Hiking at Custer State Park

After a full night of rain and wind we woke to cool temperatures on our last full day in Rapid City and decided to finally check out some hiking trails at Custer State Park.  We hiked the Sylvan lake trail with the Sunday Gulch Trail extension. 



We spent several hours completing the hike and had some pretty amazing views for most of the hike. 





Along the lake the path was flat and smooth.



We crossed these stepping stones to see the dam then headed back across them to start our official hike.



There were all kinds of nooks and crannies and rock formations to hike around and walk through.






We saw this adorable deer that seemed quite content to watch us.


There were some really amazing views on our hike.







We found that the end of our hike brought us by a lot of water; we had bridges to cross and rock formations to climb up (that were wet and slimy!) .  We were so thankful for the metal handrails.





Once we made it back to the lake we rested.






Alec and my husband took off to climb just one more rock.


By the time we finished the boys were all begging for some lunch.  We headed into Keystone for some shopping and stopped at a pizza place for lunch.  It was such a cute town and it was nice to relax after our morning hike.

    What a great trip! We have the most amazing State Parks in the US. I need to visit them more often!

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? Dollar Store Candy Cane Wreath

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6.
