Weekly Wrap- Up: The Week With All the Art

We had another great week!  We spent time with friends, went hiking, and even squeezed in a field trip.  Mostly our week was filled with art.  Alec has been coloring up a storm while listening to books on CD in his room and we tried out a few new projects together.

We had plans to meet up with some friends and go hiking in the morning on Friday but I did have enough time to make some homemade strawberry jam and a few bacon, broccoli, and cheese quiches for dinner before we headed out.  We ended up hiking for an hour and a half.  It was beautiful out and it felt so good to be up and moving.  After hiking we dropped Ian off at work and the younger boys and I tackled an art project that Evan has been asking to do again.  Alec also listened to his book on Cd and colored in his room while waiting for the paint to dry between coats.

Ian went to work on Saturday morning and the younger boys and I spent the day inside since it was pretty cool and cloudy and threatening rain.  I managed to get two of the three outfits done that I am decorating with vinyl for my niece's birthday and Alec and I finished watching season two of American Housewife.  Alec also worked on more coloring and listened to even more of his book on Cd.

We went out to breakfast on Sunday and then the younger boys helped clean the car & truck while Ian finally got the jet ski in the water.  Evan had a birthday party go to for one of his friends and we spent the night swimming, eating, and playing games.  His friend has the sweetest family and it was so nice to get to chat with his aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.  Plus his mom did such a fantastic job with the rubber ducky theme!!  We were so full we both decided to skip dinner when we got back home.

Evan's newest trick-- flips off the dock/ground

Aren't these chocolate covered strawberries adorable?  They were so yummy too!

One of the many games they played

These chocolate covered Oreo's were amazing!

Scooping up the pinata goods!

Sitting to watch the rubber ducky race

They had a fan blowing the ducks across the pool using noodles for the race lines.

The birthday boy's grandmother made a super cute fondant robber duck cake (that I didn't get a photo of) but even these
cupcakes made by the mom were pretty darn adorable!

Monday I thought it would be fun to take a trip to the zoo.  It was a bright sunny day but not very hot with temps in the 70's.  Ian didn't want to go so we dropped him of at work and the younger boys and I listened to Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods while Alec did some coloring in the car.  We had a great time at the zoo and even got to feed the giraffes; something I have wanted to do for a long time!

Alec had karate Tuesday morning and the other two boys and I headed to a local park to go for a walk.  We ran into some family members and talked for quite a bit so our walk was cut pretty short but the boys didn't mind at all.  We did check out a new hiking trail and other than all the millions of bugs that were buzzing at our heads it was a pretty nice trail.  After karate and a quick stop at the library we headed home for lunch and got ready for some company.  One of Evan's friends and his mom came over for the afternoon and it was a beautiful day of catching up with old friends we hadn't seen in some time.

Wednesday the boys did a bit of schoolwork and after grocery shopping we decided to try a new Chex mix recipe and make some edible slime.  It meant we all spent a lot of time in the kitchen but it was pretty cloudy and cool out anyway so we didn't mind.  We also began putting together a larger habitat for our tadpoles as front legs are starting to form and they need a place to get up out of the water every now and then.

We woke to rain on Thursday and after completing our schoolwork, preparing food for supper and having fun with a new art project we headed out to turn in the kids Barnes and Noble summer reading sheets.  The younger two boys still qualify for free books and we've learned our lesson the hard way not to actually wait until the end of summer to turn in the sheets.  We then stopped in at Panera Bread for lunch.

Weekly Weight Loss Tracker

Friday-- We hiked for an hour and a half and though the boys stopped for ice cream, burgers, etc. at the roadside stand where Ian was working for the day I waited to eat a salad at home.

Saturday and Sunday-- I didn't do any exercising at all but I did try to eat somewhat healthy.. other than the pizza, cupcakes and sweets at the party.

Monday-- The younger boys and I spent 3 and a half hours walking around the zoo; I didn't do any other exercising but figured it was still more movement then sitting at home and I made sure to pack a light lunch.

Tuesday-- We walked the woods trail and around the track for 30 minutes (total; not each).

Wednesday-- I didn't exercise at all and didn't eat all that healthy either since I got to the grocery store rather late in the day and we had been all out of fruits and veggies.

Thursday-- I finally weighed myself and was so bummed to see that the numbers had not changed from last week; while I'm glad they didn't go up I was hoping to see some sort of movement down.

    1. They are from a book called Mystery Mosaics and I found it on Amazon. There are a whole series of those books so choose from too.

    1. Luckily the spider and snake were actually not that close (I have a pretty good zoom on my camera) and I only took photos because my boys begged me to when they found said creatures. I could have done without seeing them though.
