Favorite Family Recipe-- BBQ Macaroni Salad

Today I am linking up with lots of other great bloggers to bring you our favorite family recipes.  I decided to re- share my Barbecued Macaroni Salad since summer is on it's way and I just can not wait to start grilling and gobbling up all the delicious sides too.  

My Husband Has Too Many Hobbies • Across the Blvd

I love macaroni salads and my husband loves pasta salad so I'm always looking for new recipes to mix things up a bit.  A few years ago I found a recipe for a barbecued macaroni salad in my Cook's Country cookbook. While we have  modified the recipe to suit our tastes and it has become a new family favorite.  

The tang of the barbecue sauce makes this pasta salad the perfect side dish for any summer picnic or barbecue.




Ingredients: 
1 box elbow noodles
2 stalks celery, sliced thin
2 medium carrots, diced
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
sprinkle of cayenne pepper
sprinkle of garlic salt

Directions:

Boil box of pasta according to package directions then drain and rinse with cold water.



In medium bowl mix together celery, carrots, mayonnaise and barbecue sauce.





Add in pasta and mix until well coated.



Sprinkle with cayenne pepper and garlic salt.  (This time I added the pepper and salt before the pasta!)



If the pasta soaks up some of the mayonnaise and barbecue mixture you can always add more just keeping to same ratio (for example if you add 1 tablespoon of mayo add another 1/2 tablespoon of bbq).

Chill and serve.



My family just gobbles it up!

    I have never had BBQ Macaroni Salad, but I bet my family would gobble it up! Especially the kids! I need to try this... it looks so easy and perfect for the hot summer-like weather we've been having!

Dollar Store Candy Cane Wreath

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my boys were youn

 Since the 10th falls on a Sunday this month (and I don't blog on the weekends) I thought I'd share my 10 on the 10th a bit early. I love that it also coincides with Friday Favorites since Marsha's 10 on the 10th is often one of my favorite prompts to answer.  Rather than asking us specific questions this month, Marsha has asked us to share 10 things we like to do or eat in November. I thought I'd actually share 10 of each! Now not everything on my list is something we only like to do or eat in November-- we hike pretty much year round and you better believe that many of our favorite foods are enjoyed throughout the fall/winter season too but I'm sure you won't mind me taking a bit of a creative license with the prompt.  10 Things I like to DO in November: Hiking, of course! Friday Favorites: The Second Week of November

 Look at me participating in an actual Friday Favorites! It's been ages since I've summed up our week this way but we had a pretty good and slightly unusual week that I wanted to document.  Rewinding to last Friday I headed out to brunch with my mom and step-father. We not only had a very delicious meal at Bill's Bread and Breakfast but we had a great time catching up and laughing. While this move and their intro into retirement have been pretty stressful for them they have certainly kept their sense of humor. (Sorry, no photos; we were too busy eating and visiting!) That afternoon Evan asked me if I wanted to go for a hike so we headed to Pulaski. It was a beautiful afternoon and we had a great walk but man, it was definitely NOT a favorite to see just how low the water was in the pond-- even the beaver lodge was completely dry! Typically this entire cove would be under water.  water is usually flowing right under this bridge and over the dam on the other side.  Saturday
