Weekly Wrap- Up: The Week Alec Made All those Pokemon Characters
We ended up losing power again this week but only for a 1/2 day so that wasn't so bad. We did, however, get quite a bit of snow and spent most of our week inside again. I was thrilled to see the boys take the initiative in a bunch of craft- like projects and I read a couple of books; finding lots of time to relax.
The boys and I spent the morning playing board games on Friday. They picked out Apples to Apples, Trivia Crack, and Sorry Sliders and I'm fine with admitting that they kicked my butt in each and every game! We still had a bit of snow around but it was a nice day and we asked some of our friends to meet up with us and go for a walk. We spent our afternoon walking around the river trail and stopping by a few new candy stores. We got some pretty yummy homemade chocolates and fudge at K's Sweet Spot. By dinnertime it was snowing again.
After dinner Ian headed to the woodworking shop and finished up his table for his turtle tank. He brought it home and put it in the basement so he can paint it. He did such a great job and I'm already asking him what his plans are for his next project.
The boys all headed off to work with their father on Saturday and I spent my morning reading up on our state's high school diploma requirements and trying to roughly map our way through the high school years. Once I had a general outline of what we need to cover each year I did spend some time looking through possible curriculum, activities, movies, and games to use for next year.
Ian headed off to work with his father on Sunday. He has been trying to make a mini screening plant and they spent pretty much the whole day at the machine shop. Evan showed me the roller coaster he made in his Minecraft world. Then he modified it to make it even better and showed me again.
The boys and I worked on some crafts on Monday. After their schoolwork was done the younger boys and I made some bunnies using paint, scrapbook paper, and mason jars. Ian worked on painting & urethaning his new bookshelf. Alec pulled out my old computer and the Fimo dough and made a couple of Pokemon characters. Evan and Ian traded Lego pieces and worked on building new things. Ian made a lift for his boat out of Lego and strings. We started watching Dunkirk but after 30 or so minutes we gave up on it. If we hadn't read the book a few years ago we would not have understood anything that was going on in the movie. There was no dialog and we found it a bit hard to follow.
We woke up Tuesday and within moments had lost power (again!). We got the generator, fireplace, and wood stove going (since the generator does not run out heat). The boys settled in to do some schoolwork and using my phone we even managed to make our salt dough United States topographical map. I settled in front of the fire to read a book and Ian headed out to go plowing and shoveling while the younger two boys played video games and enjoyed an afternoon "off." Luckily our power was back on by the afternoon. We measured the snow on our deck at dinner and found that we had well over a foot of snow and it was still falling! The younger two boys headed out for a sleepover and Ian went to bed early since he was getting up early on Wednesday to go plow and shovel some more.
I had the house to myself for a little while on Wednesday morning and while I was not thrilled we had gotten so much snow it really did look so beautiful outside! The boys all arrived home by mid- morning and they helped me clear out the fridge and freezer since our new appliances were being delivered! Once everything was back in our fridge and freezer we settled down to do a little bit of schoolwork. We ran a few errands after lunch and the boys painted their salt dough map. Since it was PI day we made a no-bake chocolate cheesecake pie and some individual pizza pies for dinner.
We didn't have much planned for Thursday. The boys did a bit of schoolwork and we learned about Pablo Picasso. We read a couple of picture books about him, checked out some samples of his work, and read about the different periods of his art. They each tried to create a work of art in his style and then together we watched Newsies. Alec worked on some more clay Pokemon figures while the movie was playing and finished up all of Eevee's evolved forms (except Leafeon since we don't have any light green). We watched some spring ducks out on the lake and held our breath when the bald eagles (two of them!) began circling overhead. Thankfully they left the ducks alone.

Our new stove and fridge match our microwave and dishwasher! It's the first time in a good 14 years that I have matching appliances. |

And I thought we had a lot of snow! Holy cow but love seeing you guys snuggle up by the fireplace. Your new appliances are great and super CUTE Bunny jars! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteYeah it was nuts! I'd bet we had a good 18 inches by the time it was done. Luckily it's been pretty sunny and most of the snow has melted pretty quick. I love snow but really only if it comes in Dec, Jan, or Feb.
DeleteYour boys are really creative! Love the bunnies and the pokemon figures.
ReplyDeleteI love snow only if it's just for a month. I am totally a summer person! And over here on our side of the pond, it's summer all year round.

I like snow around Christmas and I'll tolerate it in Jan. and Feb. but I have definitely been whining that it's practically spring and the snow needs to be gone ASAP! If I could convince my family we'd move south and do away with winter altogether. ;)
DeleteWe studied Picasso this week too. We did a Roll-Art project also...lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike!
DeleteWhat a jam packed week. Love the Pokemon figures and those painted jars :) I need a fridge and cooker like yours ours are so small.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your post with us at Welcome To The Weekend Blog Hop. Have a great week and we hope to see you soon.
Thanks! Alec was hard at work making some more clay figures today. He's really enjoying this new medium and seems to have a knack for it.
DeleteHe's doing some good with those figures. What type of clay is he using that you have all the colours?
ReplyDeleteI want to say it's called FIMO dough; it's a polymer oven baked clay that is most often used for beading.
DeleteWow! What a lovely week you have, apart from the power cut of-course. We also have some snow here yesterday and some today too. But not as much as yours. I do love their bunny bottles, they are so cute! I must get the kids to do some of those too. I'm very impressed with the lego making as well. When we have a house of our own, I'd love to have a matching appliances too. My dream home. :) x
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for linking up with us on #FabFridayPost
Thanks. It was a pretty good week and thankfully most of the snow has melted already.
DeleteOh the snow looks so beautiful! But cold. brrr. Love the contrast of curling up by a cozy fireplace to read - that would be a real highlight!
ReplyDeleteIt does look so pretty! I just loved that the snow clung to the trees for part of the next day as well and every time I looked out the window I thought it was just so breathtaking.
DeleteWonderful photos - those characters are brilliant! We have had more snow in the UK this week too. #FabFridayPost
ReplyDeleteWe're preparing for a storm today; supposed to get another foot tomorrow... I hope they're wrong this time and we just get a few inches. While most of the snow has melted we do have huge plow piles everywhere.
