honeymoon trip with the best man Ethan after everyone else at the wedding comes down with a horrible case of food poisoning.  Olive and Ethan fight like cats and dogs but call a truce to enjoy the trip together.

6.  The Big Kahuna by Janet & Peter Evanovich-- I have been a fan of Janet Evanovich books for years and when I saw the latest Fox and O'Hare book at our library I knew I had to scoop it up.  Fox and O'Hare are hunting down a missing silicon valley tycoon known as The Big Hakuna

7.  Gemstone by Barbara Delinksy-- When Sarah attends a funeral she's surprised to see that her ex-husband needs and wants her help.  He needs someone to act as his wife so he can adopt a baby but she's not sure she can pretend to be married to him for a whole year once she realizes she's still in love with him.

8.  Under Currents by Nora Roberts-- Zane and his sister appear to live the idyllic life but under the surface their family life is not all it seems.  When it all comes to a head one night and family secrets are revealed, Zane and his sister find their lives forever changed.  Just as they feel they have put the past behind them for good and are settling into adulthood those under currents rise back up and threaten to drown them. This was a powerful story and I just loved it!

9.  The Opposite of Me by Sarah Pekkanen-- Lindsay and her fraternal twin sister Alex have always been complete opposites.  Lindsay was the typical overachiever reaching for lofty goals in New York City while Alex has gotten by on good looks and a fun personality.  But when Lindsay falls short of her goals and finds herself living back home with her parents the family dynamics shift and Lindsay realizes that Alex life might not be perfect either.  When struggles bring these sisters together they form a bond that they had never been able to do when they were younger.

  1. I don't read books at all so I'm so impressed you're reading so many in a single month.

    1. I tend to read a lot of fiction and should probably toss in more non-fiction (though I do get plenty of that with all the school books I read with/to the boys).

  4. I have The Unhoneymooners and hope to read it soon! I read a book by Rachel Caine this month which I didn't like at all, but I still want to read Stillhouse Lake.

    1. I found Stillhouse lake to be a bit darker and a more intense than I'd usually like but I was really compelled to see what happens with this family and know I have to read the others... maybe one per month..

Wow! I'm impressed and inspired with both the amount of reading you have done and your book list. I too love to read but unfortunately have let other things interfere the last two months. This post has given me some new titles to look for at the library. I've been wanting to read some of Janet Evanovich's books. Are they more like a mystery or drama?

    1. Janet Evanovich's books are mostly funny with a bit of action/ romance involved. There is usually some mystery to her books too.
