Museum of Springfield History

The same day we toured the Dr. Seuss Museum and sculpture gardens and the Springfield art museums we also walked through the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History.

We had a lot of fun learning all about the history of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Ian has asked to come to his museum to check out the car collection.

They had a whole room dedicated to the products that have been made in Springfield through the years.

By far, my boys' favorite area was the Hasbro game area.  This interactive exhibit was a lot of fun.

The younger boys raced to see who could peddle their machine and get their balls through the obstacles the fastest.

A giant Life spinner.  We had to try and predict what number the spinner would land on.

Balancing on a Pogo ball; I had a real moment of nostalgia when I saw those!

Playing Connect four with light up pegs.

Simon!! I kept trying to explain this game to my boys since their game is not like the one I grew up with but these bongos had the four classic colors, lit up, and played sounds just like I remembered.

Ian's only other request was to see all the Indian motorcycles; he learned a lot about them when watching the mini series Harley and the Davidsons.

They had a small area dedicated to Friendly's ice cream too since it was first started during the height of the great depression right in Springfield.

Just look at that old fashioned ice cream maker!
There was small section of the museum dedicated to planes too and lots of posters talking about Springfield's role in aviation.

    1. We almost didn't bother with this one either but I pushed the boys on and told them they could rest in the car. LOL. We were tired but I was determined to see them all while we were there.

    1. A Pogo ball was an 80's invention. Much like a pogo stick you were meant to jump up and down with it but it was a ball with a plastic base for standing on. It took a lot of balance; something I really was lacking.
