Driving from Cheyenne to Rapid City

After a wonderful night's sleep at The Plains hotel in Cheyenne we ate our complimentary breakfast and headed out bright and early for our drive to Rapid City, South Dakota.  Cheyenne was gearing up for a road race and we wanted to make sure to beat the crowds out of the city.

We had no problems finding the highway and enjoyed another day of beautiful scenery; complete with prairie dogs and even some bison!

I just could not get over how flat everything was and just how far we could see!

At one point we lost all cell reception and could only find 2 radio stations to listen to!

The further we drove north the more we started seeing mountains and plateaus.

  2. Wow, you can see miles and miles! When you live in a city or suburb, it's hard to imagine such wide open space and only 2 radio stations!

    1. We were definitely amazed at the differences; in New England there are so many trees and hills and bends in the road you're often lucky if you can even see your neighbor just a few feet away.. Here they can't see their neighbor because they really do live that far apart from one another!

    1. I said something like that too and my husband reminded me that they don't call them the great plains for nothing.
