Vanilla Mocha Trifle Cake Recipe

My boys and I enjoy trying out new recipes and when it was time to come up with a cake for my mother- in- law's birthday all the knew was that they wanted something with coffee in it.  My mother- in- law loves her coffee.

We searched around a bit and after checking out a few different recipes we decided to make her a mocha flavored trifle cake... In case you don't remember we ended up making her a chocolate mocha trifle cake last year and that was a huge hit!

We figured we'd make a similar cake this year with a few little changes.

We assembled our ingredients and set to work.

Ingredients:

1 8 inch vanilla cake round-- baked and cooled
2 1/2 cups milk
2--  3.4 ounce packages instant vanilla pudding
1/4 cup instant coffee grannules
1-- 16 ounce container Cool Whip; thawed
Heath bars; broken into pieces

In the stand mixer we combined the milk, pudding mixes, and coffee grains. Mixing on medium speed until we had a soft set pudding.

Then we began layering the cake in the trifle dish.  I crumbled 1/2 the cake into the bottom of the dish, topped it with half the pudding mixture, 1/2 the whipped cream, and 1/2 the heath candy bits. Then I repeated the whole thing until my dish was full.

I like to prepare trifle cakes a good 12+ hours before we're going to eat it so that all the flavors have time to combine and the pudding and cool whip soak into the cake a bit.

In this cake the coffee, vanilla, and chocolate candy pieces were just so satisfying!
