Where We Stayed, Ate and Explored-- Loon Mountain Trip Part 1

My husband and I waited until the week before Memorial Day to book a little getaway for just the two of us.  We finally settled on visiting Loon Mountain and stayed at the RiverWalk.  It was an amazing hotel!

We booked a studio suite.  We had a queen bed, pullout sofa, flat screen TV, a small table  chair set and even a cute little kitchenette.

The cabinets were stocked with glasses, dishes, bowls and more

The bathroom was so clean and everything in our room looked like new!

We had a really pretty view of the mountain too from our balcony (even if we were overlooking the parking lot).

Not knowing how the weather would be, we picked this resort because of all its' amenities: a heated pool and hot tub, exercise room, arcade, on- site restaurant, spa.. the list goes on and on.  We even learned that you can ask at the front desk for games and sporting equipment!  They had two and three bedroom suites too that would have been perfect for the whole family.

Luckily we had beautiful weather all three days and spent most our time out and about exploring.

We had some of the best meals ever in this small New Hampshire town!

The first night we tried to eat at this burger place &  we were told they had over an hour wait; we went back the next day for a very late lunch/early dinner and got right in.  By far it was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten!  I got the teriyaki burger that came with grilled pineapple it was so flavorful.

When we couldn't get into the burger place we walked over to Gordi's Fish and Steakhouse (which also had a 45 min wait!-- but we were told in the fall/winter they typically have a wait time of an hour and a half to two hours!!). It was well worth the wait.  Everything from the fresh baked bread & whipped butter to the steaks, shrimp, and even fresh vegetables was unbelievably good.

We often ate a large breakfast to fuel us up for a day of hiking and then didn't eat again until nearly dinner time.  Flapjacks Pancake House had one of the best pancakes I have ever eaten! I ordered the cinnamon bun and my cinnamon flavored pancake was topped with a delicious white syrup just like those found on most cinnamon buns.  Portion sizes were huge and all the food passing by our table looked so good.  Even bright and early in the morning there was a small wait to get seated; again it was so worth the wait!  We sat at a window seat overlooking a beautiful little garden with a water feature too.

The one day we did want some lunch we stopped at the White Mountain Bagel company and had some delicious freshly made sandwiches.  I had turkey, lettuce, and tomato on a ciabatta roll and it did not disappoint.  I was so disappointed that we never made it back there to try their bagels and wonderful breakfast menu; the one day we tried the entire lot was full--- with a few people even parked alongside the building and on the street.

We had such great luck with finding such excellent food in this small town that I found myself wishing we had a few days to try a few more!

We explored the Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves, the Flume Gorge/ Franconia Notch, the views from the top of Cannon Mountain, and the Polar Caves (These places will all get their own post)

We went miniature golfing at the Hobo Railroad

Hiked the Serendipity trail near Loon Mountain (which took us a little less than a hour)

And walked main street from our hotel checking out some of the little shops and ice cream stands.

It was a perfect area for a weekend getaway!
