Wicked Tulip Farm
We just heard about a farm in Rhode Island called the Wicked Tulips Flower Farm that grows fields and fields of tulips and I just knew we had to go check it out. I love tulips and after taking the boys to the sunflower farm several summers in a row I thought this would be another fun trip.
I'll admit that while the tulips were beautiful; they just aren't as impressive as fields of sunflowers; they're low to the ground and with the crowds of people around it's much harder to feel like you're alone in the flowers like you can with the sunflowers.
However, we could not believe the amazing variety of tulips that were all around and spent a good 40 minutes or so walking around trying to find our favorites. They were so pretty and smelled amazing.
They have a show garden; where all the tulips are grouped according to type and they have little name plaques near them. They sell the bulbs so you can buy your favorites and plant them at home.
Alec had a hard time choosing and decided he liked all three of these pink toned ones.
My favorites were the negrita doubles and I just loved the smells of the flowers too. My wedding bouquet was made up of all white tulips and the smell just bring me right back to that special day.
They had a lot of helpful staff walking around, checking people in, selling flowers and bulbs, etc. and we had one lady stop and offer to take our photo after seeing us try and take a selfie.
It was a fun way to spend our morning.

| This was by far the largest tulip I've ever seen; even the leaves were quite large. They're called Giant Orange Sunrise and grow 10-12 " tall with the flower being a good 5" of that. |

They have more rows of mixed tulips called their picking gardens and you can pick tulips for $1 a stem. They look so pretty with the range of colors too; though I am partial to the matching rows of colors in the show garden.
We went back to the show garden and took our picture with our favorites. Evan liked the grand perfection variety.

DeleteSo pretty, I would love to go to a tulip field! I do see what you mean about sunflower fields being different with the flowers so tall though! We have a great sunflower field here!

DeleteWow! They are breath taking! I have never smelled a tulip so now I feel like I need to do that. The variety of colors is amazing! I agree that Sunflower fields are also amazing. I will drive out of my way to see a sunflower field.

DeleteI grew up in Oregon with flower farms close by. I miss that now that I no longer visit. There is something magical about so many flowers are in one place. Looks like you had a fabulous time.

DeleteThese are so beautiful! Array of colours. My sister is named "Tulip" because my mum went to visit a Tulip Farm in Europe when she was pregnant with her. I wish we had a Tulip Farm near by too. x

ReplyDeleteThey all really did! We just learned last night that the owners of the farm are from Holland and got their inspiration from their homeland.
